`NO KILL` CAMPAIGN
The `NO KILL` campaign began in the United States in the 1980s and 90s. Back then, a common way to get dogs and cats was to buy them from a local breeder. Shelter animals were not considered good enough and a suitable option for family pets.
The `No Kill` campaign was developed as a response to this view. A large number of healthy animals were put down in shelters in the United States. The `No Kill` campaign became a movement that called on local communities to do all they could to save all healthy and treatable animals from unnecessary euthanasia.
And it started to work. The national database called Shelter Animals Count began collecting shelter data in 2011. Accordingly, the number of adoptions from shelters quadrupled in the past decade. Adoptions became increasingly popular among the public.
The `NO KILL Hungary` Movement is dedicated to the view that all living animals born into this world, whether formerly owned, abandoned, or never owned, have the right to life.
Mass-killing of animals in the Hungarian killing stations cannot be a solution to the problem of accumulated abandoned animals. They are the victims of irresponsible animal keeping and lack of care and appropriate measures by the local governments. Such anti-humane approach is unacceptable in the 21st century.
Adequate resources should be devoted to prevention, and the money used to kill these animals should be redirected into collaboration and support with animal welfare organisations instead of the currently operating practice.
