Not every dog is great at catching balls especially when you have legs like a supermodels and a neck like a giraffe but it's the having fun that's important! #clumsydog #tayportdogwalker #dundeedogwalker #ridgebacksofinstagram
So you may remember I listed Maddie with a ligament injury at New Year. The one good thing to come from that was because she got regular check ups from the vet on the injury they saw what they'd originally thought was just a fatty lump on her other leg was growing pretty fast. Lump removed and all good now so here she was after weeks and weeks out. Pretty stiff but she'll soon ease off, also i've never seen a dog so happy as when I came to pick her up.
Interesting start to the day it's not often you see fire fighters battling fires in the forest you're walking in. Not sure I had that on my risk assessments. Anyway I'm away for a piss on a tree, anything to help. Cheers to the Tayport and Dundee crews plus whomever's in the whirlymagig for keeping my place of work intact. #Tentsmuir
Pep talk with the last remaining groups before I shoot off on my holidays. I'll reply to any messages when I get back.
For everyone who's feeling down looking out at the miserable weather , here's a throw back to the Halcyon days of last week when it was 28degrees in the shade here and the boys were happy just getting a hose down!
Jax slow mo
Jax is a stunning dog but missing a ball in slow mo makes him look about as graceful as a hippo doing ballet.
Rumble in the Stubble
I always wonder how they decide 'now it's your turn to chase me'?
Sacha and juno
Sacha has joined the gang. She was a rescue at about 18months and like so many rescues is unsure about men. I had the first meeting to make sure she liked me, she took to me straight away so we then did a solo walk to make sure she was happy to go with me and then to ease her into the group she went out with Juno. She's been an absolute star and will soon be off the lead bombing about with her new pals.
New puppy.
Introducing the latest in the class of 2021, (young)Shadow. Like with most puppys of late her young lad wants her out socialising with other dogs as she hasn't had as much as he'd like due to all the restrictions. As to be expected she's still a little nervous with other dogs but was happily sniffing and running in circles with Sydney when she instigates it. Welcome to the gang.
Puppy play date
So after managing to get the van out for the first time since Monday I found I couldn't park at my usual routes as they hadn't been cleared. So for the morning dogs we fell back to plan B which was a playdate in the garden! Left the old boy in the house as he wouldn't have been best pleased with three young guns ruining HIS snow and playing with HIS balls, he spent a good half hour re-scent marking the garden.
Snow dogs.
I'm glad the doggos had fun in the snow on the morning walk when we eventually got over to Tentsmuir because driving on the side roads and many hills of Dundee today was about as much fun as getting a prostate exam from Edward Scissorhands.
Shadows return
So this was a very significant walk today. 4 months ago Shadow developed a slight limp on a walk, I checked his paws, no glass or cuts or any obvious reason atall for it. I filmed him walking to try figure out which paw was causing the limp and to show his mum. He was happy and still wanting to chase the ball but I wasn't so cut walk short to get him back to his mum. Managed to get in the van by himself. Struggled up his steps to his mum and dad and by that night he couldn't move atall. This was a terrifying time for his family and myself my thought was he must have had a stroke. I was wrong, the specialists in Edinburgh discovered a disc in his back had ruptured and leaked out its fluid cutting off the signals down his back. No operation was required but a stay in Edinburgh was followed by months of physio and hydro therapy whilst the swelling went down and he rediscovered the ability to first stand then walk. At one point he even had doggy wheels to support his back legs. His back legs may never be the same again and he likely won't be able to ever sprint after balls which was his signature style just little kicks in front of him but to just have him back out was a miracle. To this day there's no reason for why it happened, no collisions with other dogs or anything just his normal 'Shadowing about' after balls. He managed just over half an hour before he was tired because of the effort on the hard ground but it was a great belated Christmas present from Santa Paws. Great to have you back Shadow.
