Make NYC ACC a no kill shelter Let’s support animal adoptions and fostering while pushing legislature towards all non kill shelters in NYC.

I’m not affiliated with ACC and do not represent their opinions. Let’s show support to those that can’t speak for themselves.

Spring is approaching, and many beaches will begin to close specific sections to protect their inhabitants and migratory bird nesting places. Respect the closures and watch the tiniest of birds take over the beach. Piper plovers chicks are flightless for almost three weeks but love exploring the beach. They face many dangers and are endangered in New York City. For this trip, please always keep your dogs on a leash and do not walk them near the bird breeding sites. We all need to protect our backyard biodiversity, starting with our actions.

Sometimes no words come to mind...you walk...you see...you capture...you wonder... They observe you watching them... Sometimes they hide hoping they blend in, while in fact they stand out. Many make their resence known with loud cries. While others simply float on the water. Some take a nap in the middle of the day. Some always remain alert. Some hide among branches. While others like to stand out. Some watch the horizon. All wish this place will be there tomorrow.

Sometimes no words come to mind…you walk…you see…you capture…you wonder… They observe you watching them… Sometimes they hide hoping they blend in, while in fact …

Last winter, I took a walk by the Jamaica Bay Refuge Center. I did not expect to see any birds there, but to my surprise, there were dozens. The freezing water of Jamaica Bay was filled with grey-looking birds. At first, I thought I was looking at flocks of ducks, but they did not look like ducks. Their grey bodies, black heads, and white beaks seemed surreal....

Bradley and Cooper as kittens. It has been six months since I had to say goodbye to Bradley. I still feel the pain. I tried to write about him many times, but every time a thought would enter my head, my brain would shut down. It still does. Bradley and Cooper. Grief is painful. Bradley was my cat, a black tuxedo I adopted from the ASPCA in 2015 while I was in graduate school....

These are the cats that are on NYC ACC's "Emergency Cat Placement List"

If not placed, it is highly likely the cats will be killed.

Emergency placement animals are posted three times a week, on the evenings of Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:00PM and remain viewable for 42 hours.

For more information and for more details on the cats listed, please visit
https://newhope.shelterbuddy.com/Animal/List

Status updates for previous emergency placement cats can be found here - https://www.nycacc.org/EmergencyPlacementOutcomes

Pledging - Rescues depend on donations to help animals in their care with medical and behavioral issues so your dollars support their ability to help ACC animals every day.
Pledges are a promise that you will donate that amount if a cat is saved. You make a comment with your amount pledged - such as "$5" - and take note of the animal's location, A #, Kill list date (if there is one), and what you pledged.
Then, if we receive any information from an approved rescue group that they have "pulled" (rescued) the cat from the ACC, we will post an update, along with a donation link, to fulfill your pledge

Behavior

KNOWN HISTORY:
Indoor cat
Previously lived with: Adults, children, cat

Behavior toward strangers: shy for a few minutes, plays gently
Behavior toward children: relaxed or affectionate with children ages 5 and 7. Plays gently.
Behavior toward cats: fearful, very territorial and would swat or bite if the cat got close. Doesn't play.
Behavior toward dogs: Unknown
Bite or Scratch history: Chiba bit other cat on 6/10/22 but it did not draw blood.
Litter box training: He is litterbox trained and uses both hooded and uncovered boxes with clumping litter. Recently, Chiba has daily litterbox accidents that consist of both pooping and peeing outside of box. This has been ongoing for 1 to 6 months and they believe the trigger is them moving to a new apartment and the cat not adjusting with other cat in the home.
Energy level/descriptors: Low, Chiba is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, independent and quiet. He loves sitting with people and being petted. When you're home, he tends to be in his favorite spot. His favorite toys are laser pointers.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Chiba is a shy, calm, and sweet senior gentleman whose behavior has been consistent since his initial evaluation. He was hiding in the den lying down with his head and ears forward, focused on the assessor through the vent holes. The assessor slowly approaches with treats on the scratcher tool and he initially hisses, a little startled when treats were placed in front of him. He sniffs treats and allows gentle petting on his head and cheek. He remains calm when stroking his body. The assessor applies gentle upward pressure on his sides to lift him up and he tenses up when held briefly. After placing him back down, he continues to tolerate more petting and attention.
Chiba tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.

Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!
I have been known to shower my favorite people in love!
I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.
I am looking for a home with a patient person.
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.
