Hi all. I have been pondering the best way to run this page, and how to create a disabled pet sitting network? I think in hindsight, many professional pet sitters will not want the extra burden as they see it of a pet with special needs, incontinent, wheel user etc, may not have the confidence or time, or inclination to take on special clients when they are busy with their "normal" clients. Most home boarders i know would not take on an incontinent dog for example.
I am thinking the best way forward to create a useful and professional network of specialised dog carers may be to involve
existing owners/pawrents of disabled pets who are not professional pet sitters (yet!) but have relevant experience, enthusiasm and understanding, and that may have an interest in looking after other disabled pets. There may be many people out there very interested in doing some part-time pet sitting, extra income doing needed care, giving owners a much needed break.
Pet sitting for money has its legalities etc. I am considering running a training course for any "non professional but very able" owners/mums/dads who are interested which could cover subjects like:
Legalities of pet sitting
How to obtain a boarding licence if required.
Basic first aid
Disabled dog care
Any thoughts?
