It's a terrible picture...they are quite shy and picked a rather dark part of the tank...but my own created strain of long finned rams are actively spawning πππ

It is official...we will be at the April 18th swap meet! We will be offering a sweet little deal for all live good pre-orders.
Here's the deal...no minimum purchase required...place your order no later than Saturday April 17th 8pm CST...per customer that is pre-paid and to be picked up at the swap you will get a choice of free portion of guppy grass (may contain snails) or 2 free mystery snails (color/size not guaranteed). Order 1 fish or 10, the deal is the same. Offer is only for fish orders...fish and freebies are extremely limited. Fish available are: 2 unsexed juvenile Bolivian rams, 2 unsexed (likely female) Apistogramma cacatuoides, multiple 1 yr old emerald cory cats (all fish have been hatched/raised locally by me!).

Let's talk aquarium tools! βοΈπ§π
This is my collection of tools that I regularly use outside the usual bucket/syphon/net. I like to repurpose normal kitchen items for this hobby. In my collection you will find extra long scissors and tweezers...a toothbrush...1 single chopstick (2nd pic)...bottle brushes...turkey baster...drink stirrers. I also use various clamps...clothespins...typical aquascaping tools...medical syringes and pippettes... and various small containers.
This hobby is only as expensive as you make it...so do yourself a favor and see if there are various kitchen tools that you might be able to repurpose. That way you have more money for fish! πππ
Note: once something gets used in the fish room it doesn't ever get used again in the kitchen...so no need to worry if you ever come over for dinner! 1πππ

Meet the most elusive fish I've ever had. Was cleaning out some duckweed from the top of the tank and guess who is sitting on some eggs!!! This guy has Sasquatch-like skills at hiding...so what a joyful surprise it was to find him guarding a clutch of eggs. I've been anxiously waiting for this! I *think* this little tiny female is his mate...she's about 1/3 his size and also the smallest fish in the tank. πβ€πΆ

Meet the biggest of my current Ram fry...3 to 4 months old and about the size of a lima bean. Probably a male...best guess would be a long finned electric blue but honestly I have no idea. Either way this one will be a looker!

Got some new Ram lines that I will be working with over the winter...Bolivian and Dark Knight! Bolivian rams started spawning a few weeks ago. I got impatient with them trying to perfect their parenting skills and pulled the 3rd spawn recently...they are currently in the wiggler stage as of today. Dark Knights are still on the younger side yet but are starting to show some mating behaviors...so fingers crossed!

Hey friends...just a quick note. Live goods are running very low. Combined with the cooler temps we are taking this opportunity to work on building up our stock again. Plants are still available per the current stock list post. Artwork will be going up for sale soon. We do plan on attending the Nov 8th Milwaukee Aquarium Society swap meet...10 to 2 pm. A little over a week ago I posted about something ripping thru my tank and taking my most prized breeders. I'm sad to report that I've lost all but 1 golden long finned ram. She is looking healthy thankfully. I did manage to secure some of the various offspring from those that I lost but they are still quite young. So for everyone that is on the ram waiting lists I am guessing that the best case scenario is that it will be likely 1 year before I have anything ready. It breaks my heart to share bad news...fish are supposed to be the fun side of life. While that tank is recovering [nothing will be added or sold from it except plants] I will be working on a few new breeding lines in other various tanks. Recently picked up some new beauties that I am excited about having in house. Once they are settled in I will be sharing pics.
Keep your water balanced and fish on!

Something is ripping thru this tank...and unfortunately it is taking most of my prized breeders with it. Water parameters are where they need to be...tank is understocked... and yet something is wrong. For me this is when this hobby is the most frustrating. You can do everything right and s**t still happens and you start doubting. Playing the what if game. I don't know how many will survive. Patience is the key.

Set up the apistogramma cacatuoides official nursery today. Don't worry, mom (the yellow fish) didn't eat the babies...she was moving them around. It is just her and the babies and some snails in the tank...low stress environment for mom! πβ€πΌ

Thinking about starting a tank and not sure where to begin? The Petco sale going on now is a great place to start! I have more than a few of these tanks and a couple of the filters...never had any problems with either. This sale runs fairly often so if now isn't a good time for you don't fret!

I'm a big fan of net breeder boxes...the finer the mesh the better! Stuffing them full of low light requirement plants is a great way to help fry feel more secure and plays to their natural hiding instinct. The plants will help hold food particles for grazing. Throw a snail in there for cleanup and you've got yourself a great long term solution for growing out fry! I add in an air stone to help with water movement and bubbles are fun! π‘πΏπ

Friends and visitors - due to multiple requests we are going to open up shipping again on a case by case basis. Generally speaking if the temps in your area are 85 or over I am going to recommend holding off on shipping OR strongly urge 1 day/overnight shipping. Our DOA policy only applies to 1 day/overnight shipping. Plants and dry goods are still shipping. Please feel fee to reach out with any questions.

Quick update for those on the various Rams waiting lists...over the past 2 or 3 days we have had spawns from the German blue and Golden standard fin lengths AND long finned Golden AND a long finned golden/long finned electric blue mix [excited to see what comes of this mix!]. 4 spawns at once is the largest we have ever had!

Giving some serious thought to expanding our operations a bit. I am completely grateful for our customers and their business. We continue to sell out of fish and it kills me that I can't keep up with the demand! The world needs these fish!
