As much as we love getting to know all the pups that come through our doors, as an open-admission shelter, we must get them into adoptive homes quickly, so there is always room for the next one who needs our help.

Some take a little longer than others, depending on their needs, but as long as our community continues to show up ready to adopt a new best friend, we can keep helping those extra needs dogs meet their ideal families too.

The dogs on this list are easygoing about new adventures, meeting people, and living with other pets. If your family cannot adopt an extra needs dog, please know that adopting these dogs helps us focus our resources on them. Adopting these dogs helps to save lives.

Does anyone still read newspapers?! 📰 We have about 40 small pets that would love to have them if you're done—they really like the funny pages.

Actually, we use newspaper in all the bunny, guinea pig, rat, and parakeet cages so we've completely run out! If you're able to drop some off, we would be super grateful.

We're at 120 N County Farm Rd in Wheaton. Business hours vary through the week, but as long as the weather is good, you can leave your gift at our main door outside of regular hours too. Thanks, friends!

Butt seriously, this is a reeeeeeally great event for the whole fam to learn about rabbits as pets and meet all of our adoptable bunnies — who are usually chillin' in foster homes — all in one place.

Our buns are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and RHDV2 vaccinated, so they're ready to go if you fall in love.

I never realized how much hay this little punk eats until it became a life safety risk to go buy hay!

Be safe and well, bunny friends!

While I still have you....
As much as I enjoyed the accolades and attention for helping Hobo, all I really did was pick her up, feed her, and get her home. Simple, easy gestures that anyone could and would do if presented with the opportunity.
Meanwhile, as we all see daily on our social feeds, there are true animal heroes and saviors doing immensely hard work rescuing, fostering, and nursing to health the countless scores of castaway pets that our society generates.
PLEASE give something. Even $5 a year. Drop it off at a local vet and ask them to give it to their favorite rescue. I promise, it’ll feel great!

Fare thee well, Hobo!
(AKA “Ruby” because he’s a she)
The claimants arrived on time for the vet appointment. I saw the doctor separately and had a full work up done. The rabbit was in overall good health, with the exception of the ear mites.
Her potential family stayed patiently for the full hour and a half, often excluded in the waiting area while the staff and I tended to her medical care.
In the end, they accepted the burden of the month long recovery protocol, paid for the $80 vet bill, and I allowed them to take her home.

It’s clear that they don’t treat their bunnies as well as we treat ours, and there’s perhaps some small chance that I’ve given this precious little soul over to a murderous hoard of bunny terrorists, but I couldn’t find any real reason that this bunny shouldn’t go home with them. Hopefully I’ve made the right decision.

Great News!! I think.......đŸ€”
While Hobo continues to settle in, I’ve been contacted by a person who lives 3 miles away from where we found him/her. They claim to have lost a bunny just like Hobo 2 weeks ago. They sent a couple pictures. Could be the same rabbit. Can’t be certain.
They have agreed to meet me at the vet tomorrow, so I’m feeling that if they’re willing to shell out for the vet bills and nurse this critter back to health, then this would be a good outcome.
Thoughts?

Hobo was found the morning of 2/18/20 in the parking lot of Edward-Elmhust Immediate Care in Oswego Illinois.
He was found in overall good condition, but shows signs of neglect such as a raging ear mite infection.
We will be working to make Hobo’s life a happy one by getting him/her vet care and finding a good home.
