I drove all the way to Canada to see and hunt with Astor before the breeding. Vito bought him from Germany and has spent many hours with him in the field. He is incredible! The perfect disposition at home, and an aggressive, majestic, hard hunting beast in the field. I took video of a 150-yard blind water retrieve (see posts below). Vito will answer any questions.

Pleased to have Astor vom Barlager Forst sure our B litter!

Astor is a german Import of a medium large size. He is an outstanding young hunting dog with a lot of drive and desire. In the field he covers a lot of ground methodically and quickly with the purpose to find game. He has a natural quartering pattern with an excellent pointing instinct and impressive style. He is a natural retriever whether on land or in water. His water work is exceptional and methodical. Astor is a passionate duck searcher that never quits. He is an elegant looking dog with a good confirmation. He is very friendly and gets along with other dogs – both males and females. He is a good family dog and loves to be around children. Even though in the field he is a fast moving hunting machine, in the house he is a perfect gentleman – polite, quiet, and calm."

Puppies are here!!! 3 males (2 black, one liver) 5 females (one black, one liver, three brown and white (which will tick out). All were born within three ounces if each other, and are gaining weight. They will be pretty for sure, but wait until you get them in the filed. I have 6 deposits (4 females and 2 males). Please call me at 801 8799 6655 for more. For those how are interested, here are the scores for testing both Adele (Piper) and Prinz. Yes, knowing German helps

Prinz: D1, D1 (Suche 4h), S1 (Nase 4h, StmE 4h), VGP1 (336 Punkte, StmE 4h, StoE 4h, Vorstehen 4h, sichtl.) HN VBR BTR Zuchtschau: V1, Stockmaß: 65 cm, HD. B1, OCD frei, Übergangswirbel: frei

For Piper, I will put a little more information here for those who are new to the DK testing system. Dogs are scored 1-4; 4 being the best. Some dogs get a 4H which means they were rarely exceptional at that particular skill. Look at the 4H scores for Prinz. He is a stud (ya I know that was a bad joke).

Adele (Piper): Derby (spring test): Prize 1 (Nose 4, Search 4, pointing 4H (have you seen the videos on this page???), Cooperation 4, Obedience 4, desire 4. Essentially, she did as goos as you can do.

AZP (Breeding test): Prize 3: Nose 4, Search 4, Pointing 4, blind retrieve 2, search with duck in heavy cover 4, search behind live duck 4, rabbit drag 4, manner of retrieving 3 (both live duck and rabbit), cooperation 4, obedience 4, desire 4. If you are wondering about the 2 on blind retrieve, I had to throw a rock...there was a-lot of pheasant scent in the area and I think she thought we were hunting ring-necks.

DK's go through an intense training regiment which includes tracking a rabbit for 450 yards, then bringing it back to its owner, and presenting it...incredible.

I would like to introduce you to an incredible breed of hunting dog. The Deutsch Kurzar ("German shorthair", but often called "DKs") is related to its smaller American version, however, this particular breed has been engineered for versatility. They are excellent swimmers, retrievers, pointers, and bloodhounds. They are about 25% larger than the American version (for hunting large game such as foxes), known for great temperaments, and are easy to train. I have had AKC shorthairs 40 years. I will never go back. Tyler Smith introduced me to this great breed. Thank you Tyler.
