We’re set and ready for Mr. Critters Reptile Expo in Gillette, WY we’re here 10-6 today!
Just a little bit of some of the new things I’ve been working on other than making snake babies

Frosty morning with the feathered reptiles!
After relatively settling into the new enclosures, this is a good example of some of the behavior exhibited by the Russian/Amur rats. They traverse the entirety of the enclosure but spend a lot of the time perched or partially under the hides beneath the low output LED UVA/UVB bulbs with just a coil or two exposed to it at all different times of the day and at night with daytime temps up to 70 and night drops to 58 for this time of year.
We’re out here at the Show Me Reptile show in Loveland this weekend with tons of great animals and treats! Come say hi, get your sugar fix and take home a new noodle!
Little preview of tomorrow’s video. Who can guess what species of snake this is? Scout McDougall Braden you don’t count on this one.
Made a quick stop to deliver some things to Colorado Gators. Always busy taking care of animals, building the new reptile house and still running a tilapia farm made a quick little distraction to show some amazing turtles. Mata Mata Turtles are South American fresh water turtles that have a unique appearance to camouflage from their prey and while they don’t have teeth they actually suck it fish and mollusks like little smiling Hoover vacuums.
Little viridis getting some evening sun before going off to hunt some kangaroo rats
In case you were wondering this is why the more than 250 species of Pepsis wasps are called tarantula hawks. Adult female wasps will sting a tarantula paralyzing it, and dragging it back to a burrow to lay single egg on them. Funnily enough adult wasps don’t eat the spider and you would be surprised at what they do eat. They are one of the largest species of parasitic wasps and while not aggressive or territorial they have one of the most painful stings in the world with one researcher quoting “immediate, excruciating unrelenting pain that simply shuts down one’s ability to do anything but scream”
This was one of dozens of wasps dragging spiders that we saw on our recent herping trip, which is early for the male breeding season so I assume they were taking advantage of the younger males as all the tarantulas were smaller. For a more in depth look at these really cool insects check the link⬇️
