Emmi has been working hard with her training. She’s is working really hard at keeping her focus on Bethany and not get distracted. Emmi was tuckered out today after an hour.

If you see these two around town, know they are working hard.

Today Emmi started training to nudge Bethany! This will be how Emmi will alert Beth. She had a good time getting many treats and she did very well. We did learn that she is still a little young to start her training but she has caught on to her other commands so well that we thought we might start early on sent training!

Today I got to watch my Bethany do her thing! She was at the Freshman State Track Meet. She rocked it and got 1st in discus and 2nd in shot with a PR of over a foot! I am so proud of her and I kept my eye on her all day!

Emmi Got to watch her Bethy at the Regional track meet last night. Bethany is moving on to sectionals in both shot and discus! She placed 2nd in shot and 3rd in discus.

Stuck inside with all this crazy wind today. They both have cabin fever!

So…. Emmi had to get a hair cut today as she wasn’t sleeping at night because she was too hot and kept waking Bethany up. Here are there before, during, and after pics. We did have a mini Lion running around for awhile. She doesn’t even look like the same dog!
She hated the clippers especially by her head but didn’t mind the scissors.

Emmi had a big day today as she had her first experience at a volleyball tournament. She was asked to do “Pet the Puppy” fundraiser we’re she was raising money for a former JAG player who has sinus cancer and is going through chemo. Emmi raised over $80! She did amazing! She stayed on her table and loved all of the attention! We made sure to have her vest off when people pet her and they knew she couldn’t be pet when it was on.
Emmi also experienced the gym part and did fabulous! She kept a paw on her blanket at all times and mainly lay down. She loved watching Bethany and got excited when we would walk in the gym and she would find her. Lots of times as Beth was playing, Emmi would look at her and keep sniffing. Hopefully she will be alerting Bethany some day when she is on the court as Beth does not where her pump during games, she is always diving for the ball. It looks like Emmi will have many more volleyball tournaments in her future.

Emmi had a very big day today and she knocked it out of the park!! She went to her first endo apt with Bethany and did so well! The only time she got excited was when a little boy walked by and she wanted to play with him.
Then we went to Costco where she did super walking with the big carts. There where lots of people who wanted to pet her. Most respected her service dog in training vest but a few had to touch her. She handled it all with grace!
We ended the day eating at Olive Garden where Emmi decided a nap would be a good thing.
Bethany and I couldn’t be more proud of her!

My first run in with burrs! I was hunting with Onyx by the woods pile. Mom picked off over 50 burrs. Good thing they weren’t tangled in my fur too bad.

Emmi has discovered windows! She now knows she can see out of them while in the car and in the house. If you notice she even uses Maybell as a booster seat. She will sit on top of the couch like our other peers and look outside. She is also learning the phrases “we are home” and “who is here.”

School has been canceled for the next five days so Bethany has some extra training time. Today they are working on walking on a leash 😊.

My big sister Maybell is getting used to me and seems to accept that I am here for the long haul. She no longer takes me into the woods and tries to get me lost. Good thing I’m a pretty fast runner and can keep up with her. She’s even been letting me sleep in her bed with her and we play tug-of-war with our toys. Mom will post a video in the comments.

I’m still working on the command stay. I do it best for Bethany but I can get easily distracted yet, after all I’m still a puppy!

We have had Emmi for three weeks now. In that time, she has learned to sit, lay down, and give paw which is very important for alerting Bethany. We are now working on stay.
Emmi also come when you call her name even when she is outside.

A part of Emmi’s training is to take her into public places to get used to all the noise and people. This was her second trip to Menards. After 15 min she decided she should take a nap.

Emmi was a Christmas gift for our 14-year-old daughter who is Type 1. Emmi will be trained to be her diabetic service dog to help alert Bethany when her sugars fluctuate, especially at night. Here is a video of when we surprised Bethany with her a couple of days early. My son was so excited for Bethany to see Emmi that he kept trying to get her to turn around.
