Amazing commitment. So admirable and inspiring. Thank you for sharing Robin Greenfield
This is my complete wardrobe, 19 items.
All Natural fibers
All Naturally dyed
All Homemade
The fibers are wool, linen, cotton and deer skin.
The clothes were naturally dyed with black walnut, indigo, weld and turmeric.
Sewed with cotton thread and deer sinew and buttons made from the branch of an avocado tree.
There is absolutely no plastic (nylon, polyester, etc.), elastic, metal or rubber.
I have no pockets. That’s the way I like it.
These clothes are 100% biodegradable and will do no harm in returning to Earth. Their return will be no different than a leaf falling from a tree or an animal falling to the ground. This is how I intend to return in these clothes as well.
My shoes are felted wool boots. My moccasins are deer skin with deer sinew - Ojibwe puckered toe style – with gratitude to the Anishinaabe people. I am barefoot most of the time, but these will keep my feet warm on colder days and protected when needed, while remaining connected with Earth.
My hat, neck cowl, socks and mittens were hand knitted by Dear Friends. I will become a proficient knitter in the future.
The shirts, pants, shorts, bag, long underwear, socks and shawl were sewn with an electric sewing machine, some by me and some by an apprentice.
Although I have liberated myself from brands, logos, fast-fashion, toxic dyes and plastics in the clothes I wear, I desire to connect to the source of my clothes more deeply.
The cotton, linen and wool long underwear were produced with organic and relatively sustainable farming practices, but involved large machinery and industry. I used mordants in the dying process that were involved in industry. I used items that my friends and I know how to source naturally and locally.
The journey continues and will deepen...
The Earth can provide us with EVERYTHING we need.
I have dedicated my life to making this universal truth, MY truth.
Because to experience something, is to truly know it...
These clothes are one step forward in ascending the delusion of separateness with Earth.
One step forward in being a living embodiment of a Dear Friend of Earth and all our fellow creatures.
