Extra Life Cat Rescue I am located in North Vernon, Indiana where I rescue kitties. Extra Life was created from the passing of my grandmother, Hazel Wainscott.

When her husband, Mike Wainscott, passed just two years ago she took in a mom cat and her kittens. They were a much needed comfort to her and brought her endless joy. Her babies are now two years old and looking for forever homes. I also took in two litters of kittens that were born around her house who will also need homes as I knew she wouldn't have wanted them to be left behind.

You are probably wondering why I share Tiger so often. He is a special case. He was part of our first group of cats (mother and three babies) to come to us. We got to watch him and his siblings grow and now his mom, sister and brother have all been adopted, but he is still waiting.

It breaks my heart that he hasn't gotten much interest. He is the sweetest boy. He does enjoy other cats, but he would need to be with another cat/cats who won't let him and push them around. He tries to throw a fit and can get pretty rough and, due to his size, he can really knock the wind out of a smaller cat. He needs someone who will work with him to get the exercise he needs to slim down.

He loves car rides so put a harness on him and take him for a ride around town! People love seeing him when we stop for fast food. He isn't needy for affection, but lives to relax with his human(s) and get pets. If anything he will try to get you to play with him if there aren't other cats. He might also do well with a gentle dog!

If you are interested in inviting Tiger into your heart and home, please message us. ❤️

Happy adoption day, Cassie!! This has been a long time coming for this girl! I am so proud of her. She was always the brave one of her siblings even though she was scared and had never been around people before. 🥰 Now, she is in the most loving home with two wonderful people and I could not be more happy for her!

It’s a story all too familiar to any rescue: a person died, and their family is desperately trying to rehome their cats. They don’t know who the vet is or if the cat is fixed; no info on where the cat was adopted from. They need the cat gone now.

We heard it all so many times, there’s a meme circulating: keep your loved one’s pets! This is what they would want you to do! And we get it, and yet it’s a huge ask of the family. A huge ask best done BEFORE death. So we are here to say: if you have pets, make arrangements for them. Even if you are not yet middle-aged, but especially if you are (or older!) Even if you think your family will step up.

Make arrangements now. If you love them, it is your responsibility to make sure they don’t end up in the shelter or in the streets. Don’t assume family will keep them — ask them now. Make sure they have a plan beyond “sure, we’ll take Fluffy.” Then, put it in your will.

If you don’t have a willing family member, ask friends. Reach out to animal lovers in your area. Ask rescues if they make pre-arrangements. If you have the means to, designate some money towards Fluffy’s care by whoever takes them. Put that in your will too.

Prepare the paperwork. Was Fluffy adopted and should be returned to the original rescue? Print out the adoption contract. If you haven’t saved the contract, write down rescue’s contact information and put it with your important papers — deed to your home, apartment lease, car title, that sort of thing. To that, add the contact info for your veterinarian, printed vet records, test results, and rabies certificate. If your pet has any medical concerns or needs medication, include it — all of this is vital. If you keep everything in electronic form (most of us do) make a folder dedicated to your pets and keep all records there as well.

When anything happens to us, it is hard enough for our loved ones to sort through everything and make so many difficult decisions. Adding a living thing to the mix makes it so much more stressful for everyone. Make it easier for your human and animal family — don’t leave it up to chance!

Meet Sheba!
Sheba has been with us for a year now. We hadn't spotlighted her much because she was one of the more feral of the kitties we took in and it took time to work with her and get her to a place where we felt she would do well in a forever home. She has very good litterbox habits, loves to play (I've caught her playing by herself mostly and it's soooo cute), and loves pets. She needs a home that is quiet and with someone who will understand that she is very skittish and will take a lot of time to warm up to them. I do not recommend a home with young kids because of how skittish she is. She is very much worth it. ❤️ Sheba is a year and a half old and spayed. She does well with cats, we don't know about dogs.

If you are interested in meeting her, please message the page!

Tiger came to us as a 4 week old kitten in May of 2022. He was adopted for a few months before he was returned to us. He is the sweetest boy ever and very playful, but is too rough with other cats. He does well with our husky! He also LOVES car rides! If you are interested in Tiger, please message the page and we can set up a time for you to come meet him!

The Extra Life Cat Rescue was created because of a promise I made to my grandmother before she passed. She took care of several stray cats around her house as well as several in her own household. These cats ultimately provided her comfort in the time she was grieving the loss of my grandfather in 2020. At the tail end of 2021 she was diagnosed with cancer. We lost her in May of 2022. She asked me to take care of her cats and find them good homes, but if you know my grandma you know her heart was with all of the cats she fed and not just the ones in her house. Since the rescue's inception we have taken in my grandmother's 15 and 5 additional strays in North Vernon. We have placed 6 cats in loving forever homes.

You may have noticed that for the last several months, there has been a lack of posting on the page. This is because of a few reasons. My baby, Casper, of 13 years developed kidney disease and I wanted all of my attention and focus to be on him. I had also started a new job shortly after he passed. By this time I was struggling pretty heavily with the loss of my grandmother and Casper. Two very big parts of my life. And, in typical like grandmother-like-grand-daughter fashion, the cats brought me comfort. It also brought a new thought that I wasn't going to adopt out my grandmother's household cats. My partner and I agreed that we would keep them as I just couldn't part with the babies that brought her comfort during her biggest struggles and, now, mine. And who says 10 cats is too many? Don't tell Tim I said that. lol

So, here we are. In January of 2024. My selfishness has had to come to an end and I need to get the rest of these babies into good, loving homes. Please stay tuned and share my page with your friends. It's the biggest thing that has helped me get the 6 adopted out so far and I am going to need all the help I can get as I try harder than ever to get the remaining kitties into their forever homes.

One of our previous adopters came to us asking us to share these two lovely kitties. Their owner is no longer wanting them and is trying to get them a new home. They will come with a self cleaning litterbox and tower. I don't know a lot of details, but I can ask if you have any questions.

Are you looking to add a sweet, orange tabby to your family? This adorable guy showed up at one of our follower's houses looking for a safe place. He looks to be about a year old and will be going to the vet for a checkup on Monday and will be getting neutered in a week or two. He is currently outside at her house, but will need to find a home soon as he can't stay with her. Any help at all is so much appreciated! Please share far and wide!
