CSA is a relationship between a farm and community members. It gives you direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown by a local farmer. Mustard Seed CSA members pay within a suggested price range for 20 weeks of produce starting in June and continuing through October. Each week’s bag of produce will contain a diversity of seasonal crops (7-12 items), a balanced assortment of greens, root cr

ops, summer vegetables, and herbs which feeds two to four adults for a week, depending on cooking habits. We believe in everyone’s right to have access to nourishing food. Mustard Seed Farm is committed to producing good food for all, regardless of income. Letting members pay what they can for the same share is one way we do that. We trust you, the member, to self-select what you can pay for the CSA share. Some pay more allowing others to pay less which means the farm can continue running while getting food to the widest membership. Contact us for more payment options, short-season shares at a pro-rated price, or to coordinate payment with EBT. We will not deny anyone food because of financial circumstances. [email protected]

When I saw this frigid cold weather coming a week ago I started harvesting EVERYTHING that was left growing in the field and got it into the walk-in cooler. It's amazing how much food can keep growing through the winter months here in Ohio, but a full week below freezing definitely puts an end to that growth!

We'll be distributing our last winter CSA share this Thursday JAN 18 in Norwood from 3pm - 4pm. You can still sign up here! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdpHhXt0mP5xH_ouCOoc4T66HTXBksnSGQ_FelWwNh9eCnSdg/viewform

Did you know winter hardy vegetables convert starches into sugar as the temperatures drop? This is the sweetest time of year for carrots, beets, kale, broccoli, etc.

The higher sugar content in the cells of the plant help it withstand temperatures below 32 F without the cell walls bursting. And it just so happens that makes them extra tasty this time of year.

You can sign up for our winter CSA farm share at the link in our bio! We'll have lots of roots, greens, salad mix as well as some other surprises available for home delivery or pickup in Norwood on Monday December 18th.

Take a peek into what our CSA pickup looks like on a Friday evening in Norwood. We have such amazing CSA members! It's been wonderful getting to know each of them a little bit as the weeks go by. I love hearing all the creative ways folks use our vegetables and I've definitely learned some handy cooking tips from ingenious home cooks.
I know it's just food, but there's something about seeing our farm community each week that inspires me. The fact that this community meets each other's needs through the pay as you can model, gives me hope that mutual aid can show up in other areas of life in the future. I'm grateful that our CSA community supports Lindsey and me to steward little corners of Ohio River valley soil well and to bring them the freshest nutrient rich food that the land provides.

Hey! We were interviewed on Growing Good podcast! This is such an awesome podcast by Lisa Munniksma. Definitely listen to her interview with me and But also check out her other episodes.
Lisa interviews a lot of growers who do incredible work in their communities, and who aren't always well represented among farmer influencers on YouTube, or those selling a course, or a speaking tour ;) Exactly the perspectives I love to look to while harvesting with my earbuds in.

Potato harvest feels like an easter egg hunt. When all the tops of the potato plants died back, I mowed the whole patch and then pulled a trench over each row of potatoes helped me plant back in April. It's always exciting to see how much good food is produced hidden away underground.
This year purple Viking potatoes seemed to do better than the Nikola yellow potatoes, but both are delicious!

Looking forward to sharing these "red head" radishes with CSA Farm Share members starting in June! Radishes are so easy to grow, and interplanting them with other crops works really well. There are so many different colors, sizes, and shapes of radishes beyond what you see in the grocery store.
Though they are easy to grow, I try not to overwhelm CSA members with too many. One way I like to use up a bunch of radishes is to make refrigerator pickles with them. Slice them in a good processor, then pack them in brine in mason jars that go right into the fridge. Pickled radishes are so good on tacos!
