Congratulations to our newest graduates - Murphy & Riley - who finished up their Advanced Obedience High Distraction training package this past week. The live in a home with their owner and her daughters and family in Springfield, NE. Their owner was having problems walking both dogs on leash at once, excitement and barking at the front door and more, and general obedience issues.

We are pleased to report that they are now quieter, calmer pack members that understand rules, boundaries and limits - they are experts now at thresholds and no longer rush past any humans to get out the doors first. Everyone in the home was on board with the training and played a part - even the granddaughters ages 2 and 7. By balancing their exercise, discipline and affection, they have transformed into calmer more obedient pack members. They are great at PLACE and now can often be found just chilling on their beds in the sunroom. Squirrels are still a challenge that they want to bark and chase, however, their behavior is vastly different now. On their final lesson, we took a trip to the nearby park, and they did some long leash walking and command work with squirrels running around nearby. Their owners can now walk them together on leash or separate and they are more engaged followers. They are continuing to do more work under greater distraction - yard and neighborhood but are well on their way to being those calm, confident, obedient pack members their owners envisioned.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha alumni family - Murphy and Riley! We look forward to staying in touch and keeping up with your progress. Once and AFDT client, forever family!

Congratulations to our newest graduates - Nala and Jax who completed their Advanced Obedience Puppy training this past week! They are 8-month-old Puggles and had started to develop some littermate syndrome tendencies. as well as some barking/excitement issues, potty training issues, and they had trouble walking at the same time on leash together.

We are happy to report that they now can walk with dropped leashes alongside each other and follow their owners and commands. The barking in their kennels and when people come over has vastly improved and they are developing nicely into the calm, confident, obedient pack members their owners desired. They now have more structure and boundaries in their daily routine and are enhancing their obedience skills more and more every day.

A lot of hard work has gone into transforming their owners into calm, confident pack leaders that they needed to really thrive. A lot of hard work and consistency from their owners has happened to help Jax and Nala become the calm, confident pack members they envisioned when they added them to their pack.

We are proud of all of you and look forward to staying in touch. Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha alumni family, Jax & Nala!

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Lila! She is a 3-year-old Labradoodle who began her Advanced Obedience training this past week. Her owners reached out to us as they were having some increasing problems with her resource guarding food, excitement issues, coming when called and wanted to improve her overall general obedience.

The Labradoodle is a popular and affectionate designer dog breed that was originally created by crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Standard or Miniature Poodle. Known for their friendly and gentle disposition, Labradoodles have become a beloved choice for families and individuals seeking a loyal and intelligent companion. One of their key attractions is their hypoallergenic coat, which can come in various textures, including curly, wavy, or straight, making them a suitable option for those with allergies. This breed’s coat can range in color, often reflecting the colors of their parent breeds, such as chocolate, black, cream, or apricot.

Labradoodles are known for their social and outgoing nature, which makes them excellent family pets. They are typically good with children and get along well with other dogs, fostering a sense of harmony within the household. Their intelligence and eagerness to please make them relatively easy to train, although consistent and positive reinforcement methods work best. Due to their Labrador heritage, they are also known for their energy and require regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and maintain their well-balanced temperament.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Lila! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident pack leaders you will need to really excel and be the calm, confident, obedient pack member they desire.

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Meadow! She is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever who began her Advanced Obedience training with the hopes of transitioning into our Therapy Dog Certification training afterwards.

Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States for good reason—they are intelligent, loyal, easy to train, and very affectionate. “Goldens,” as they’re often called, make wonderful family dogs because they are great with young children and other pets when socialized from puppyhood.

Golden Retrievers are medium-sized sporting dogs that weigh 55–75 pounds, with females weighing on the lower end of this range. Their height can range from 21–24 inches tall. They have a broad head, short ears, deep chest, and muscular build.

Goldens have a moderate amount of energy, even in their senior years. They enjoy a wide variety of activities such as running, going on long walks, retrieving, and swimming. They make excellent therapy dogs and guide dogs for people with impaired vision.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Meadow! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident pack members you will need to achieve your goal of becoming a Therapy Dog.

Meeting the new fur-sibling for the first time? Here’s how to make sure it’s love at first sniff, not a furry feud!

1. Neutral Ground: Start introductions in a neutral area like a park. No one wants to make a new friend in their own bedroom, right?
2. Leash and Easy: Keep both pups on leashes during their first meet-up. It’s like having a chaperone at the first date!
3. Sniff and Greet: Allow them to sniff each other — it’s their way of saying "Hey, I might like you!" Keep the leashes loose, no tension.
4. Home Sweet Home: Once they seem chill, bring them into the home together. A shared adventure back to the house sets a team vibe.
5. Separate but Equal: Give each dog their own space with separate beds and toys. Sharing is caring, but everyone appreciates having their own stuff.

Making new furry friends should be fun, not daunting. With these steps, you’ll be on your way to a harmonious household. Need more tips on making the introduction smooth? Always Faithful Dog Training is just a click away. Let’s turn that first sniff into a lifelong friendship!

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Dakota! She is a 1 1/2-year-old Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix that started her Basic Obedience training last week in the hopes of becoming a Therapy Dog. She was a stray in Texas that made her way to a shelter in Kansas, and then from Kansas to a shelter in IA where her mom found her. She has taken some time to adjust to her new home but is a gentle soul who will learn very quickly.

The Border-Aussie is a relatively new hybrid breed, created by combining two beloved and long-standing breeds – the Australian Shepherd and the Border Collie. This cross was developed with the intention of producing an intelligent, playful, and energetic companion for active dog owners. By blending two of the most intelligent and demanding dog breeds, the Border-Aussie offers a unique combination of traits that may not be suitable for everyone.

Both parent breeds are renowned for their boundless energy and remarkable intelligence. The Australian Shepherd, while highly intelligent, can sometimes be overly exuberant, while the Border Collie, originally bred for herding, possesses incredible stamina. Today, Border Collies are commonly seen excelling in various dog sports, such as agility and flyball.

Border-Aussies have remarkable intelligence and problem-solving abilities, which make them quick learners and adept at mastering new tasks. They also possess a strong herding instinct, sometimes displaying behaviors such as nipping at heels or circling family members or other pets. With their boundless energy and enthusiasm, Border-Aussies thrive in active households and excel in canine sports and activities.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Dakota! We look forward to helping your owner become the calm, confident pack leader you will need to really thrive in your new home and excel at your new job - therapy dog.

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Rocky! He is a 6-month-old German Shepherd that started his Basic Obedience training this past week. His owners reached out to us as they were having problems walking him on leash without pulling, biting, jumping, digging, and obey commands under distractions. Although they are German Shepherd owning pros, it has been a while since they have had a puppy in the house and wanted to make sure this energetic pup got started off on the right track with his training.

German shepherd dogs are one of the most popular breeds in the world, treasured for their intelligence, loyalty, and athleticism. They're large brown-and-black dogs with a streamlined build that makes them both strong and agile. Though they're excellent herding dogs, German shepherds are also very well suited to work as service animals, such as guide dogs for the visually impaired. They also serve as police officers, members of the military, guard dogs, and even movie stars.

This isn't the right breed for you if you are rarely home, live in a very small home without access to a yard, or simply don't have a lot of time to devote to your pet. The German shepherd needs a lot of companionship and attention to thrive. Plenty of regular exercise is essential for German shepherds because they have so much energy. A daily walk is not enough. If you're a jogger, a German shepherd can be a good running companion. Your dog needs to run, play, and explore to prevent frustration, boredom, and pent-up energy. A bored dog may resort to barking, digging, and chewing.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Rocky! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident pack leaders you will need to utilize your talents to the fullest in your new pack.

30/07/2024

Did you know that improperly fitted collars are a leading cause of dogs turning into accidental escape artists? Yep, about 60% of doggy disappearances are due to slipping out of their collars. Let's "buckle down" and get the fit right.

1. The Two-Finger Rule: Slide two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck. If it's a snug fit but not too tight, you're on the right track. It’s like making sure your jeans are comfy—tight enough not to fall, loose enough to dance!
2. Check Regularly: As dogs grow or change weight, their collar needs can shift. Give that collar a quick check-up every couple of months—think of it as a "neck check" to keep them safe and secure.
3. Mind the Material: Not all collars are created equal. Choose a material that suits your dog’s lifestyle. For the swimmers and mud-lovers, something waterproof and easy to clean will make life easier.

Don’t let your furry friend become MIA! Keep them safely styled in a well-fitted collar. Need more tips or a collar check? Always Faithful Dog Training is here to help!

Dolly, a 3 1/2-year-old Golden Retriever, finished up her Advanced Obedience High Distraction package this past week! Her brother Gus, a 5-month-old Golden Retriever, finished up his Puppy Basic Obedience earlier this year in May.

Their owners originally reached out to us as they were having problems walking both dogs on leash and having some leadership and general obedience issues. They wanted to make sure with the new puppy (Gus) joining the pack that they could ensure a happy, harmonious home moving forward.

They spend most of their time during the summer in an RV by the Elkhorn River so we also did some training at the river location to ensure our training transferred regardless of the environment. We are happy to report that their owners can walk both dogs through the campgrounds or neighborhood with both dogs calmly following them.

Dolly's last lesson was a field trip to Lowes, and she did great - walked beside carts while her owner shopped, walked with a dropped leash through the outside garden area, was guided through some agility challenges inside, and tested her obedience skills throughout the store. She was able to pass other customers calmly and lie down in the garden area calmly while customers walked by.

Dolly & Gus are well on their way to being the calm, confident, obedient pack members their owners desire. Time, consistency and calm, assertive leadership will ensure their success. Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha alumni family! We are proud of you all. We look forward to staying in touch and keeping up with your future successes and adventures.

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Koda! He is a 13-week-old Sheepadoodle who began his Puppy Advanced Obedience training this past week. His owners reached out to us as they were having problems with walking him on leash without pulling, biting, nipping, chewing and "hyper-excitement" issues. Ultimately, they have goals for him to be a Therapy Dog at the school in Glenwood, IA where his mom works part-time.

The Sheepadoodle is a cross of the Old English Sheepdog and Poodle, also known as Sheeppoo or Sheepdog Poodle Mix. It’s a medium to large dog breed at about 16 to 22 inches tall, weighing between 60 to 80 pounds. The lifespan of the Sheepadoodle is around 12 to 15 years. They’re also extremely friendly and will love you and your family unconditionally. Sheepadoodles are designer dogs that breeders breed especially for dog lovers that are looking for an obedient dog that’s energetic, loving and kind.

Sheepadoodles are born black, white or both. Their colors are separated in well-defined spots that can appear randomly on any part of the body. This makes for some adorable looking puppies, some of whom almost look like Panda bears, which make them even more endearing than they already are. Some Sheepadoodles come in white and red, but these usually cost more. There are also Sheepadoodles that are entirely brown or grey, but these are relatively rare.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family - Koda! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident pack leaders you will need to really thrive. It has been a while since they have had a puppy in the house, but we will teach them how to speak your language so that you can become the calm, confident pack member they desire.

24/07/2024

Welcome to the Pack...our newest members - Mindi and Stu! Mindi is a 6-month-old Bichon/Shih Tzu/Pekinese mix and Stu is a 1-year-old Miniature Poodle that began their Basic Obedience Training last week. Both were rescues from Little White Dog Rescue.

Known for their white “powder puff” coat and curious expression, the Bichon Frise dog breed can easily hide in a sea of stuffed animals. A Bichon’s long tail curls over their back; and their deep, dark eyes reflect their intelligent nature. They weigh under 20 pounds, and their sturdy and compact frame gives them a hearty look and feel.

The shih tzu is a small but sturdy dog with a lush, long, double coat. When properly trained and cared for, they can make wonderful house dogs. Their petite size makes this breed ideal for apartments and small living spaces. They're considered hypoallergenic, making them a potential match for allergy sufferers. The shih tzu has a moderate energy level and needs routine exercise. Mental and physical stimulation is a must.

The AKC Standard says the Pekingese "should imply courage, boldness, and self-esteem, rather than prettiness, daintiness, or delicacy." Indeed, the Pekingese is dignified, supremely confident, and one of the most independent of the toy breeds. Pekingese can be slow to pick up the concept of housebreaking. Expect several months of consistent crate training.

The Miniature Poodle excels in advanced obedience competition, where retrieving and jumping skills are required. They excel in agility competitions. Poodles also have the advantage of being the lightest-shedding, most hypoallergenic of all coated breeds. A good Miniature Poodle is one of the smartest and most trainable of all breeds. This is a "thinking" dog who pays attention to you, learns quickly, and responds well to training.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Mindi and Stu! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident pack leaders you will need to adapt and thrive in your new home.

Congratulations to our newest graduate - Willow! She is a 4+ year old Mini Australian Shepherd who finished up her Advanced Obedience High Distraction package this past week. Her owner reached out to us originally as she was lunging at other dogs, cars, trucks, bikes, etc., had some food aggression issues with the other two dogs in the house, and longer durations with her obedience commands.

We are pleased to report Willow no longer has food aggression issues, has improved on all of her obedience commands, built trust and confidence in her owner by being guided and coached through difficult tasks and having success, and had successful public outings at Home Depot, Lowe's and Scheels. Our last lesson at Scheels really tested her confidence and trust in her owner as it was a busy Thursday evening with more workers and customers everywhere. She was a bit uncertain with the Ferris wheel and sounds it made, but continued trips and exposure will help her become more confident with the Ferris wheel. She maneuvered past customers confidently and even met another dog that surprised her up in the dog section upstairs.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha alumni family! We are proud of you Willow! We will miss your happy butt wiggles and that smile. It has been fun watching you transform into a more confident pack member. We look forward to staying in touch and keeping up with your progress and adventures.

A proper leash enables the dog owner to set rules and boundaries during the walk and exploring time.

Many leashes are dangerous and can have the opposite effect.

Congratulations to our newest graduate...Ginger! She is a 4-year-old German Shepherd/Collie/Lab mix that was a rescue from the Winnebago Reservation. Her owners reached out to us originally as they had more experience with smaller dogs but were looking to get help with being able to walk Ginger on leash without pulling, have good general obedience inside the house, and have a better idea on how best to lead this working breed.

We are pleased to report Ginger no longer pulls on leash walks and has improved her calmness around other people, kids and dogs. She is still working to leave bunnies and squirrels alone but is well on her way to being the calm, confident pack member her owners desired when they first picked her out at the rescue. She is working hard at her commands under greater distractions and longer durations but has settled into her "follower" role nicely. Consistent walks and time with Ginger will be keys for her owners to maintain the calm, confident pack member they desire and maintain their pack leader status.

We look forward to staying in touch and keeping up with your continued adventures and progress. Once an Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha client, forever family!

Calling all dog parents...did you know that strong leadership is your secret weapon in preventing your furry friend from turning into an escape artist? Let's break it down!

Leadership isn't just about being the boss—it's about being the confident, calm guide your dog looks up to and wants to stick by. It’s less about laying down the law and more about showing the way! When your dog views you as their trusted leader, they're less likely to wander off and more likely to stay close, even without a leash. It’s all about building that trust and respect which assures them that the best place to be is by your side.

Ready to step up your leadership game and keep your dog safely by your side? Always Faithful Dog Training is here to strengthen that bond. Check us out and let's keep your pup from pulling a Houdini!

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Jake! He is an 8-month-old Goldendoodle who began his Advanced Obedience training package this past week. His owners reached out to us as they were having problems walking him on leash without pulling, excitement issues (jumping, barking, nipping), not coming when called, and wanted to fine tune his general obedience.

The goldendoodle is a crossbreed between a golden retriever and a poodle originally developed in the late 1960s to serve as guide dogs for those allergic to dogs. The breed typically has curly, hypoallergenic hair and hardly sheds thanks to its non-shedding poodle ancestors.

Goldendoodles are highly intelligent, athletic, and lovable dogs that are great with kids and other pets. The goldendoodle is known for their affectionate personality and willingness to please, making this a popular choice for families. Due to their gentle temperament and high trainability, they have been used as pets, agility dogs, guide dogs, therapy dogs, diabetic dogs, and search and rescue dogs.

With average to above-average energy levels, goldendoodles require daily exercise and love to go for walks, runs, hikes, and swims. Their playful nature and retriever genes make them great fetch partners, too. Owners should aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise each day including walking, running, swimming, and tackling agility courses.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Jake! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident pack leaders you will need to be challenged physically and mentally in the right ways and manage your energy levels so you can really thrive.

10/07/2024

Welcome to the Pack...our newest members - Blaze & Luna! Blaze is a 7-year-old Australian Shepherd mix (maybe Border Collie) and Luna is a 1-year-old Papillion/American Eskimo mix. Both were rescued from the Humane Society in Council Bluffs. Their owners reached out as they were having problems walking the dogs on leash without pulling, nipping, biting, barking and general obedience issues.

The Australian shepherd, or Aussie, is a medium-sized herding dog with medium-length fur and an agile, athletic build. Aussies are an extremely intelligent, loyal, and hard-working breed that makes excellent companions for active people and families. They are adept at herding, dog sports, and search-and-rescue—they can even be therapy or service dogs. It is essential for your Aussie to get frequent exercise, even more than most dogs. This intelligent and high-energy dog can become bored, frustrated, destructive, and hyperactive if they don’t get enough mental and physical stimulation. Aussies should get at least one to two hours per day of fairly strenuous activity.

The Papimo is a unique mix between the dainty Papillon and the hardworking American Eskimo Dog. Both parent breeds bring a long list of desirable traits, such as being loving and outgoing. They also are loyal pups that will forge strong bonds with their owners. The Papillon has been a favorite of royalty and celebrities. The American Eskimo historically was a versatile farm dog. He was an all-purpose pup, doing all kinds of tasks from protecting his home to hunting for game.

Welcome to the Always Faithful Dog Training of Omaha family, Blaze & Luna! We look forward to helping your owners become the calm, confident, assertive pack leaders you will need for them to achieve the peaceful, harmonious home they desire.
