Meet Appa! This is the face of an adolescent boy who would prefer do almost anything besides settle. Swipe left to see that settling is indeed possible and keep reading for tips on how to help your pup with this important skill.
Also- these photos were taken at - for those who haven’t been there, they are worth checking out! Their patio is pretty secluded too so can be an easier place to practice settling with your dog. They also have amazing craft cocktails and apps if you need to start with a shorter outing instead of a full meal.
Tips to help:
1) Whether you’re at home or out at a restaurant, starting with your dog on leash will help keep them close so you’re able to give them feedback.
2) Pick a location away from too many distractions.
3) Initially, ask them to lie down. Continue to reward them for lying down or any movement towards more relaxation.
4) Praise them anytime a noise or distraction happens that you think would be enticing to grab their attention.
5) Keep rewarding them anytime they lie down or look relaxed and comfortable.
6) Keep the practice/outing short enough that they can be successful.

Meet the other half of the Wild Intentions family! Jamie has loved Bend for years and been looking forward to starting a dog training company in Central Oregon so was beyond happy when Chelsea agreed to make the move. They currently reside with their six dogs, pictured here from left to right, and pictures 1-3: Zurich, Trouvez, Jaiden, Milo, Otis, Bravery, Reyka & Coco.

Meet one half of the Wild Intentions family! Jenna and her husband Collin have wanted to make the move to Bend for years, and are so glad to have made the move. They have two dogs, an old man chihuahua named Jeeves, and a 3 year old Chinook named Ryla (also pictured is Kaelyn, who they lost last year). Today is also a good day to introduce Collin, who is a veteran who just returned from his second deployment. Thank you to all that have served. 🇺🇸

Meet Cash! We have been working on his leash skills as he is temporarily living in Bend and in his excitement about how dog friendly it all is, he has been pulling a lot on leash. With the addition of a wonder walker harness and some new rules to follow on leash, he’s been getting better and better. Leash skills are a great goal for our owner absent private trainings- we come to you and work with your dog one on one. Then show you how at the end- this way we know what works for your dog and have laid the foundation. It’s a great resource!

One of the best parts of adventure boarding are the off leash adventures, which happen almost every day of the week! While you are away, your dog gets to adventure as well. We still have a few openings left over the holidays that are quickly approaching!

We love a good settle cue that means to go there, lie there, & stay there. Teaching your dogs to settle can be so helpful for when you have guests stop by, you’re cooking dinner, or you just need a little space. Here, Frankie is working on “Park it!” which is his cue to get on his bed, lie down and stay there until released. Meet Kevin! He is an adorable young corgi puppy, doing a board and train with us this week to work on all of the puppy basics and socialization. Like a lot of young puppies he is trying out jumping up to get what he wants. We have been working on teaching him that if there’s something he wants, sitting is a great way to get it instead. Here he shows us that he can sit for attention, before we throw a toy, set down his food dish or exit a doorway.
