Truffles: 2023 Heart of the Horse Trainers Challenge

Yesterday our classes were freestyle, awards, and auction.
Truffles behaved herself all weekend but she really behaved in our freestyle! I’m so proud of her and how far she’s come in just 120 days from being barely halter broke to becoming a safe, reliable, rideable parter.

Truffles did not get bid on by anyone but she will be at Mississippi Horse Rescue in Canton/Madison and will be in their Train a Rescue Camp this summer along with other horses that did not find their right person yesterday.
She will be continued in her training by volunteers and when I go to volunteer there as well.
I couldn’t be prouder of Truffles!☺️🐎

We posted this last night but it did not post.

Yesterday we did our health and ground manners and our horsemanship and trail class.
Health and Ground Manners:
She did pretty good until we got to the trailer, she wasn’t tied but the lead line got caught on something and she set back, we got the situation handled with thanks to the HOH judges.
Horsemanship and Trail:
She did really good in this class and conquered every obstacle asked of.She never spooked but did question a few things but decided that with her confidence in me I wouldn’t put her through anything she can’t do.

I’m so proud of Truffles and the things that we’ve been able to accomplish together!

Truffles is settled in her temporary home at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds!
We rode around the Kirk Fordice Center and practiced our freestyle in the arena. She is handling this new environment very well! She got a bath after riding and is ready to start our horsemanship and trail classes tomorrow starting at 8am. Make sure to come out and watch the awards ceremony Saturday, at 2pm!
We have been working every one of these 120 days of training and have made so much progress! I’m so proud of the things we’ve accomplished!!😊🐎

Truffles is ready for the Heart of the Horse Challenge this weekend May 19 & 20!
We have worked so hard these past 4 months and now she is ready to continue her life with her partner to be. I’m so proud of her and the things we’ve accomplished together!

This is our fourth and final .
We posted this yesterday , but technical difficulties cancelled it.
Truffles has come so far! This video is a view of these past 3.5 months.
Truffles and I have learned so much through this challenge! Now, she is ready to find her forever home and be someone’s wonderful partner! She is a 13.2 H , 3 year old quarter pony, very smart, and has a personality of her own! Thank you Julie Seal for putting together this HOH challenge and thank you DCT Paso Fino for being my wonderful trainer mentors!

Truffles really has had a wonderful week!
Today we worked in the arena because of the rain ,lightning, and thunder. She did so good and used the thinking side of her brain instead of reacting. We also worked on mounting block, sidepassing , leg yielding, and our freestyle! I’m so proud of how far she’s come !☺️ Make sure to send in your adoption applications to become an approved adopter by THIS SUNDAY MAY 7 !!

Truffles has grown so much since January !
In the beginning of this challenge, she was just above 13 H. Three months later, she is almost 13.3 H thanks to Purina !
Today we worked a lot on obstacles , crossing water, and our FREESTYLE for the challenge May 19 and 20 !🥳

She is a 3 year old quarter pony , 13.2 H ( she’ll get bigger) ,and VERY SMART!! If you think you might be interested in adopting her, she needs a confident, determined, experienced , and knowledgeable rider to be her leader. She will be available for adoption May 20. Today we worked more under saddle! Thanks to our mentors, Vickie & Tommy Griffith, for helping us make these important first rides safe, good experiences. Truffles is very smart, but can be very reactive, so keeping her calm as she learns to carry my weight on her back while she is moving is key to letting her learn that we can be a good team.

Because Truffles seemed so scared of the trailer when we went to the clinic last week, we spent time this week working on desensitizing to the trailer and loading without a fuss. Our hard work is paying off!

On Feb 4th, we went to Doug Ford's Train the Trainer clinic in Canton. Truffles was pretty upset when she saw the trailer coming to get her, and her load up was pretty chaotic. She did calm down after we got on the road, and progressed so well at the clinic that we were able to try mounting in the saddle for the first time!
