It’s time for our rescue kitties to spread their wings and FLY ✈️✈️✈️

Let’s get these babies their golden tickets to BOSTON!!! ☘️🐾

Adoptions on island have been extremely slow and rescues are at max capacity. Unless our kitties get adopted, our intakes are completely closed. The absolute best way for our kitties to find their forever home is by flying them to one of our rescue partners on the mainland. This means they will not be stuck in a shelter or cat cafe for months waiting to be adopted and that we can quickly make space & build capacity for new kitties in need.

We rely entirely on your support to make miracles happen. Rest assured that every cent of your donation goes solely to the cats in need. Rescue Kitties of Hawai’i operates without any overhead costs or paid salaries, as we are entirely run by volunteers. This means that 100% of your contributions go directly towards cat care, with no profit made from adoptions. RKH is dedicated solely to the well-being of the cats.

Garibaldi & Austin were adopted in Boston by one of our wonderful foster partners and they are doing amazingly 💛

They have the best parents and are having so much fun with their new kitty siblings 😺

We’re so grateful for this incredible outcome for these former bottle babies! Enjoy a lifetime of love & happiness, little ones 🥰

Letting your unneutered female out, is subjecting her to this
Taking refuge up a tree while 4 males wait to subject her to a horrible ordeal - she will try her hardest to get away - she will be chased and cornered until they manage to grab her - she will fight her attackers and suffer bites, cuts and bruises but won't win.
The noise of the attack will be ear splitting .... But yes, of course you love your cat.

She will then be pregnant, probably give birth in someone's garden or shed - not knowing when she will get food - some of the babies may die, but then so may your girl if she has a difficult birth ( then any healthy babies will also starve to death )

But of course you love your unneutered girl, as you let her outside yet again !!

Please get your cats spayed / neutered!

“I haven’t slept more than 3 hours in 3 days, but this lil guy is somehow still with us and still fighting 😭🙏
His labored breathing has been very concerning, of course, but he is not suffering at this time.
He’s struggling. There is a big difference between those 2 words.
He’s not eating on his own yet because he is so congested with the lung infection and he cannot smell food.
Plus, he probably feels pretty lousy, being so sick.🥹
I am syringe feeding tiny amounts of wet food- literally a drop at a time- to avoid him aspirating, giving proper meds, and subq fluids.
He will remain in the incubator on Oxygen as long as it takes to help him breathe well and heal.
I don’t know what will happen.
I’m taking it minute by minute with him.
His Drs gave him a 50/50 chance of survival and I agree.
A 50% chance of LIFE is good enough for me to lose all sleep and give this lil guy everything I’ve got in me.
I will never let a cat suffer if there is no quality of life.
If he declines, tough decisions may have to be made.
But for right now, he is still fighting and so am I.”

Update on 2 Critical Kittens🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘
We were up all night fighting for Stash while Opihi remained hospitalized at VCA🙏
Their doctors said Stash has a 50/50 chance and that means we fight!💪
We are absolutely exhausted 😩 but if they have a chance we WILL NOT give up. 🐾
Stash held steady overnight in our incubator w/O2, but this morning we saw a sudden decline in his breathing and we rushed him immediately back to VCA.😩
He was admitted and his chest xrays showed some abnormalities in his lungs (consistent with infection)
While we worried for Stash, we got the uplifting and incredible news that baby Opihi was bouncing back!!! His sugars and temperature were stabilizing and he started eating on his own!🙌
Both kittens remained hospitalized all day again today and they were released this evening.🙏🙏🙏🙏
They are both still in guarded and critical condition. They are not out of the woods (Stash especially) and we are in the fight still and we really need your help🙏
Mahalo for all your donations and support to do everything we can for Opihi and Stash.

UPDATE ON 2 critical 🚨 kittens hospitalized at VCA!!🆘 EMERGENCY FUNDS STILL NEEDED🙏 Please HELP🆘
We have been hit with a Double Whammy😩

🩵🐾💛Stash is the 8 wk old gray/white pneumonia kitten with labored breathing
He must remain on oxygen but is getting released to go directly into an incubator/O2 with our experienced medical foster.
He is definitely not out of the woods, so please pray for him to recover so he can breathe normally again 😩🙏

Opihi is very small, malnourished, dehydrated, and has low blood sugar and a low temp. He is making progress on IV fluids and Dextrose, and he MUST remain hospitalized at least until tomorrow morning to give him a chance to survive 🙏

We are doing EVERYTHING we can to save BOTH precious lives.
We are making the best decisions with the guidance of our amazing VCA vet to stretch each penny as wisely as possible.

Thanks to YOU, Stash’s ICU vet bill for today of approx $600 is Paid in Full!!!😭🙌🩷
We will update on his progress as he goes🙏

Opihi’s ICU estimate is approx $1600-$2k

Update as of 1 pm today:

Update: Dr suspects Opihi has pneumonia 😭
He is on oxygen and Drs are working to stabilize him🙏🙏

-Second kitten has temp of 95* and low sugars (hypothermic and hypoglycemic)and he is dehydrated and lethargic 😩
-He is on IV fluids and Drs are working hard to stabilize him as well.🙏

When it rains, it pours 😭💔

🧡 Adoption Update 🧡

Eddie was found very sick and limping from severe abscesses on the North Shore of Oahu a few months ago. We took him in, gave him the medical care he needed, and got him ready for adoption.

Adopted he was - to an absolutely amazing family! One of our former RKH foster’s mom had recently lost her senior kitty and she reached out to try foster to adopt. She wanted to make sure Eddie was the purrfect fit for her and her family. And she says that the moment Eddie met them, “he just made himself right at home.” It was truly meant to be.

Look at how happy Eddie and his forever family are! Eddie has had such an amazing transformation thanks to everyone involved in his rescue journey. Happy tails, little buddy. You’ve found your home forever ✨🏡🧡

Foster fail means happy tails for Little Ellie!!! 😸🩷🐾

A few months ago one of our RKH volunteers rescued an abandoned bottle baby who had a URI and was refusing to eat. An amazing VCA Family and Oahu Veterinary Specialty Center employee took the baby in to nurse it back to health…and now, she’s family!

All of Little Ellie’s dreams have come true. At 4 months, her forever family says: “Little Ellie is a crazy girl with a TON of energy. She also loves cuddles and to play with her big brothers.”

We know she has found the best forever family, and we are so happy to share this foster fail news 🩷

Here’s to a lifetime of zoomies, cuddles, uninterrupted naps, and delicious treats, Little Ellie 🐾🎉

All he wants to do is RUN and PLAY😊
Despite his paralyzed hind legs and incontinence, he has no clue he is any different from his furrrr siblings and BFF, lil Miss Catalina of Moloka’i (tortie kitten)
And we are definitely NOT going to tell him.

Boris Jr spent the week boarding at Mililani Mauka Veterinary Clinic with his awesome vet team.
Dr Furutani was able to get to know him better and help determine his best life plan.
We also have been consulting with our favorite AMAZING board certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr Nathaniel Lam (VCA) and he and Dr Furutani agree that we need to try a skateboard type wheelchair🦼 for BJ 🩵
Dr F will build a custom made wheelchair when he gets a little bigger.
He’s already tripled in size and weight!!
And he’s growing so fast, we have to buy a less expensive wheelchair to get him goin’ and invest in a top quality, more costly wheelchair, when he is over 6 months old.

“Some of you may wonder why I post so many animals in need. Sad stories. Upsetting to see. I get no pleasure from it. I responded to a friend's comment about how heartbreaking a post I sent was and found my fingers typing the below.....I know many of my rescue friends wiill agree.

My response to my friend:

Sometimes I feel badly that I share so much like this. But I feel it's my duty as a rescuer to keep reminding people of what goes on out there. I want to educate and push those who love animals, but maybe don't know how to help or don't think they need to, to be empowered and furious enough to step out of their comfort zones.

🐾Maybe they finally decide to foster.
🐾Maybe they say something to someone they never would have said before about the importance of spaying and neutering.
🐾Maybe they donate to a rescue they wouldn't have before.
🐾Maybe they help a neighbor get a cat who's on its 4th litter of kittens fixed.
🐾Maybe they share a post of an animal in need; and that share results in an adoption.
🐾Maybe THEY adopt their next pet from a shelter, rather than a breeder.
🐾Maybe they don't adopt at all, because they finally get that animals are not disposable and if they can't commit for the life of the animal, they shouldn't get it at all.
🐾Maybe they finally spay and neuter that ranch dog that keeps getting pregnant.
🐾Maybe they donate their old towels and blankets to their local shelter or donate a bag of cat or dog food to a rescue.
🐾Maybe they save up their money so when their pet needs something, they can pay for it.
🐾Maybe they see that dumping a senior dog at a shelter or letting it suffer isn't acceptable behavior and choose to do the right thing.
🐾Maybe they keep a collar and ID tag on their dog and chip him, because they now understand the importance.
🐾Maybe instead of driving past the dog out in the country, they stop and take it in for its safety.
🐾Maybe they take in that feral mom and kittens, send the kittens to rescue, and TNR the mom.
🐾Maybe they start teaching their children about how to properly care for animals and they do that by being a living example of responsible pet ownership.
🐾And most importantly, maybe they cherish the animals they have by getting them fixed, accessing vet care when it's needed, letting them be a part of the family, and loving them until their time on this Earth is through.

The truth is we have to educate, empower, and shake people up! We can't just rescue and not do the others. We have to change behavior, with the goal of reducing the numbers of animals in need. We know that rescues and shelters can't do it all.....especially now. So I will continue to share the sad. If a single person changes just one thing for the benefit of one animal, that's enough for me 🐾🥰🙌🙏”
