Twas the night before Christmas, when all over the bed
Little pom pooches were resting their heads.
Their tummies were full, and they had all their play
"It's sleepy time now", you hear mommy say.

They sense something special about this dark night,
A slight restless air, and candles alight.
Decorations are sparkling and oh, what a joy!
To sneak little bobbles, thinking they are a toy.

The people tuck in and pups yawn and they stretch,
For a brief moment, they beg to play fetch.
A whisper or two, and a kiss on the nose,
All settle in and begin to doze.

When all of a sudden a slight noise is heard,
A person, or reindeer, or maybe a bird?
No matter the cause, they jump up alert,
And yap till the sound is no longer heard.

They rushed down the stairs, all in a flurry,
To find a red bag, all big and furry.
A big jolly man rose up from behind,
he surveyed the scene,
"Oh dear, what a bind".

A diversion, he thought, is just what he needs,
A biscuit or bacon, or maybe some cheese.
He spotted right then a tray full of crackers, upended it there and the poms licked their smackers.
"Now", he thought, "I must make my escape!"
He grabbed his big bag, and tripped on the drape.

In a moment or two, he'd opened the flu
Up the chimney he bailed, in all the to do.
He breathed a deep sigh, and sat on his seat
When out of his bag, he heard a slight squeak.

Two little round eyes peered out at from his sack,
And he couldn't help laughing, so taken aback.
The reindeer pranced nervously, wanting away.
That one little puppy just wanted to play.

Now the big man in red really was in a hurry,
no time to go back into that fuzzy flurry!
The pup bounced and leapt, not a thought in his head.
The bells jingled a bit and he caught the deers scent.
He yapped and he barked, with protective intent.

Off went the reindeer, all in a rush,
"Whoa Prancer, and Dancer, and oh - would you shush!"

And this is how Santa got his first pom,
He's gotten some more since I've written this song.

So ware those wee sounds that set poms all alight
One just might go missing by the end of the night!
