Happy National K9 Veteran’s Day to all Military Working Dogs🇺🇸🐕 who have served in the past as well as who are presently serving. This picture was named “Into the Breach,” the K9 fearlessly leading the charge was named MWD Benno. (Same handler of MPC K9 Layka)
I love this representation of K9 Benno as part of his Unit, not less than but essential! So much of the way the military has to move around a hostile country is so dependant on the Nose of the Working K9’s. Their job to sniff out bombs in the ground, in cars, buildings and on persons was essential just to move from one area to another. Humans can never replicate these actions to the accuracy of a Canine. We are Grateful for their Service, Companionship, and for allowing Soldiers to make it home. They will never be seen as just a dog… they are considered a member of the unit, a Soldier. We Thank You. ❤️💙🐕🇺🇸🙏🏼

So both my pups have come to me through Rescue. I use to volunteer walking dogs to help give the Rescue Pups exercise and also prepare them for their new owner by teaching them obedience while working on their manners. Well Sam (the dog pictured) was one of my walking visits. Sam’s known history was that he was a male, 7mos old, with a history of being tied up (he came with some neck issues), relinquished from his owners, so you could imagine what his first day on a leash may have looked like. Well… that first day I did my usual when I got a dog that had never been walked on leash before. We would go to the side of the Veterinarian facility, and we do some simple leash work, with some free shaping training using food reward…we make friends. Well as you can see Sam and I became more than just Friends… We became each others Safe Place.🙏🏼. Sam initially was not able to sit himself next to me for any amount of time and as odd as this may sound, he did not develop well rounded dog thinking skills, how could he, he was tied up to a tree, no need to think much, so he came across as a little slow… but that is not the case anymore. He still does not like a ton of pressure on him, but lays next to me no problem, he is trained in obedience some heel work, games, and has acquired problem solving skills which makes me proud. When Sam looks at me, he looks “to me,” he depends on me… I take my job very serious. The bond is great, the love undeniable. ❤️🐕
