🐾🧡 No 1-2-1s today due to the red severe weather warning 🔴🌪️☔️ but here’s a photo of this very handsome boy who I worked with last week! 🧡🐾

As he is blind, we built in lots of verbal cues and ‘sniffy’ exercises to the training session - he did brilliantly well! 🤩🌟

🐾🧡 WOW - our first night back of 2025 at partnership grade classes was PAWTASTIC! 🧡🐾

We had a mix of new starts and some dogs returning to continue their training and they were all total superstars! 🌟😍
I can’t wait to see how they all progress over the coming weeks! 🤩

A very sad day in the dog training world ❤️🐾

We are deeply saddened to learn of Karen Pryor's passing. She was a pioneer in animal training and behaviour whose contributions have shaped modern dog training as we know it. Her innovative approach and entrepreneurial spirit transformed the industry, paving the way for countless trainers and animals to benefit from science-based, positive reinforcement methods.

Karen’s work extended far beyond the Karen Pryor Academy, which has educated and inspired trainers worldwide. Her book, Don’t Shoot the Dog, introduced an entire generation of trainers to the principles of clicker training and remains a cornerstone of dog training literature. The annual Clicker Expos she founded became vital opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and community-building within the field. Her legacy also includes Reaching the Animal Mind, a profound exploration of the science and art of animal training.

Karen’s vision, intelligence, and compassion revolutionised how we communicate with and understand our canine companions. Her contributions have had a lasting impact on the lives of trainers and the dogs they work and live with. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide the animal training community for generations to come.

Our thoughts are with Karen’s family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

That’s a wrap for 2024 and I just want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of my clients, followers and their wonderful dogs for training with me, supporting my little business and being part of this amazing journey! 🥰
This year I transitioned to part time working and it has enabled me to follow my dreams and focus on my passion for dogs and dog training! 🥰🧡
I will be forever grateful to all of the people I have met on this journey, everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, inspired me and those who have given me the most amazing opportunities to get to where I am today! 🌟

A little reminder… 🥰🎄🐾🎅🏼

We're craving our Christmas dinner already, but which foods can you share with your dog? 🍗
Turns out, quite a lot! Do you treat your dog at Christmas? If so, just be confident that you're giving them safe snacks.

You can share ✅
Plain turkey and sausages, veggies like carrots, peas, parsnips and sweet potatoes.

Be sure to avoid ❌
Sweet treats with dried fruits like raisins such as Christmas Pudding, Mince Pies and Stollen. Steer clear of onions, blue cheese and stuffing - and of course, chocolate!

🎄🐾🧡 TRICK 11 - RING THE BELL 🧡🐾🎄 ‘Ring the bell’ is a cute trick and fits in well with the Christmas theme! 😜🐶 Step 1: have a bell and your dog in front of you with some tasty treats ready to use Step 2: present your hand just above the bell to cue a ‘paw’ (you may need to use the cue word ‘paw’ initially too) Step 3: as your dog goes to paw your hand, quickly remove your hand and your dogs paw should tap the bell Step 4: when your dogs paw taps the bell or gets very close to it, mark with a ‘good’ or ‘yes’ and reward with a treat Step 5: repeat lots of times and once your dog has the hang of it, you can use a finger point as you cue ‘ring’ or whichever word you choose to cue the behaviour 🐶 Watch the video to see it in action… 🥰 #christmastricks #christmasenrichment #christmasfun #christmaschallengefordogs #dogtraining #dogtricks #12tricksofchristmas #christmascountdown #dogtrainerfun #lochgilphead #brightpaws #brightpawsdogtraining #welshterrier

🎄🐾🧡 TRICK 10 - ROUND AN OBJECT 🧡🐾🎄 A fun and easy trick for keeping our dogs bodies flexible and active - particularly useful on a wet and miserable day to have some fun in the house but also great fun when you’re out and about. The woods are a natural obstacle course! 😜🐶 Step 1: set up any object which your dog can manoeuvre round, bear in mind the height and size of your dog when choosing an object Step 2: have some tasty treats ready to use and start with your dog just to one side of you Step 3: use a treat close to your dogs nose and lure your dog slowly round the object, marking and rewarding when they have completed a circle Step 4: repeat several times Step 5: once your dog has the hang of it you can start to phase out the lure and use your finger/hand only as a visual cue 🐶 Watch the video to see it in action… how many times can your dog circle round the object…?! 🥰🤪 #christmastricks #christmasenrichment #christmasfun #christmaschallengefordogs #dogtraining #dogtricks #12tricksofchristmas #christmascountdown #dogtrainerfun #lochgilphead #brightpaws #brightpawsdogtraining #welshterrier
