Since it’s the last one, let’s be creative! 🤓 For this trick use any box (I’m sure we’ve all got plenty of cardboard boxes lying around at this time of year 😂) and make up your own trick using it. 📦
Some ideas include your dog jumping over it, jumping into it or putting paws up on to it… what can you and your dog come up with? 🐶
Remember to mark and reward your dog every time they do the behaviour you wish. 🤩

🎄🐾🧡 TRICK 11 - RING THE BELL 🧡🐾🎄
‘Ring the bell’ is a cute trick and fits in well with the Christmas theme! 😜🐶
Step 1: have a bell and your dog in front of you with some tasty treats ready to use
Step 2: present your hand just above the bell to cue a ‘paw’ (you may need to use the cue word ‘paw’ initially too)
Step 3: as your dog goes to paw your hand, quickly remove your hand and your dogs paw should tap the bell
Step 4: when your dogs paw taps the bell or gets very close to it, mark with a ‘good’ or ‘yes’ and reward with a treat
Step 5: repeat lots of times and once your dog has the hang of it, you can use a finger point as you cue ‘ring’ or whichever word you choose to cue the behaviour 🐶

🎄🐾🧡 TRICK 10 - ROUND AN OBJECT 🧡🐾🎄
A fun and easy trick for keeping our dogs bodies flexible and active - particularly useful on a wet and miserable day to have some fun in the house but also great fun when you’re out and about. The woods are a natural obstacle course! 😜🐶
Step 1: set up any object which your dog can manoeuvre round, bear in mind the height and size of your dog when choosing an object
Step 2: have some tasty treats ready to use and start with your dog just to one side of you
Step 3: use a treat close to your dogs nose and lure your dog slowly round the object, marking and rewarding when they have completed a circle
Step 4: repeat several times
Step 5: once your dog has the hang of it you can start to phase out the lure and use your finger/hand only as a visual cue 🐶

🎄🐾🧡 TRICK 9 - PAWS UP 🧡🐾🎄
Teach your dog to put their ‘paws up’ on an object or piece of furniture. This is a nice easy trick, can be done using any stationary object and teaches your dog to target an object by putting their paws up on it. 🐶
Step 1: set up your stationary object, have some tasty treats ready to use and start with your dog close to the object
Step 2: present your hand flat on the object, if your dog knows the visual cue for ‘paw’ they may target your hand straight away, in which case you should mark with a ‘yes’ or ‘good’ and reward with a treat (if they are finding it tricky, ask for a paw at the same time as presenting your hand but remove this cue word as soon as they get the hang of the behaviour)
Step 3: gradually reduce the number of fingers you present each time until you are only using 1 finger laying flat on the object
Step 4: remove your finger as you point to the object and now cue an ‘up’ 🐶
(Remember to mark and reward each time your dog gets it right 🤩)

🎄🐾🧡 TRICK 8 - STAY AND WALK ROUND🧡🐾🎄
This is a fun trick and looks impressive as your dog stays stationary whilst you walk round them. It builds their focus skills and teaches them to remain chilled with distractions going on around them. 🐶
Step 1: have your tasty treats ready and your dog in front of you
Step 2: ask your dog to lie down
Step 3: hold your hand out in front of your dogs as you cue your dog to ‘stay’
Step 4: when your dog remains in the down position, mark with a ‘yes’ or ‘good’ and reward that, repeating lots of times
Step 5: now cue your dog to ‘stay’ and move 1 step round to the side of them, quickly move back to your starting point and mark and reward your dog for staying in the down position
Step 6: now gradually add the extra steps until you can walk all the way around your dog and return to your starting position, with your dog staying in the down position 🐶
(Remember to mark and reward each time your dog gets it right and build the steps up gradually 🤩)

Another great trick for stretching our dogs bodies and keeping them flexible and active. But even better, it’s great fun and can be very useful when you’re out and about, particularly in the woods where there are lots of natural objects to jump over! 🐶
Step 1: set up an object to jump over using any items you can find
Step 2: have some tasty treats ready to use and start with your dog at one side
Step 3: toss a treat over the object and your dog will jump over to get the treat
Step 4: repeat lots of times
Step 5: once your dog has the hang of it you can begin using your finger as a visual cue and the words ‘over’ as a verbal cue to encourage your dog to jump over without a treat - remember to mark and reward your dog when they do jump over 🐶

👃🏻 Mantrailing is simply teaching your dog to follow the scent of a person until they find them. It’s great for working their noses and is the perfect outlet to practise their natural instinct… to sniff! 👃🏻
