Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Orion is at risk for behavioral reasons. Orion has a bite history and has displayed fearful behaviors while at the care center including handling/touch sensitivities. Summary:: According to Helen's previous owner, she is good with other dogs but prefers to play with smaller dogs.

9/25: When off leash at the Care Center, Helen is introduced to a novel male dog. She greets the male with a soft posture then explores the pens. She checks in with the male and offers him spins and a quick bounce before walking away.

9/26: Helen was utilized as a greeter today due to her display of social behaviors. She greets with a wiggly posture and offers bounces and play bows. She engages in bouncy chase play with novel males and attempts to mount in between bouts. A novel male becomes aroused during play and begins to jump on Helen’s back and grumbles but her posture remains loose.

9/27- 9/29: Helen continues to be social and playful with known male dogs. She can be pushy at times when soliciting play but is easily redirected by handlers. When greeting a novel male dog, Helen self-handicaps when the male is pushy with his ge***al sniffs. When introduced to a novel female she greets her with a soft posture before walking away

10/8: Helen plays exuberantly with another large dog and becomes aroused when play becomes rough.

Summary (1):: Helen understands the cues for "sit," "come," "down," "shake/paw" and "stay."

ENERGY LEVEL:: Helen has been observed to exhibit a medium level of energy during her interactions in the care center. We cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment, but we recommend that she be provided daily mental and physical stimulation as an outlet for her energy.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to barking, growling, and snapping at the child in the home when he approached her and her owner, we recommend an adult only home.

Place with a New Hope partner: Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Helen be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Helen to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Helen to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Helen presents with outside of the care centers.

Potential challenges: : House soiling,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: Previous owner reported Helen to have frequent accidents in the home. Please refer to the handout for House soiling.

Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Helen is reported to bark and growl at people who approach her when she is with her owner. She snapped at the child in the home when he got close to her owner. She also sits outside the door of any room her owner is in and barks and growls at other people who approach her. She will need positive reinforcement, force-free training to work on this behavior. Please see handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.

OLD SPICE #77849
BROOKLYN ACC

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Old spice was paced at risk due to behavioral and medical concerns; he was diagnosed with Allergies, CIRDC, Dermatitis, Heart Murmur, and has a mass. Old spice is also displaying concerning behavior in the shelter. he has displayed a low threshold for arousal during his interactions. During his assessment, Old Spice rapidly became overstimulated and jumped up onto the handler and repeatedly attempted to mount with an inability to settle or refocus after being interrupted. Due to this observed behavior on multiple occasions, we feel Old Spice should be placed with an experienced rescue partner who can reassess his behavior in a more stable home environment before seeking permanent placement.
