Doica has now been here for a couple of weeks and we think she is ready to start advertising, so the following advert will be going out on Jacky's local pages this weekend 🙏🙏.

This pretty princess is called Doica and she is my latest Romanian foster dog looking for her forever home.

Doica is 18mths to 2 years, small size at approx 7kg and she was found on the streets by an elderly couple, having recently given birth. Despite their best efforts, the rescuers were sadly unable to locate the pups 😪😪, but they took Doica in and cared for her.

Doica really is full of fun and truly brightens up every day with her friendly, affectionate, playful and slightly cheeky personality! She arrived wagging her tail and it just hasn't stopped.

When she meets new people, she wags her tail furiously and will sidle up carefully (and who can blame her given the harsh treatment she has endured) but once she trusts, she just adores fuss and attention.

She is also a bright little girl, who is quickly learning the house rules. She is quiet at night, crate trained, toilet trained, lives happily with my dogs and fine with cats.

Doica would suit a family or active older adopters. Essentially she would suit anyone who has lots of love to give and can continue with her basic training.

She is spayed, vaccinated and blood tested for foreign diseases. Home check and adoption fees apply to Zaks Legacy.

If you think Doica might be the girl for you or you would like to know more, please PM, text or WhatsApp Jacky on 07436 425578

Just thought we would update you on Rosa's progress and it is good news ☺️.

Rosa's tests so far have ruled out some serious diseases. She is mildly anaemic and has a slight heart murmur so we will continue to monitor this.

It is possible that some of her symptoms are due to mild onset dementia, which is quite common in dogs but let's be honest, it could be so much worse!

Rosa is happy being a slightly grumpy old lady and putting the other foster dogs in their place 😂. Let us hope she continues to live with Jacky for some time to come 🙏🙏.

Poor Dillon! He arrived with me about an hour after Doica arrived with Jacky. However, he was vastly different from the videos I’d seen of him in Romania where he was lively, sprightly and intelligent. Sadly he was extremely shut down and terrified. The poor lad just wanted to be back where he’d spent all his life. To us the ‘existence’ they lead is heartbreaking .. but to them it’s all they’ve ever known ..

Here we are nearly a week later and a very different chap thankfully. He’s had his first ever little walks, which do scare him a bit … and is VERY scared of the cars going by .. so he and I will have to do a lot of work on that .. but at least he’s turned a page to a far better life .. and does realise it at last.

He’s also met his adopters, for whom I brought him over and he really does like them both. They can’t wait for his rehab to be over so he can move in with them!

I have apologised to Jacky because I only realised the significance of today after she’d posted about Rosa .. who is quite a sweetie btw!

Around 19/20 years ago I got a call asking me to step in and save a little pup who’d been passed around 3 homes in as many days .. and was about to be passed on yet again. I stepped up of course .. and because he seemed such a special little chap I decided he’d made his last move! I never regretted it.

9 years ago today he passed away shockingly suddenly.

Ladies and gentlemen … please meet my Zak!

To date approximately 130 + dogs have been saved in his name. Zakkie .. I love you and I’m never going to stop missing you 💔

Rosa's Story:

Rosa spent many years living on the streets in Romania and she was in a very bad way when found and rescued.

She came to us 4 years ago and was thought to be 9 to 10 years old. Sadly the home she went to did not work out and she became very anxious, so she was returned to Jacky.

We did advertise her, thinking she would suit an elderly person, but to no avail 😪😪.

Rosa spent so many years living rough and never knowing love or affection, so she now finds it very overwhelming. She likes a back scratch and occasional fuss, but essentially prefers to be left alone. This is absolutely fine with us because no dog should be expected or pushed into changing just because it suits us better!!

Recently, Rosa at 14 years of age, has developed some old age problems and is undergoing bloods and investigation, so she will remain with Jacky for as long as she has left.

Rosa's tests are not cheap and this is why we have some funds set aside for unexpected medical bills, but Rosa is happy and safe and this is all that matters to us!

Doica arrived last night and she is a delightful, very friendly, waggy tailed little dog 🥰🥰.

She was a bit anxious about going in the garden in the dark, but after a quiet night she is now happy to explore.

She has a few little house rules to learn, such as that the dining room table is out of bounds 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️, but she will be an absolutely smashing little dog for some lucky person very soon.

As usual, we will keep you updated and let you know when she is ready for adoption. 🙏🙏

There’s a surprise traveller for ZL on the same bus as Doica! He was a late booking and we weren’t sure he was going to make it.

A couple who didn’t respond quickly enough to Freddys ad have been looking through pictures and videos of dogs in Romania that I’ve been sending them … and have made their choice. His name is Dillon and he’s absolutely nothing whatsoever like Freddy but on seeing many videos and pictures it was impossible NOT to see the potential this boy has!

After at least 4 years in a small pen with others he still has a zest for life .. and loves people, oh and cats 😂😂!

He’s traveling to me (Anita) with no commitment to them .. but watch this space!!

Doica is on her way 👏👏.

This little girl has now begun her 3-4 day journey to the UK. This can be a frightening ordeal and sadly we cannot explain to them that it will all be worth it.

Doica was rescued from the streets after giving birth. Sadly, the pups were never found but at least she was safe and she was looked after by a wonderful elderly couple until she could travel.

She will now travel to Jacky and once she is settled and properly assessed, we will find her forever home 🙏🙏

As usual, we will keep you updated when she has arrived.

Thank you to everyone visiting our page 😊.

This is where we give information about dogs due to arrive, announce their arrival and post updates on their progress.

Along with local groups, this is also where we advertise them when ready and celebrate when they find their forever home 🥳🥳.

We do also have a group for adopters and followers. This is where we celebrate our gotcha days, but it is also open for you to post pictures and information about your dogs.

You are very welcome to join our group whether you are an adopter or not. The only rule we have is that we do not allow advertising of any businesses.

We really appreciate your support because without you the rescue work which we love so much wouldn't be so successful 🙏🙏.

Firework season is that dreaded time of year that every dog owner hates, not because we are killjoys, but because of the terrible effects it can have on so many dogs.

The first thing to say is that not all dogs are scared (one of our adopters dogs sits watching them at the window 😂). All dogs are, however, extremely perceptive and if YOU are worried or anxious, then your dog will probably follow suit.

Having said that, most dogs and people will jump at sudden loud noises, so it is very important not to walk your dog after dark during firework season because their reaction can be to bolt.

Here are some ideas if your dog is frightened of fireworks:

● keep your routine as normal as possible.
● mental stimulation such as play can sometimes distract them.
● if your dog enjoys being groomed or stroked, then this may help to relax them.
● reassuring your dog can sometimes be interpreted as you being worried and make them worse so keep your voice and actions as normal as possible.
● make sure they have a quiet enclosed space to hide if they need it. A covered crate is ideal.
● turn the tv or music up louder or use white music which can be soothing.
● some people find thunder shirts and caps help relax the dog.
● cotton wool in the ears can also drown out some noise.
● pheromone diffusers such as adaptil or pet remedy are useful but should be started before the event.
● herbal medication can be given and the ones containing tryptophan are usually most effective. Examples are nutracalm, yumove calming care and calmex. Skullcap and valerian tablets are another option which often helps.
● as a last resort, sedative or anti-anxiety medication from your vet but this should really only be used if all else fails and your dog is clearly suffering. It should also only be used in combination with the above otherwise it will not be effective.

Let us just hope that more people choose to buy silent fireworks this year or at least not the ones that sound like bombs!

Also spare a thought for wildlife and livestock who are affected badly each year 😢😢.

Amazing news! Freddy has his first forever home at last!!

He’s had lots of visits to his new home and family so he had a chance to really bond .. and he’s so happy there which I just love ❤️!

After a long series of disappointingly pointless enquiries which lead to long
conversations that went nowhere, visit appointments that weren’t met, and oh so many apparently ‘interested’ parties that disappeared into thin air 😥😥 .. only others in rescue will understand how dispirited I’ve been for this perfect little chap (because he REALLY is!) … and how totally overjoyed I am now!! I may have even had a few ‘happy tears’! 🥰🥰

Poor little Freddy! After over 200 👍s and ❤️s … he’s still received nothing but empty intentions and plans from people who’ve said they’d really like to see him .. but then seem to completely forget ..
and one experience that was so rude and disrespectful that I can’t even talk about it 😥😥💔💔.

Please would someone like to actually meet him .. or even be visited by him!

The reason we believe in fostering before an adoption is because we feel we owe it to the dog (and the potential adopter) to have the opportunity to create as near to a ‘perfect pet’ as possible. In some cases it can take quite some time. I have one here who sadly may never be adopted.

All of our dogs can be visited .. and indeed visit their prospective new home, as many times as you’d wish .. so that when they move in there are no nasty surprises for all involved, including the dog of course!

However, Freddy is one of the special ones who was ready within just a few days. The longer he’s been here the more I’ve got to know him and his lovely personality. He has only big ticks ✅ against his name … absolutely no ❌ . Whoever adopts him will certainly have no regrets!

Adoption fee is payable to Zaks LegacyFostering and Adoption .. and will
immediately be sent back to Romania so another dog can be prepared to travel to take Freddys place in my home. We are volunteers and do what we do solely for the love of these dogs.

Please text or WhatsApp me (as I don’t answer unknown numbers) on 07957-321462 if you’d like to know any more at all.

This is Doica and she is currently being prepared for the long journey to the UK to join the Zaks Legacy family 👏👏.

Champ's adoption meant that there was a space for this little one and if Freddy is just as lucky then perhaps there will be room for another 🙏🙏.

We’d just like to say a big hello, welcome and thankyou to our several new followers. Please do ask if there’s anything specific we can help you with or that you’d like to know.

Our ‘pinned post’ at the top explains the reasons why, what and how and is worth a read for anyone who hasn’t had a look yet.

Getting successful adoptions is so hard these days, for a variety of reasons, and we’re very grateful for your interest in us and what we love to do.

Poor little Freddy has been advertised widely .. and frequently. All of the ‘interest’ has just turned into nothing. He even had a meet and greet yesterday where there were two other dogs and he behaved impeccably (which is normal for him) in every respect. Expected to continue with another visit today … nothing.

Every time someone shows an interest in any of our dogs we become so optimistic and hopeful .. only to have it dashed when the person just disappears into the ether or doesn’t even feel it’s necessary to get in touch to say they’ve changed their minds. It’s just heartbreaking 💔💔.

Finding homes for our dogs is THE most important thing in our lives. Please be open and honest with us 🙏🙏

Today Champ went to his forever home 👏👏.

Champ's adopter recently lost his 18 year old dog Lily and felt the time was right to honour Lily's life by taking another little dog into his heart.

Champ took to him straightaway and they are a perfect match. We wish them both many years of wonderful companionship together.

Champ has been going for visits all week and as you can see from the pictures he is very happy with his new home 🥰🥰.

Jack update:

Jack still remains fearful of people, but there are slow improvements. He will now sit outside a busy cafe as long as nobody comes too close and I can now walk him up and down the High Street!

We are attending a training club purely for socialisation with people. On the first night, he did not even want to walk through the door, but now he walks into the hall with some degree of interest and curiosity!!

Yesterday, he was challenged on his walk, by a jogger who did not hear my requests to slow down due to the dreaded ear plugs! He was running towards Jack, who looked terrified but stood his ground. I called Jack and walked calmly in the opposite direction and he came running to me. What a clever chap!
