Timbo is one of our forever fosters. He is a feral dog who absolutely loves his life here. Despite all the space we have given him he still prefers we don’t touch him. And that’s ok with us. He has dog friends here. He often has access to the yard to enjoy the weather and sun bathe. He isn’t scared of us because he knows we don’t mess with him. So he is always relaxed around us. This is the quality of life we are excited to provide these under socialized dogs. A life on his own terms.
Our shelters are overflowing with animals. When shelters won’t let citizens turn in animals they resort to dumping them in the streets to suffer unknown fates. Euthanasia is a taboo subject. But when the amount of animals in need are greater than the homes willing to take them in…then you have no choice but to euthanize. I am not a fan of the no kill movement. It has lead to an immeasurable amount of suffering to animals in Houston.
I can’t even imagine what it would look like if we hadn’t cleared so many trees. The hurricane did a number to our land. Thankfully we didn’t have any structures out there yet. But a tree did manage to fall directly on our well pipes so we are hoping that damage isn’t too costly to repair. There are a ton of trees that need to be cut and removed scattered across the land. This hurricane is an eye opener. We are now not wanting any larger trees anywhere near our main home. That way we have a safe spot always for pups. But there isn’t much we can do when it comes to bigger trees not on our property. Hopefully this storm took out the weakest trees so we can be ok for a while.
Ziva showed up out of no where one day and all the neighbors tried to win her trust. You could see she had been neglected for a long time. Thankfully a little patience and some Vienna sausages changed her life for the better.
This is the progress we want our feral dogs to make. Timbo has been with several years. We cannot walk up and touch him or pick him up. He loves his dog companions and will easily share a kennel with any dog. He is calm and relaxed in the presence of humans. He stays close to the dogs and humans enjoying each day. He knows to kennel on command. He comes inside on command. He is one of the easiest dogs and has the space here to be himself on his terms.
Meet our new guy Tweezers. He was voluntarily surrendered due to past trauma. About 6 months ago they suspect that Tweezers ingested crack and he has been “off” ever since. He circles sometimes. And he growls randomly. He is only 5 lbs and the sweetest guy. As he growls he loves all over us. It’s like nothing we have ever seen before. Thankfully his growling is not aggression. Maybe it’s confusion or some wires got crossed in his brain. He is going to need a special home who appreciates his new way of communicating
Our new rescue cabin is being fabricated by @saddlebrookelife and we are so excited to see this moved onto the property. After the devastating tornadoes it’s become evident that we need a space to help other rescuers in times of need. Since the storms passed thru we have taken in 2 humans and 15 extra dogs affected. These people were without power and the temperature are so high right now. It’s been a tight squeeze but we make it work! Having this extra cabin on our new property is going to allow us to continue to helps humans and their animals when they become displaced ❤️
The thing we are most excited about our new property is being able to provide bigger enclosures for our feral pups. And give them more freedom to be outside whenever they want. We will be building smaller “cottages” for the fearful feral pups who are perfectly happy playing with their buddies while us humans leave them alone. They look scared here but when we see them on the cameras they wrestle and love on each other. Feral pups can make great pets if we accept them for who they are. They are not aggressive. They are often times VERY dog friendly
Alfie is the true definition of a fighter. He was attacked by other dogs while he was homeless on the streets. We had no clue the severity of his injuries until the vet took a look at him. He has a fracture in his spine. He also had a diaphragmatic hernia and a body wall hernia. His bloodwork was poor. He needed emergency surgery and a blood transfusion. This little guy trotted out of the ER like nothing happened. I can’t wait till he is fully healed ❤️
Guppy is working hard at his rehabilitation 3x a week. His ortho vet suggested we do physical therapy to give Guppy a better recovery and improve some mobility from all the trauma. He is a great little patient and everyone falls in love with him. He didn’t even make it to his foster home because one of the employees at rehab wanted to bring him home and continue helping him on this journey. He is just ridiculously lovable
Today we spent a few hours at @rosetherapeuticfarm and it was so great to meet all the animals ❤️
Octavia and Wren were abandoned at a park and living amongst all the trash. They were too scared of humans and had to be trapped
The update we have all been anxiously waiting for!!! Guppy is out of surgery and everything went well!
My husband has been trying to trap a tiny matted poodle at a park in Baytown for THREE nights. We have probably spent over 12 hours in our cars waiting for the pup to trap. Tonight was the lucky night! I missed all the action because I got home late from work. But thankfully I could watch our @reolinkcams and talk to my husband thru the camera. George had to show off his prize 🤣
You will never be criticized by someone doing more than you. You will only be criticized by someone doing less
Fluffy survived parvo. This is amazing news. Unfortunately she will not be returning to her owners due to financial hardships. I would typically help further but after spending $3,000 on treatment I feel like the bare minimum of preventions, vaccines and care should be provided by the owner. They are unable to do so at this time and fluffy is surrendered to our care. Loving a pet is not enough. Basics must be able to be provided for the well being of the animals.
This one gutted me 😩💔 (ps. She is safe)
