First mush meal at 5.5 weeks old. I get asked a lot why I start solids so “late”.. I go by what the pups and mom tell me. If mom is happy nursing and pups are growing and gaining steadily I don’t intervene. Once we get to the point where she isn’t producing enough milk or isn’t as interested in nursing is when I start the pups on solids. I am never in a rush to start feeding, it is more beneficial to the pups to nurse as long as possible to build up their immune systems and gain antibodies. Our ultimate goal here in Hillhaven Farm Miniature Dachshunds is to raise happy, healthy pups.
