Our Story

My Grandfather in Germany bred and worked dogs in An Der Rott, Germany. When we moved to the United States we had several GSDs and our father continued to work with local police. He actually gave away the rest of the dogs as pets, never having an issue finding them homes. It wasn’t until much later people wanted to actually offer him money for his dogs.

I went and served in the U.S military and witnessed the bomb dogs and it re-lit my love for the breed. I came home and told my wife that I wanted to follow my legacy and provide working dogs for people. My wife’s father is from Southern Illinois and had his own experience with German Shepherds. My wife had been trained in how to select the best of the litter for work. Her father taught her many sensory tasks, and nose work to see which pups can do what jobs, and which will need to go to pet homes. Together, we built our own kennel and I use kennel loosely as our dogs are all in our home.

Later, my wife started to have neurological issues, seizures, autonomic issues like balance. We had no idea a dog would be her lifeline while she learned her new normal. She also was diagnosed with a disease called Mast Cell Activation, where her mast cells attack her own body. We started to notice our dog Justice would come over to her and let her know she was going to go into a flare before it happened, giving her enough time once we figured out what was happening to grab the Epi-pen. Then one day our dog burst down the glass door to the shower, to save my wife who was about to have a seizure. At first my wife was startled and upset the dog burst through the door and broke the hinge on the shower but as my wife bent over the dog put herself behind her and I came around the corner and my wife began to have a seizure. Justice never left her side until her last breath at the age of thirteen.

Now, we use my wives seizures, and mast cells as both have a chemical change in the body and only certain dogs naturally pick up on these changes and we use the smell to see which, dogs are exceptional. My wife takes meds but still has flares of mast cell attacks and certain pups will take a special interest and you can see them smelling her hands and arms.
