Thyme earned her first two Rally Novice legs on Saturday at the Leonberger Club of America National Specialty! We had a blast spending the week in Virginia Beach with our Leonberger family.

This is Thyme’s sire, Rutger, back in 2019 at just over 9 years of age. Sadly we lost Rutger later that year. He was one in a million! Thyme has quite a few of his personality traits, and it’s so nice to see him in her. I miss this boy every single day.

Here’s one way to get your education on the Leonberger breed, but I recommend that you instead turn to the throughly researched and well-written book The Leonberger: A Comprehensive Guide to the a Lion King of Breeds written by Caroline Bliss-Isberg. Sit down with a cup of tea and immerse yourself in the fascinating and, at times, controversial history of the breed. Link in the comments to buy the book from Amazon. Trust me, it is worth the price!

Thyme and I did some carting practice yesterday; borrowing Bromley’s draft harness since hers is on back order. Thyme is a natural pulling the cart, following right along in her sire’s paw prints. Rutger was a phenomenal working dog and earned the first Leonberger Club of America Brace Novice Draft Dog, BNDD, title with one of my other Leonbergers, Dutch.

The temps were around freezing when we got up this morning and there was frost. The dogs have been playing for the last hour or so and have zero desire to come inside. They love the colder temps after the long, hot summer we had!

Ms. Thyme is our resident diva here at Gnome Terrace. She loves her comfort (notice the fleece blanket she’s about to take her afternoon nap on, on the couch)! She also loves to snuggle and give hugs and kisses.

Meet the boys of Gnome Terrace…Bromley & Oslo. Bromley is a 4 year old Leonberger, and I imported him from Denmark as a puppy. Unfortunately, Bromley has some fear-based behavioral issues, and, because I would never want to pass those along to another generation, Brom’s been neutered. I adore him, and he’s really helped me to grow as a dog trainer. Oslo is a 2 year old Newfoundland that came to me via a Newf rescue organization. Oslo is a hoot! He’s silly, smart and very cuddly. He is also neutered. Brom and Oslo will be fantastic “uncles” to all Gnome Terrace puppies.

Thyme met other Leonberger people yesterday (in addition to other dogs!). These were strangers to her and within minutes they were new best friends. This girlie has the best temperament!
