My shoulder isn’t wide enough! These three little hand-fed senegal parrot girls are healthy, tested, and fully weaned! They will be looking for good homes now that they don’t need me any more. Let me know if you know someone interested. These are the sweetest babies I’ve ever raised, they are so friendly and will go to anyone.

I had to share this, I’m so happy about it. When I got Willie she weighed 315 grams and was very sick. Her sternum bone was very sharp and pointed and she nearly died just from the move. The vet said a healthy weight for her would be around 400 grams, but it’s taken a long time to get her to gain anything. I recently noticed she’d gained, and weighed her and she’s all the way to 360! This is a really big deal! Her lungs seem clear, she doesn’t pop when she breathes, and her weight is up, and I’m so glad she’s doing well. It’s sure been a journey with this one! 🥰

Happy New Year! I hope this year brings you all good things. We’ve been busy over here, doing our best to keep everyone happy, and so far we’ve succeeded! The bird room has a TV now, since they can’t go outside, and Oliver’s favorite word from the Disney movies is “HELP!” 😂
We haven’t had room to take in or foster any emergencies, but we have been able to help about ten birds this fall either find a good home or get directed to whatever help they needed, like boarding, vet care, or pigeon rescue.
I’ve been contemplating where to go from here, honestly. I considered starting a legit rescue but I stink at fundraising and vet care is expensive, and if I do it I want to do it well, which we can’t afford right now. I looked into becoming a licensed aviary, but I’m not business minded and it would probably sink us like so many small businesses have done to others since 2020. So for now, The Furry Glen is just going to stay what it is, one little girl’s dream of growing up and having a room just for my animals, and doing what I can to help others as I raise tiny things and take good care of what I already have. I’m just a mom with a bird hobby, which was what I always wanted, and I’m ok with that for now. When we can we’ll expand, but probably not this year.
Hazel hatched a baby lovebird today. I’ll try to get pictures but it’s her first and I don’t want to freak her out. I’m so proud of her, and she’s so proud of her baby. The future is bright, and the birds are happy. 🥰

My Christmas present this year is getting Chuckles to finally say “I love you!” 🥰 She said it so loud and so clearly my daughter heard it from the living room. My goodness, I love this bird.
Willie is exceptionally happy today. 🥰 What a sweet, pretty bird.
I am so excited about the bird room divider! The little birds can’t bother the big birds, Angel can’t bite the little birds, Chuckles can’t reach Yoshi, and everyone will get to be out of cages all winter long. The kids won’t have to be scared of the bird room if Angel is out anymore. 😆 The aviary has a few finishing touches left, I have to put another layer of wire, and then this year’s projects are finally done. Hopefully it’s going to be a peaceful winter in the bird room! 😁
I don’t know what it is about conures and fountains, but Echo sure loves hers. 😁
Taxi wants to be friends and Willie isn’t as sure but they are getting along! Willie has really been missing Ellie and Oliver is less of a friend than a cranky husband sometimes to Taxi. 😂 I really want this to happen!
Learning to grow things was on my to-do list this year. The aviary is still waiting for the patio door, but Willie and Angel seem to be content to watch me gather herbs for drying in the greenhouse. ☺️ As long as Angel doesn’t learn to pick my veggies I think it’s all good. 😆
I am super excited about finding a blue and white lovebird while out of state this week! Hazel and his little friend Pearl are very young lovebirds adjusting to life at the Furry Glen. I couldn’t break a bonded pair so of course I had to get his little friend too. 🥰
Willie is being super snuggly this morning. I have things to do but I’m making my coffee last because Amazon cuddles are the best. 🥰

Peaches is doing amazing, he and Echo have become friends and last night he preened my hair for me while on my shoulder. Not bad for the first week with a shy bird, I’ll take it. ☺️
I lost Ellie last night. 😭
It hurts. Her illness was quick, and even with antibiotics and all the right meds as fast as possible, it wasn’t enough.
I don’t know much about her past, but I know she was in poor health when I got her. She never got to the point where I could touch her, but she loved being sung to and laughed whenever I did. She would tell you she was “such a good girl” right before she lunged at you.
Willie is going to be lost without her, and I’m going to be lost without my little “laugh track”. I’ll start laughing again at some point, and when I do it just won’t be as much fun. 🥲
I’ll miss you, Ellie.

One of the things I dread about spring is nail trims, particularly with my big birds. Taxi was so sweet yesterday, and I was able to get every one of her nails all in one shot. She only complained a little and was so happy after. This bird is a complete gem. I’m hoping removing her old nestbox while I put her new one together will help her with her constant “bed-head” look. 😄 She will always be a plucker but I couldn’t ask for a sweeter bird. 🥰

I journal, usually when I’m stressed. You know what doesn’t help? When your daughter’s bird decides you’re done, walks onto the keyboard, and starts biting your fingers if you touch a key. 😂 Not exactly the stress relief I was looking for… 🤣
Baby parakeets are ready! Princess and Cloud make the BEST sky blue colored babies! These little guys were hatched in January and are still too young to tell genders. They sing pretty like their daddy, he taught them all his best songs. ☺️ They will land on my hand but are fully flighted, they will likely be flight clipped soon for hand training. Let me know if you need to add a flash of powder blue to your flock!

Angel is very happy about her bath. “I love you!” I’ve also heard “have a bath”, “such a good girl,” “pretty girl, Angel,” and lots of kissy noises. 😂

I wanted to give an update on Jimmy! I had many, many inquiries about him, and took my time finding an experienced, loving owner who will give him not just his best life but also his best future. Jimmy will soon spend his days in a screened in, sunny porch in Florida with a macaw friend named Charlie. His new family is from Maine but moving to Florida soon, and he will live his best life! Not gonna lie, I’m a little jealous. 😂 Caring for this beautiful bird was such a gift and an honor. 🥰

Watch Jimmy start to come before I call him over. He is very food motivated, and he has been taking treats gently both in and out of his cage. I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made just since Friday. He’s a sweetie.
Taxi found a bowl of nuts, spilled the bowl, threw it on the floor, then did this. 😂
Princess’s last baby fledged but still can’t fly, so it sits on the bottom and demands to be fed. 😂 I’ve put the baby back several times but it just wants to be out where it can yell at Mama for food. Typical last child. 😂
Remember the scene in Jurassic Park where Owen meets Blue again and they aren’t sure exactly what’s up, and with one wrong move Owen will die? That sums up my relationship with Rikki perfectly. 😂 He’s in the cage this morning because I’m cleaning and I don’t want to die, but he still loves me. If I looked away for a single second in this video he would make me bleed. We have a…special… relationship. 😁 I love this little 🦖.
“What? (Whistles) Christine! Oliver! I love you, Oliver.” He only talks when I’m not in the room, so it’s hard to get videos of it.
Willie is singing this morning instead of just screeching at Daddy for a bite of his breakfast. Progress! 😁 She does not really prefer Daddy but she does love his food, and demands it whenever the poor guy sits on the couch. 😂
The bird we had to chase all around the store just came to me all on her own. My heart can’t take it. What a baby bird. ❤️
