Sheila Taylor - Equine & Sports Massage Equine Massage, myofascial release, cranial sacral therapy
Sports / On-site massage for the rider. treatments and workshops available

Equine massage is the manipulation of soft tissue to release physical and psychological stress and tension. Treatments will vary depending on the need of the horse from gentle energy and balancing work to deeper sports massage. Regular massage will help your horse cope with the demands of work, tack, injury and conformation and prevent the build up and tension and the development of compensatory m

ovement. Sports massage for the rider benefits both the horse and rider. By targeting the muscles used in riding, it eases discomfort and hence prevents transference to the horse and it having to make compensatory movements . On-site seated massage is great if you are short of time and space, quick and easy to set up and performed fully clothed. Swedish massage techniques release muscle tension and the use of acupressure energises the body in only 30 minutes,
As a qualified adult tutor I am offering introductory equine massage workshops so that you can help your horse cope with the demands put on it, learn to recognise areas of muscle tension and when to call a professional and best of all form a strong bond, build trust and confidence through positive touch.
*Please note veterinary consent is required for equine massage treatment. The horse should be in good health with no signs of illness.

so I've not posted for a while but its been a busy few months meeting lots of new horses and their amazing owners - I often hear owners stating that they love to see the magic happen - so what is the magic? Magic happens when the horse feels safe, trusts, connects and allows itself to relax and release physical and emotional tension, some horses slip straight into the magic releasing and relaxing at the smallest touch, others may be a little more suspicious and dip in and out to test how it feels and then some fight and resist the magic but they usually slip into it at some point. Once the trust is built the horse will engage and guide the treatment relaxing and releasing - lowering their heads, softening the eyes, chewing, sighing, yawning and stretching - I love it xx

So here we are again, plans on hold, unable to do many of the things we enjoy, trying to find the positives:
* More time to prepare and improve, to be so ready for when you can follow your dreams
* Time to work on fitness, the fitter and more balanced you are, the easier it will be for your horse to do what you are asking.
* Time to learn something new, I've been learning about Infrared, pilates and biomechanics
* Lots of time to spend with your besties ❤️🐴
Anyone got any more to add to the list?

Massage is so important for young horses, not only does it build trust and help prepare the horse for vet and farrier visits, it releases any tension in the muscles when tack and rider are added and helps the muscles adjust and cope. Lots of horses ask for a scratch at the end of a treatment, think I'm going to need a ladder when this lovely boy stops growing 😃🐴

Always lovely to start the day with Bob the cob, not your regular easy, hardy cob but a sensitive soul who has been through some tough times, regular treatments help him with his physical and emotional well-being ❤️

Muscle overload due to overuse or trauma can result in the contraction and intense shortening of a portion of muscle fibres, this results in the formation of a trigger point. The clip below shows the local trigger point response (twitching) when pressure is applied to the trigger point. Application of massage and stretching the muscle will aid recovery and lengthen the muscle fibres and release the trigger point

Great morning to be inside massaging, met a couple of lovely horses today who both loved some gentle cranial sacral therapy. Cranial sacral therapy helps to release postural and emotional tension in the head and face. Left untreated cranial sacral malfunction can result in compensatory locomotion, uneven muscular development and structural misalignment as well as emotional imbalance. The cranial sacral system connects the horse's head to the tail, so tension at one end can create a line of tension and compensation creating restrictions right along the horse. Cranial sacral therapy is a powerful, gentle non- intrusive form of tissue correction enabling physical and emotional releases and relaxation.

Really enjoying being out treating horses again, as a holistic massage therapist I love how every treatment is so different as the layers of physical and emotional tension are released. Guided by the horse treatment can be massage to release muscle tension, myofascial work to release restrictions, cranial sacral therapy to balance emotions and healing to balance energy or a combination of these, ❤️ being lucky enough to do this xx
