🐾 Entering a shelter can be a stressful and overwhelming experience for a stray dog. It’s disorienting and frightening. Imagine being taken to a strange and unfamiliar place without any explanation.
Dogs usually feel confused and scared when entering a shelter. The unfamiliar surroundings, smell, and sounds can trigger anxiety, fear, and stress. The presence of other dogs in the shelter also cause anxiety and fear, especially if the dogs have not been socialised with other animals before.
In some cases, dogs show aggression due to fear and anxiety. They may bark excessively, growl, or bite if threatened or overwhelmed.
Hayot Shelter staff work hard to take steps to make the dogs feel more comfortable. Providing a quiet and calm environment, offering treats and toys to distract and comfort the dogs, and giving them space and time to adjust can all help.
Over time, many dogs will adjust to their new surroundings and feel more comfortable in the shelter. They even become excited when they see shelter staff or volunteers, as they come to associate them with positive experiences and attention.
In conclusion, entering a shelter can be a daunting experience for stray dogs. However, with patience, understanding, and proper care, dogs can adjust to their new environment and find comfort in the shelter. Let's all work together to ensure that all dogs in Hayot shelters receive the love and care they deserve.
