MOZZIE!!

Yellow Dood - now part of the Thompson family was selected first on puppy pick day and was the first to go home. 😊💙

He is doing amazing and getting along with his older 🐶 brother James.

The plan was for Mozzie to possibly spend some time with us at the end of September while his parents went on a short trip, but clearly Zion had other plans and we unfortunately were not able to take care of him after all. 😅

PART 4

Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024

8 AM - We arrived at the hospital and I felt like my bladder was going to explode. It had been hours since I last emptied my bladder and I physically couldn’t. With every contraction I could feel the pressure of my full bladder. As soon as we were admitted the OB checked me. OB agreed with my midwife’s assessment. No change and they would be starting me on pitocin to help my uterus start contracting more often again. They gave me the epidural, emptied my bladder and started me on pitocin. They said, “take a nap and in a few hours you’ll be ready to push.” So, we all took a nap.

11 AM - I had just woken up from my nap, our nurse and 5 other people rush in. She says they can’t hear baby’s heart beat and will be rushing me into an emergency c-section. They flip me on hands and knees and inject me with something to elevate my heart rate in hopes that it will also elevate baby’s heart rate. Ricky wakes up from his nap with all the commotion and has no idea what’s happening. They are asking us to sign consents and practically rolling me out of the room. Baby’s heart rate comes back on the monitor. Everyone breathes. No need to rush me into the OR anymore. They check me again and still no change or progress. The OB allows me to continue waiting to see if there is any change, they insert a monitor to monitor contractions to see how strong and effective they are. They advise that if by 6pm there is still no change that next steps would be a c-section, but we still had time to make progress and they continue increasing the Pitocin. We continued to try different position changes with the epidural in hopes that baby’s position would change.

8 PM - OB comes in to check me again. No change. I looked at Ricky. We both knew what that meant. It was not an “emergency” c-section, but it was our only remaining option. It was time. We agreed to a c-section. Signed the consents. they prepped me and off the to OR they wheeled me.

12 AM - Our baby boy was born. I had full panic attack from all the anesthesia, so I passed out immediately after he was born. Ricky did skin to skin and after a few minutes of coming back into my body I met Z.

PART 3

Saturday, September 21, 2024

Midnight - No baby.
1 AM - No baby.
2 AM - No baby.
3 AM - No baby.

You get it, hours later of laboring at home, different changes in position, walks up and down the stairs, catheter to empty my bladder and no baby. My midwife had checked me a few times and I was still 7 cm dilated, same station, same amount of cervix. No change. I could see the sun rising and I was beginning to get impatient. We were supposed to have a baby by now. I was supposed to have at least dilated a bit more in that time, but nothing. Nothing changed. Baby was on the right, OP with its chin possibly untucked and neck slightly slanted to the side… baby’s head/position was not putting enough pressure on my cervix to move us along. My contractions were spacing out. They were now about 10-15 minutes apart, I hadn’t had any food and was continuously throwing up for hours. My midwife said my body was tired. I kept telling her it and I wasn’t. 😅

However, we were on a clock and it was becoming apparent that my labor was stalling, which was not a good sign.

5:00 am - my midwife with a heavy heart recommended we head to the hospital. I cried and stubbornly pushed back. I didn’t want to abandon our home birth plans, but it was a strong recommendation because the longer I stayed at home, the higher the risk of infection. She also expressed that my body and uterus were tired and the hospital could help get my contractions back on track to possibly help baby. I reluctantly agreed, knowing that this was what we had to do and was best for me and baby. She called the hospital, let them know we were coming. While I continued laboring in the bathroom. They cleaned, Ricky packed our hospital bags, installed our car seat (all things we hadn’t done, because we thought we had time and were not planning on “coming home from the hospital”) and we all very calmly caravanned to the hospital a 45 min drive from our home.

PART 2

Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 continued

6 PM - We arrived at the midwives’ office. After a non-stress test to monitor the baby, I received my first cervical check: I was 3 cm dilated and the baby was low. We left excited, knowing I was in labor and progressing. No need to abandon our home birth plan.

7 PM - As my contractions ramped up, I called my doula to come over.

10 PM - This is where things get fuzzy and my times might be slightly off, but my midwife and birth photographer arrived. I was already 7 cm dilated. We, especially I, was very excited because that meant I was moving along fast and baby could be here soon. At one point I remember thinking or maybe hearing someone say we might have a baby before MIDNIGHT. I thought to myself, “I got this…Wohoo!”

I moved through the contractions from the toilet, the shower, the bed, the pool. I walked, swayed, rocked… “just breathe and move,” I kept telling myself.

My doula, midwife and Ricky all taking turns holding my hand, giving me counter pressure and reminding me to breath. Ricky fed me crispy mangos between contractions. I would randomly get nauseas and ask for the trash because I needed to throw up. The cycle continued. Contractions were close, strong and regular. I was in active labor.

Only a hand full of you knew this before hand, but we had planned for a home birth.

Before I got pregnant, I knew I wanted a home birth, surrounded by midwives who knew me personally and valued a holistic approach, while still recognizing when hospitals might be necessary. I also planned to hire a doula for support and a birth photographer to document the day we became parents. Ricky sort of knew this, but once we were actually pregnant, he needed a little bit of convincing.

What I appreciate and love about Ricky is his trust in me; he agreed to keep an open mind and meet with the midwives. After consulting with both an OB and the midwives, we decided that a home birth would be our Plan A, while ensuring a healthy mom and baby remained our priority for Plans B - F.

Here’s our birth story: from home birth to C-section in a long 43 hours from my water breaking to Zion being born.

PART 1

38 Weeks + 3 days

Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 - 5 AM

My water broke. We called our midwife, who instructed me to use an amniotic swab from the birth kit we had received a week prior. The swab turned black, confirming my waters had broken.

Since my waters broke before labor started, I had 24 hours for my body to go into active labor on its own before we would have to abandon our home birth plans and head to the hospital for antibiotics to prevent infection. My midwife advised us to go about our day and regroup at 6 PM for a check on the baby.

Ricky went to the gym, while I made some last-minute returns at Target and picked up a pump for our birth pool (which we had picked up the day before). By the time I left the store, I felt mild cramps that came in waves. I called my doula, who suggested this could be the beginning of labor. Ricky had a few work appts., so he headed to work. I continued going about my day and took a nap.

4 PM - Ricky returned home. I was still not in active labor but was definitely feeling regular contractions, and with a few hours to spare before our 6 PM appointment, we decided to go for a hike. We walked our 2-mile trail, experiencing regular but mild contractions. By the time we finished, my contractions had intensified.

Today we received the sad news that Tamarit, purple collar Doodette from our very first litter crossed the rainbow bridge last night. 😭💔

Today we hurt with her family. They are devastated by this accident.

Tamarit was so spoiled and loved by her family from the day she got picked up. She has a little human sister and doodle brother who love her very much and are missing her dearly today.

Tamarit was our first and only unfurnished doodle. She was sweet and loved humans just like her mama Demi. She was her human’s soul dog.

Hug your Doods extra tight today and help me send her family virtual hugs and extra love today to get them through this tough time.

Rest in peace sweet girl. 💜🐾🌈

It’s been a little quiet….because this dude decided to crash his Doods bump photoshoot I had schedule for us. I wanted to recreate our announcement pictures with the bump, but he had other plans. 😅

He surprised us and decided he was ready to join the gang.

Welcome to world bud! ☀️💙

He has not met the gang yet, but he will soon! Can’t wait to watch him grow with so much love from the Doods.

Puppy heaven gained an angel yesterday. 🐶🐾🌈

We are so heart broken.

Coco mamas was fun, spunky and just had so much love to give. I’m fortunate I was able to love her and give her the best life in the short time she was here. 💙

Capturing the group picture is a love-hate relationship! 😅

I love having a group picture of everyone before they leave us, but it’s the picture that takes the most work, time and effort, and sometimes I only get one shot at getting it.

I always want to it to be perfect. Reality is, they are not always perfect. It takes hours to “set-up” and at the end of the day, someone is not looking at me, their bow’s are off to the side, or not every one is in focus. 😅 I try to not to harp on the details I don’t think are perfect and just focus on the fact that it’s a group picture and memory for all of us to have of what this litter was about.

So here it is… the imperfectly perfect group photo at 7.5 weeks!

These group shots are a beautiful memory of our journey together, imperfections and all. Here’s to celebrating every adorable, fluffy face and the joy they bring!

P.S. Take the picture, because time flies and you’ll love looking back at these not so perfect shots.

Happy Doodle-hood! 💙

32 Week Bumpdate!!

Time is flying! We are still feeling really great! 😊🤩 Now in the third trimester and the belly is officially in the way. 😅

All of the puppy hugs and kisses have kept me sooo happy! It’s so funny to see them jump on the belly to get to my hair or face for attention. 😅😆

Baby G will be here in plus or minus 8 weeks!! That’s sooo crazy to think about, because the last 8 weeks with these Doods have just gone wayyy too fast. Puppy pick-ups are next weekend! 🫢😆

We still have 4 doods available, so let’s help them find their forever besties before I pop. 😅💙

28 Week bumpdate!

July has been a busy one!

We recently hosted our friends and family for our baby shower, that was sunshine themed. ☀️ I’ll post some pictures of that here soon. 😊 We were showered with so much love! 💙

We also took our maternity photos (no doggies), and I’m just patiently waiting for the gallery.

Stone, Demi, Sezz and Brisket are all doing really good! The puppies are growing and we can’t wait to meet our future Dood families tomorrow for puppy pick day! 🎉

We will have a few puppies available after tomorrow, so if you may be interested, I would recommend completing our puppy application on our website to get the process started! 💙
