Training don’t stop✋even on Christmas Day🎄
Blu has been exclusively on lead for around 4 weeks now (season recall selectiveness shall we say)
So we are building her recall back up! Here we were practicing crossing roads. Blu’s cues are ‘wait’ to stop immediately. ‘Okay’ is her release cue, and ‘yes’ is her reward cue.
Notice I didn’t use her reward cue in this instance- why? She didn’t immediately stop on her wait command. I did reward her by saying good girl, I liked what she was doing but I did not reward with a high value treat as it was not perfect. The next road we crossed she waited immediately and guess what- hot dog reward!!!! 🌭
She will be 100% off lead again in no time!

Welcome to Paws Teens🐾
Zooooooom 💨💨💨
Let’s discuss collars/harnesses/haltis - where do you stand?
I am asked by a number of owners per week, about loose lead walking. 9 times out of 10- they say to me that their dog is on an anti-pull harness but nothing works? They may also have their dog wearing a harness and a collar and two leads all at the same time…
Harnesses were originally designed to enable sledging dogs to pull sleighs, for horses to be able to pull carts (do we see where I’m going with this?)
There are particular breeds who I would recommend wear a harness (flat faced breeds) due to the potential effect on already suppressed airways by collars.
That’s not to say that loose lead walking can’t be taught while a dog is wearing a harness (like in this video!)
But if your struggling with your pup pulling- it’s maybe worth a think🤔 we want our dogs to respond to lead pressure but this has to be TAUGHT.
If your struggling with loose lead walking- get in touch📩

Mr ‘pulls on his lead’ 🤨
One to one session for this handsome boy who was pulling on his lead… I don’t know about you but I’d say he walks beautifully to heel on his lead😜😜

Loose lead walking🐾
Here is an example of loose lead walking- I am able to walk my dog using one finger. Can you spot where I corrected her? And did you spot how she changed her lead pressure following my correction?
If you are struggling with loose lead walking, we can help!
Can you walk your dog using just one finger?

🐾Puppy walks🐾
Here we have handsome Coal- a 15 week old lab pup- on one of our puppy training walks. These walks allow us time to train, expose pups to new places and environments and to socialise them. This was coals first session with us.
If you would like to book your puppy into one of our puppy walks- get in touch📩
