Tiffany - cute, petite 3-yr old girl, looking for her forever home. She needs an experienced, dog savvy owner as she can be dog reactive. In a quiet, controlled setting she is so sweet and so happy to be with you.

If you would like to learn more about Tiffany, or better yet, you want to meet her (she is currently being fostered in San Pedro), please fill out an adoption application: https://www.sunnysaints.org/adoption-application.html

*BONDED PAIR FOR ADOPTION*
Remember Bronx (half mask) & Brooklyn??? Y'all were amazing in helping us to get these guys pulled from the triple digit temps of Central California and treated for infection, hair loss, foxtail removal, etc.

They have now been given a clean bill of health, are neutered/spayed, fully vaccinated and ready to find their forever homes.

Their foster parents absolutely rave about these special angels and have said the following:

Bronx:
Cuddle bug to the max
Stares lovingly into your soul
Mellow demeanor
Rarely barks
does "happy yawns"
Chest rubs are his FAVORITE thing on the entire planet

Brooklyn:
Sweet as pie
Favorite time is playing/rough housing, but does calm down
Loves anything water (drinking/playing/baths)
Barks sometimes when new people come in the house, but redirects and warms up quickly
Loves head/ear & belly scratches

Both:
House broke & will stand by the door when they need to go out
Thrive on attention
Treat & food motivated (not aggressive or possessive of food)
Love wearing bandanas
Crate trained
Come when called
Great with kids, in public, in the car, other dogs

They are currently being fostered in Southern California. If you're interested in learning more about these two awesome dogs or if you want to adopt, please fill out an adoption application at: https://www.sunnysaints.org/adoption-application.html

Just wanted to let y'all know that these two are still available at Pasadena. Falcon can be dog selective so would be better in an only dog home unless he can be adopted with Bucky.

This Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Pasadena Humane from 10a - 2p you can go to their "clear the shelter" even when they waive adoption fees.

Waggin Wednesday - Lila!!! Alumni from 2017 (then & now)

Thank you again Rifkin family and for sharing! We really love the updates. Here is what Miss Lila had to say:
-----------------------------------------
Hi Sunny Saints! My name is Lila and I am an alum who was originally rescued out of Compton, CA with a bad skin condition. Now I am a thriving senior living in the valley and enjoying 2+ mile long walks every day and playing with my younger smaller sibling until we both fall asleep in the grass. During the holidays I walk in the dog parade and wear a sign that says "Adopt don't shop!".
-----------------------------------------
REMEMBER send your Waggin Wednesday alumni update to [email protected] we would love to hear from you!

Xylitol (also known as Birch sugar or wood sugar) could be deadly to dogs.

Foods that could contain Xylitol:
- sugar free gum
- breath mints
- baked goods
- cough syrup
- children’s and adult chewable vitamins
- mouthwash
- toothpaste
- some peanut and nut butters
- over-the-counter medicines
- dietary supplements
- sugar-free desserts, including "skinny" ice cream

Why is Xylitol Dangerous to Dogs, but Not People?

In both people and dogs, the level of blood sugar is controlled by the release of insulin from the pancreas. In people, xylitol does not stimulate the release of insulin from the pancreas. However, it’s different in canines: When dogs eat something containing xylitol, the xylitol is more quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, and may result in a potent release of insulin from the pancreas.

This rapid release of insulin may result in a rapid and profound decrease in the level of blood sugar (hypoglycemia), an effect that can occur within 10 to 60 minutes of eating the xylitol. Untreated, this hypoglycemia can quickly be life-threatening.

LONG POST:

We are at the point where we have been getting posts from well-meaning people that are getting MAD at us for not saving more Saint Bernards. We say we cannot save them if we don't have any fosters available to house them.... then to be told that "you always say that", "you're not really a rescue", "you only take owner surrenders if you take any", and some others that aren't very nice at all.

All untrue by the way, especially the comments telling us that we don't pull from shelters. So, last week, we listed some dogs that were/are in shelters that needed rescue. Thankfully most were adopted or pulled by other rescues. Here's the thing, we got TWO new foster applications. We also got a couple of people saying they'd put in foster applications before, but nobody contacted them. We apologize for that, and we will be reaching out to you soon.

Sunny Saints is a volunteer-based rescue. We do not have a facility, therefore the ONLY way we can save animals is by having Fosters, Transporters and even Evaluators. This is no excuse, but there have been several internal changes over the past few years and currently we are restructuring and trying to regain the momentum we had pre-COVID, we are also trying to get things in place so we can be more efficient and ultimately save more lives. That unfortunately does not happen overnight, nor does it happen on a whim.

We get people who fill out applications to foster, or even adopt, then we go to contact them, and we never get a response, the email bounces back, the phone number is incorrect/disconnected, or the foster is not in California (we do adopt out of state but our fosters need to be in state) This is frustrating and a waste of time, not only for those who fill it out, but for those of us who are trying to contact you.

Right now, honestly, we are just putting band-aids on things. A dog comes to our attention, and we do what we can to get that animal assessed, finding a foster willing to take on the animal (not all are in great shape when they come to us), or maybe the dog isn't a good fit (some dogs need to be the only dog, some fosters have small children and a big dog with minimal manners isn't ideal) getting the animal from point A to point B, coordinating medical, etc.... so what this means is if we reach out and don't get a hold of anybody, then we move to the next person (if we have them), often times, we have multiple animals at once, so we're scrambling and don't always get back to people quick enough for them, so they write us off, or quick enough for the dog sitting in a shelter and they get euthanized, or quick enough for an owner that's known for weeks they're moving and can't take their under socialized dog with them so they demand rescue takes them IMMEDIATELY or they dump them somewhere in the country to fend for themselves, at a shelter, or they abandon them in the very home they live in.

Please be patient with us, Please help us to save more, Please be sincere when you fill out the foster application, Please even volunteer to assist with screening foster and adoption applications, if you have foster experience but currently not able to foster, but you can transport, help another foster with expectations, by being a mentor, we could use those too. If you have dog experience and can evaluate dogs so we can find the right foster... we need that too. Please know we are doing what we can to get better. Without you, there would be no Sunny Saints.

Hey Sunny Saints supporters, we have a couple of bonded, sweet girls that will be spayed and available for adoption soon.

We DO adopt out of state. You just have to come to California to meet the animal and provide safe transportation to their new home.

Hey Sunny Saints Family ... Charlie is making his appearance for Waggin Wednesday! Back in 2018 he was first posted on our pages as a new foster... and today he is living large and loving life! Here is what he has to say:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Howdy Sunny Saints! My name is Charlie and while I am actually a Leonberger I am so very thankful to Sunny Saints for rescuing me when my original family had to move to a non- dog friendly residence. I now reside in Los Angeles and enjoy morning belly scratches, laying in the grass for hours on end, and cuddling up on the couch with my mom at bedtime.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to his amazing family for adopting as well as the awesome foster who took him in.
We need more alumni pics to keep Waggin Wednesday going... please submit pics and brief message to: [email protected]

Please, if you can foster, fill out a foster application at: https://www.sunnysaints.org/foster-application.html

If you can't foster, then please share and let's work on getting this boy out of the shelter and on the road to a new life.

UPDATE: THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!
Have you seen Bonnie & Clyde? They are a pair of bonded Saints that are currently at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar. Recently Rocky Tanaka featured them on his YouTube channel.

We would love to have them become part of the Sunny Saints family, but we do not have any experienced fosters available that live in California, can take two big dogs, have a secure yard, and preferably no other animals (these two need more socialization)

These two arrived at the shelter about mid-July, both of them had dirty ears and matted. Clyde had bilateral ear infections, saliva staining on his paws, and a hot spot on his front left paw. Staff had a difficult time examining Clyde’s mouth as he does not seem to like his muzzle touched. Bonnie and Clyde have since been groomed and did very well for the entire experience. The staff says they've been really sweet with them.

Please, if you can foster, fill out a foster application at: https://www.sunnysaints.org/foster-application.html

If you can't foster, then please share and let's work on getting this pair out of the shelter, on the road to recovery and a new life.

If you have filled out a foster application, are in California and haven't heard from us... please reach out in messenger and/or email: [email protected]

UPDATE: THIS BOY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!Hey Sunny Saints friends and supporters - This boy needs rescue, but we cannot even CONSIDER taking him as we have NO fosters available. We need fosters in California (with a secure yard) that are willing to open their homes to help get dogs like these a second chance at life. If we can get some foster availability, we do a further assessment & possibly get him pulled from this shelter in East Valley.

This boy is underweight, has abrasions on both ears (we only are sharing the one that isn't as bad as the other) most likely from scratching so much. He has hair loss, and his skin is in bad shape due to flea infestation and flea allergies.

Please, if you can foster, fill out a foster application at: https://www.sunnysaints.org/foster-application.html

If you can't foster, then please share and let's work on getting this boy out of the shelter and on the road to recovery and a new life.

Hey Sunny Saints Family... this week's "Waggin Wednesday" is brought to you by Colby Jack! He is the brother of Chief, who we have currently available for adoption.

This was sent to us a couple of weeks ago, so he's a little older now, but growing fast and loving life. We are so appreciative of updates, we love them no matter how long they have been in their new families.

This is what his new mom says about him:
--------------------------------------------------
This is Colby aka Colby Jack

Chief is the only puppy left from our last rescued litter and he is hoping with all his heart that he will have a family to call his own very soon.

He's got it all, stunning good looks, a calm personality ... he's just too cute to not want to take home with you.

Bella is a 2-year-old St. Bernard. She loves having lots of fun, other dogs, and her stuffed animals... she will carry them around with her a lot.

She walks pretty well on a leash but can be one who likes to stop and "smell the roses" as she does have a curiosity about the world. She would do best with an active family or in a home that has another dog her size and enjoys playing.

Please go to our website to see some more info about her, you can also fill out an adoption application at https://www.sunnysaints.org/adoption-application.html

Who remembers the litter of puppies we dubbed "League of Their Own"?

This week's Waggin Wednesday post is about one of those pups! Isn't is great to see when they're all grown up and had a chance at a life??

Here is what Tilda's owner said about her when they wrote in:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Tilda (formerly Kit from the League of their own litter) is our second Sunny Saints. We adopted our first Saint from you in 2012 when he was two. Percy was perfect and we enjoyed ten years together (he was 140lbs so not a small guy and he lived a long healthy life to 12+ years).

Tilda is a dainty 85 lb Saint Ber-Husky mix and she helped us heal after losing Percy in 2022. Her favorite place is our cabin in the mountains where she enjoys long hikes and the snow. At home in Long Beach she is known amongst friends and family for her hugs - she sits patiently and waits for someone to hold out arms. Then she stands on her hind legs, hugs and nuzzles her face against you. She loves to be vertical where she can be eye to eye with the humans, especially Matt (her person).
----------------------------------------------------------------

Keep these updates coming, if you've adopted, please email [email protected] we would love to hear from you and hear how our alumni are doing!!

Buckey is ready to have a home to call his own. He is a gentle, loving soul who gets along with other dogs but is perfectly content to be an only dog.

He walks well on a leash, rides well in the car and is super sweet. How can you resist those amazing freckles?!?!?!

If you would like to know more, you can check out his profile on our sunnysaints.org website and please fill out an adoption application at: https://www.sunnysaints.org/adoption-application.html

This week's alumni is a world traveler living in Amsterdam since April of 2022! She was 10 years old when her family moved to Amsterdam. Miss Pixi adapted quickly, from flying across the ocean to waking up her first morning with a "Spring sprinkle" of snow! This is what her mom says about her:
-------------------------------------------------
This is about our sweet Pixi that we rescued February 14, 2012.
She is the sweetest, best girl. We moved from California to Amsterdam April 2022, our girl has been on all our road trips with us. She loves the car and all her slow walks and sniffs. She is doing so well for her old age. She is always with us, and we would not have it any other way. Attached are pictures of her Euro life 💖
You know what they say… Who rescued who? She is my forever favorite.

We here at Sunny Saints are so happy that you are a part of the Sunny Saints Family. We couldn't save any of them without the support of our Adopters, Fosters, Transporters, & volunteers.

Thank you!

COURTEOUSY POST!

The German Sheperd Rescue of Orange County has an adorable 5–6-month-old female that they would love to get adopted into a furever home. After doing a DNA test on her, they were surprised to find out that she is HALF St. Bernard, so they reached out to us to ask if we would mind sharing her information and we of course could not say NO! So please go take a look at this sweet puppy at https://www.gsroc.org/dogs/jabari/

Hello Sunny Saints Family... just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your generosity and support of Bronx & Brooklyn.

They are doing much better, no longer outside in crazy HOT temperatures, they are experiencing new hair growth after the horrendous flea infestations they had, foxtails have surgically been removed from BOTH dogs feet (Brooklyn had foxtails in ALL her feet), they've been spayed/neutered. Now it's antibiotics, good food, and healing that's required. They should be cleared for adoption soon.. and we could not have done it without YOUR help! We are so appreciative.

Brooklyn is approximately a year old, was 83 pounds when we got her, currently she is 86 pounds. Bronx is a little over a year old, weighed 113 pounds on the day that we got him and currently he is weighing in at 121 pounds. They are a fairly bonded pair, they are adjusting to living indoors and get along great with their foster brother Hank. We look forward to giving you more information on these two in the near future. We could NOT do any of this without you, thank you so very much.

Congratulations to Eileen Christensen on her adoption of Diesel, now named Colby Jack! He was hand picked by the whole family. He's a beautiful pup & we can't wait to watch him grow. He's adjusting well to being the only pup & getting lots of attention. He makes friends wherever he goes & his favorite place to sleep is the cold walk in shower. Happy Waggin Wednesday! So glad you are here!

We absolutely love getting these updates from our alumni family (anybody that's adopted from us is an alumni family!!)

This week's awesome pup is LADDI. Here's what her family says about her:

--------------------------------------------
My husband Will and I adopted Laddi (Misty) from Sunny Saints on July 1st, 2017. Her 7th gotcha day is coming up soon! Her foster was Christy.

In the last seven years, Laddi has had a ton of fun! She came to work with me at Illumination Entertainment and appeared on the special features for The Grinch and Secret Life of Pets 2. As a younger dog, she was an avid hiker, making her way through trails all over Southern California and Tennessee, where we moved in 2020.

Because I work remote, Laddi gets to take a lot of road trips, which is great since she LOVES being in the car. She's been to Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan to visit friends and explore the scenery.

Things got a little hairy in 2022 when Laddi was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg. Luckily, we had an amazing team of veterinarians and lots of support from our friends. But after an amputation and chemo, she's 100% cancer free and doing amazing on three legs. We don't hike like we used to, but she keeps an eye on the nine chickens on our farm and is currently awaiting the seven new chicks as they grow and join the flock.

Laddi makes friends everywhere she goes. We're so grateful to Sunny Saints for rescuing her and bringing her into our lives.

I've attached a few pictures of her.

Thanks!
Samantha

Congratulations to Jeff & Carly Edmonds on their adoption of Tank, now Woody! He has an older Saint sister named Willow to help him settle into his new forever home. He's such a beautiful boy & has a very laid back attitude. He enjoys spending weekends in Big Bear with his family & has already graduated from his puppy obedience class. We wish Woody all the best in his new fabulous life! ❤️🐾

A huge Thank You to our foster Shaun LeClerc for taking in a litter of 7 puppies at a moments notice. Helping us get them vetted, giving them the TLC they desperately needed & so much more. We are so blessed to have you in our Sunny Saints Family. 🥰😇
