For anyone thinking of getting a dog. Here’s some of the biggest mistakes the average dog owner makes. I think many dog trainers will agree:

1) getting the wrong dog(breed, energy level, etc.)for your lifestyle and ability

2) giving the dog or puppy too much freedom too soon inside the home

3) not starting training day one

4) not exposing the dog to the outside world from the start

5) thinking socialization is meeting every dog and human under the sun

6) going to A dog park

7) getting another dog for your dog

Just a few things but there’s plenty more. To be honest, I know it’s job security for all of us but I’m so sick and tired of seeing people get dogs they shouldn’t have not doing the things they should be doing and doing things they shouldn’t be doing.- Larry Khrone

It's almost the 4th! These are my top tips for a safe and successful holiday. BUT if you are only going to do one thing, PLEASE DO NUMBER 4. So many dogs go missing on the 4th. When dogs are scared they will flee at all costs. Keep your dog inside, crated or otherwise contained. This is the number one day of the year where pets go missing.

I love this lady! She is spot on! We just had a class about this topic and it’s so relatable

I get the expectation of perfection, I really do. For so long that was my goal...perfect dogs. After a lot of frustration and many tears, I realized that this is not realistic.

After raising and teaching children, I would never expect them to get to a point where I would say, "ok you're good, you're never going to make another mistake." Seems crazy to think about!

My dogs are well trained and still do dumb things. I'm a good person and still screw up. But the awesome thing is, we get to keep trying. Mistakes just provide information. They let you know where you can be better. You don't have to get down on yourself. Your doing the best you can with the information you have and so is your dog. We all have hard days and there's bunnies, lol. ( I know this from personal experience.)

So we are going to keep pushing forward being perfectly, imperfect! It's actually kind of liberating.

Remember, you're doing way better than you think you are and if you need a reminder, I'm here and in your corner.
