Our lovely donations from @sendhamstermail
We just want to thank you again for making Hamster Info Ireland charity of the month for May. These donations go such a long way in providing our fosters with enrichment!
Please note, these babies were 6.5 weeks old when this was filmed, they were not ready to be separated individually.

VANILLA’S STORY
Vanilla’s story started as many do: a small pet store missold 2 Syrians in 1 cage. 54 babies were produced in total due to this unethical practice – the owners weren’t aware the hamsters were opposite sexes. Unfortunately, things only spiralled from there as the pet shop refused to offer much help or support for splitting the babies or figuring out some plans.
Sadly, out of the final litter of 10, 4 babies had the eyeless white gene, including little Vanilla, which is caused by breeding two incompatible Syrians together. This meant that these babies were born blind and deaf, and they also showed some neurological and behavioural symptoms. This was when the desperate owners turned to us for help.
Vanilla came to one of our trustees Tina alongside his eyeless white sisters, Sugar, Frappe, and Latte as permanent residents. Hamster Info Ireland decided that the four special little snowballs needed to remain in our permanent care due to their specific needs and prognosis.
Eyeless whites have a typical lifespan of 9-12 months, so sadly the ladies have all passed away, but little Vanilla is beating all the odds and is still a busy, happy little hamster.
Donations to Hamster Info Ireland help us care for the really special cases, like little Vanilla here.

🐹 RAIN'S STORY 🐹
Many of our rescues are very straightforward cases, where their owners were just ill-informed about proper hamster care but always met their most basic needs. But others, such as Rain, have much more difficult backgrounds.
Rain and his friends Forest, Cotton, Lavender and Bloom were a very complex multiple-intake situation. Sadly, their owner just wasn't able to meet even their basic needs, despite loving them all very much. When we rescued Rain, he was in a tiny little cuddle bag with a small mesh window on the side.
Despite being with us for 6 months, little Rain hadn't found a home of his own, unlike all his intake mates. Rain deserved to have a more permanent setup than his foster home, so our Chairperson Sophie built a lovely new lid for the glass tank he was given and adopted him herself! Rain now has a gorgeous rainforest-themed enclosure that is packed with enrichment and colour - perfect for beautiful Rain and his colourful personality!
RESCUE HAMSTER HIGHLIGHT
⭐ LAVENDER ⭐
Lavender is a stunning female Syrian hamster with the most gorgeous coat we've seen in a long time (so soft and shiny! 🤩✨)
She was rescued from a situation where she was receiving very poor care. When she first arrived she was a sleepy little girl who was happy to hide away in her burrows. Perhaps used to having no enrichment in her previous home...
Not anymore!! Lavender now LOVES human interaction and wants nothing more than to spend lots of time with you. She loves her treats (as you can see from the video!) and is very happy to come out for playtime and cuddles in the evening. She's such a sweet girl and we think she would make a fantastic hamster for someone new to hamster keeping.

⭐ WANDA ⭐
How cute is little Wanda!!! Wanda is an adorable Russian Dwarf (hybrid) and currently our only female dwarf hamster available. She is approximately 5 months old.
Wanda was taken into the rescue alongside Cosmo the Roborovski (housed separately) after the children in their previous family lost interest.
As you can see from the video, Wanda is very food motivated. She has come on in leaps and bounds with her taming, thanks to her fosterer who has done so well getting her used to being handled. She no longer nips, and is always wanting to come out and play.

⭐ PRINGLES ⭐
Pringles is a Russian Dwarf (hybrid) and is one of our longterm residents. He has been at the rescue since last May (almost one year!) making him our second longest foster hamster after Romeo.
Pringles is approximately a year and 4 months old, so he's really in the prime of his life. He was taken from a situation where two hamsters were being kept in the same tiny enclosure. Sadly Pringles' cage mate had been sold by the time we got to him.
He has an inquisitive personality and loves to explore his enclosure and check out any new boredom breakers he has been given. He will always come out to say hello when he knows you're nearby.
Pringles was very overweight when we took him in, weighing a huge 76g. It took a long time to get him to a more suitable weight but he's doing quite well presently at 58g. His new owner will have to keep him on a very strict diet with not too many treats or edible sprays in the enclosure to try to keep him in a healthy condition.
The type of home we need for Pringles is a quiet, calm home. His previous family had children and he developed a habit of biting. For this reason we feel it would be unfair to rehome him to a family with young children who will want to hold him and play with him. He is fine to be scooped up gently with cupped hands but he does tend to nip when approached from the front - most likely thinking fingers are food!! He tends to be calmer while in his enclosure with familiar surroundings, whereas he can get a little stressed when in a playpen.
Pringles will make a lovely companion for the right person and we'd really love for him to find the perfect forever home. If you'd like to apply to adopt Pringles, or any of our rescue hamsters, please visit our website: https://hamsterinfoireland.ie/available-for-adoption/
