If anyone is able to help Meghan directly. I will put her Venmo and Paypal in the comments below.
UPDATE from Meghan🚨
The surgeon said that Honey did good in surgery. The small intestine luckily wasn't too bad since we had caught it early. They spayed her & will culture her urine.
We'll get twice daily updates from Cornell starting Monday.
She's eating well this morning & may come home tomorrow. They'll prescribe some meds to try to keep her from chewing her legs. It's for any tingling or neuropathy she may have in her legs that bothers her. They see amputation as a last resort. I ordered some dog body protectors for her abdominal surgery wound & will use both a donut collar & an elongated e-collar I'm working on.
I just don't want her to have to wear a cone her whole life. We'll try various things like we did for our other dog. She's going to be a challenge, but she's a sweetheart.
ORIGINAL POST🚨
So for those of you who have been following Chance’s🖤🐾♾️ page-he just had a new sister join him, who was sponsored by Red Rock Rescue and her name is Honey- unfortunately Honey had to be rushed into emergency surgery last night. Here is the text I got from her new Mom who is also Chance’s 🖤🐾♾️ mom.
Unfortunately, Honey needs emergency surgery tonight for ingesting bandage material, despite wearing an e-collar that I modified to make longer, trying to keep her from pulling off her paw/leg bandages & eating them.
The original paw wounds were healing nicely, but she started chewing up higher like her leg was a piece of fried chicken.
Some bandage material is stuck in her small intestines & wrapped around, so she will die if she doesn't get the surgery since it can't be expelled out of her intestines.
The vets had said they can get a taste of it & obsess over it since they can't feel or bite their legs if they tingle. She has chewed through canvas medical leg protectors & even the drag bag. We hate to have her live her life in a large cone constantly.
So, she's getting the bowel surgery tonight & will also get spayed. There's a higher risk of anesthesia issues due to her being heartworm positive. Heartworm treatment was supposed to start this Thursday, but may be delayed.
The surgeons will also discuss possible double hind leg amputation to prevent her from the endless cycle of chewing her legs, needing bandages, & possible future bowel obstructions. This is an estimated surgery of $4000 to $6000 at Cornell.
