Friends of Odin:
A couple of weeks ago Odin was diagnosed with cancer after his yearly routine vet check-up and blood test (thank you everyone at Windan' Sea Veterinary Clinic). He was referred to Dr. Arnell and surgeon Dr. Fryer at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital for treatment (who have been equally wonderful).
After more blood testing, X-ray and ultrasound imaging they identified 3 tumors associated with his parathyroid glands. He had surgery last weekend to remove the masses and is now back at home. He recovered well from the surgery, however, his blood ion levels didn't stabilize as quickly as they had hoped. But, his most recent blood test (yesterday) was looking better and by next weekend they hope to be weening him off his current medication.
Fortunately, he is back up and about and isn't showing any outward symptoms apart from shaved skin, some sutures and sporting a natty surgical sock around his neck. It's been tough trying to make him rest this past week! Hopefully he'll be back to 100% very soon.
