Our newest dog trainer in training, Ella, wanted to remind you to keep your leash loose! This prevents tension and sending the wrong signals to our dogs.

Calmness can be felt down the leash. Send your dog calm signals by having some slack on the leash!

What things have made your walks more peaceful?

Fireworks are right around the corner!

Tips:
Start playing fireworks on your home speakers and gradually increase the volume while you do your normal, daily tasks.
Make sure pet collars are properly fitted! Martingales are great.

** For evening bathroom breaks keep your dogs on leash to be safe.

Update microchips

-if you have space in your home, contact your local shelters and ask if they need assistance boarding any cats and dogs.
This is the time open shelters make room for the potential lost pets that will come in. Save a life by fostering and keeping your pets safe inside!

Welcome Bella!
We have a new puppy joining our family! Bella lives in a home with lots of kids and she is lucky they are putting in the work to help with training!
I don’t know about you but I’m excited to watch another fluff ball grow into a well mannered adult!

So proud of Enzo!
Enzo and his family have come such a long way! From a hyper-active dog not making the best of choices, (hu***ng 🤦🏽‍♀️ and snagging the remote controllers for fun) to sitting calmly in a group of kids!! Now he has more freedoms being off leash and enjoying a conflict free life!!

Welcome Mr. Sage to the Get Heeled Family!
Sage is a large, energetic 8 month old that pulls his owners down the street during walks. He gets excited when passing other dogs and sometimes can cause a scene. His owner reached out to work on his overall obedience and resource guarding issues at home.

He has already shown tremendous improvement and I’m excited to watch his continued progress. Let’s go Sage!

Enzo Update!
Enzo has been working on calm in the house and out on walks.
He is doing great heeling and focusing with distractions. He used to pull towards other dogs while out and about.

He just did a big move across the country and we are fine tuning obedience and house manners in his new setting.

This spunky pup is joining GH for help with setting boundaries and basic obedience! Navi’s mom is a teacher so it was no surprise they sent me videos of their homework the day after session! 😉

Welcome Nuka!
Nuka is joining our GH family to learn how to relax inside and outside the home. She struggles with leash reactivity. We are reworking the process of going for walks so they are more enjoyable for her and her family.
I’m excited to watch Nuka gain some calmness and confidence! Her owner is really dedicated and excited to make this transition!

Welcome to the GH family, Baron!

Baron is now living with Jasper (previous client). We worked on games to build on focus and drive to make training even easier down the line. We have started leash manners and teaching heel position.

Creating a solid recall means your adventures just got better.

Recall does not happen over night. In fact, it takes many nights and days of training with the leash ON.

Unhooking the leash prematurely is the BIGGEST mistake you can make.

If you have to repeat commands to your dog it means either
1: The dog doesn’t understand the meaning behind the word/command

2: The dog has now learned the command doesn’t mean anything anymore.

Either way it’s time to go back to basics and teach the true meaning and make it fun!

Olivia- the husky couldn’t wait to announce the arrival of our newest Get Heeled employee.

It has been amazing spending time with this two legged cutie but we are excited to get back to work soon.

We had a great in person session with Lady today!

We focused on building her confidence to sights and sounds and her dog and people reactiveness.

Lady is quick to learn! Once she realized her owners were her advocates, she relaxed and was less on guard.

So proud of how far she has come and how much work her owners put into her! It shows 😉

Playing focus games with your dog is not only fun but helps reenforce calm behavior and unprompted eye contact!

Start with a piece of kibble and move it up to your eye. As soon as your dog makes eye contact mark “yes” and reward. Repeat. Once your dog is consistently making eye contact you can now give it a command. “Look” mark and reward!

Here is Gracie showing off her calm focus skills! She is in our puppy obedience program. Way to go, Gracie!
