Dr. Bebbington recently treated a beloved canine patient for a life-threatening condition called a pyometra, highlighting the critical importance of spaying pets.
Pyometra is a severe infection where the womb fills with pus, posing risks such as kidney failure, toxaemia, dehydration, and even death if untreated. Emergency surgery to remove the womb is often the only solution.
Though commonly found in older, unspayed females, any un-spayed dog can be affected. Early signs can be subtle but watch for excessive water consumption, frequent urination, lethargy, and uterine discharge. In advanced cases, fever, anorexia, and collapse may occur.
Sterilization is a preventive measure that can save your pet from this dangerous condition. We urge pet owners to consider spaying as a step towards safeguarding their pet’s health. Remember, early intervention can make all the difference. 💙🐾
