Tricks n Treats Trick told me he needed his own page. He said he is a Rockstar, since I call him one regularly. We both love going FAST!!!

Trick is an un-registered 45inch tall American Shetland pony born in 2011 who was rescued by our family as a just 2 year old in 2013. He started his time terrified of people and now absolutely adores being around them especially kids. Trick started driving in summer of 2020 and we are most at home when trail driving through the woods and fields. Many of the videos and pictures you will see are of

us at Trick's home stable near Madison, WI. He lives in a perfect pony environment having fields, hills, woods and ponds to run in with the rest of his herd before coming into his stall each night. He is a special pony who seems to truly connect with the people around him whether it be running wild, driving, going to events, or doing some of the tricks he is fond of showcasing.

Stil recovering from Villa Louis Carriage Classic this weekend but incredibly proud of Tricks n Treats we placed in all of our "games" classes against incredible competitors. I am amazed to have done so well our first year at this prestigious event.

I'm most proud of that maroon "honorable mention" ribbon in the carriage dog class where my mom, Trick, Gizmo and I all got to compete together as a family.

Put Trick's conditioning to the test tonight.

We managed 5.5miles in just over an hour, even spent the last half mile walking in to cool down. Trick was definitely at the point of starting to lag and was more tired then I would like to see. He would never make it 12miles so we have a ways to go to hit our 12mile endurance time in 2 months. I think if the weather and luck holds we will be there.

A quick drive in our BRAND NEW show harness using the pretty wood road cart on a JUST paved road. Trick did amazing I'm glad I can feel safe throwing so many new things at him and never have to worry.

It finally arrived today. Tomorrow Trick gets to try it on. And yes that's brass and leather. Ugh I'm dreading the clean...

Sounds like we got about 3 inches of rain in 9hours last night. For reference this outdoor arena didn't have any standing water in it yesterday and just had some soft muddy spots. It's up probably close to 3feet from yesterday. When will it stop?!

Been using these Heritage gloves I bought from IVC Carriage about 3 years now and I finally got a hole in them. The leather us still good so I'm sewing up the busted seam. I bought a NEW pair last year for showing but want to keep my work pair for my daily driving.

I am so so so in love with this picture Melissa Marie photography took of me and my Trick on Sat. We have been working for almost 18months on contact and collection and lifting that shoulder and driving from behind and for the first time ever I have a hood picture showing we are FINALLY getting there. Training the right way and not just setting his head is finally paying off.

And the final standing includes 2 blues in obstacles and cones with the 2nd fasted cones time, no balls down, of everyone which is impressive considering he refused to extend his trot. I'm so proud of Trick.

Final standing was 3blue, 1 white, 1 yellow. And best yet it was one of the funnest shows I have ever attended. Incredibly well run and a great group of people. I'm looking forward to the clinic tomorrow.

Obstacles and cones yet to go.

Trick had an almost perfect run I'm working. He really aced it with the working extended and collected trot, and was doing well in Reinsmanship until we had a driver error bumped the wall and he had trouble getting his focus back. I'm so proud of him.

Trick is washed and braided. Hopefully he doesn't rub the braids out tonight. Early morning for the show tomorrow.

Can I just say WOW my dishwasher did an AMAZING job of cleaning my biothane pony harness, even the mud encrusted belly band.

Hardest parts was tetras fitting everything in so it wouldn't impede the washer and remembering to turn off the steam dry function.

And yes it's getting a wash cycle with bleach. Probably the cleanest it's ever been.

Happy GOTCHA DAY to Trick.
11years ago today we decided to keep him and make him part of our family and I have never regretted that decision.

He's 13years old in July and finished at 45in tall at the withers and roughly 350lbs. He does lots of tricks, wears costumes, and is an amazing driving pony and best boy. He still likes carrots but thinks mints are great to and he still thinks running is the best thing ever.

At age 2 he weighed 150lbs and was 36in tall. He loved carrots, kids, running and was the kindest animal considering he was terrified of people and had just been brought out of a dark stall he could not see over the sides of and hardly ever got outside. He still fears/has flash backs to people walking in his stall grabbing him around the neck and manhandling/throwing him on the ground and sitting on him. He still reacts strongly and fights to the brink if you attempt to force instead of asking him to do something. I am so grateful he trusts me like he does and makes my pony time amazing.

Ok so apparently Trick will not be wearing a fly mask while he wears a grazing muzzle. His current method to get hay into the muzzle is to stick his nose in the bale and root side to side like a pig. Which apparently works as he keeps doing it however it also weaves hay into his fly mask and since even going back to a finer mesh isn't helping and I'm worried about him poking his eyes he will be going without. I'm sure he's happy but will also be complaining about the flies and having his head fly sprayed.

Oh what fun we had on our Sunday Drive. These are my two favorite clips showing a wide array of things we encounter on the trails there. And Trick very much knowing we are heading for the trailer. I guess I NEVER have to worry about the way home because the pony knows!

It felt AMAZING to get out on the trails today. We even climbed a tree. Well a fallen tree but still a tree. I even had to get out of the cart to help trick maneuver it over. Love my rockstar pony!

While I'm really greatful for the rain, I am missing the nice fall driving weather now that Trick is feeling better. I'm pretty sure he is missing it too. Video from earlulier this week. And don't ask me what he was doing with all the head shaking. I'm guessing his hair was tickling his ears. 🤣🙃🤪

I don't think we will EVER give up our VanderVeen cart but I did get this one for an amazing price and will need to practice with it some. Poor Trick does NOT like the narrow tires in the deep sand. And a lot heavier to pull than our little 40lb VV. Builds some good muscle and I'll have to practice outside.

Great pony drive today 7.55 miles in 1.5hrs. We are not quite at the conditioning level we need to be at as while we managed it he was too tired when we were done. Aim is 10miles in 2hrs without being real tired or sweaty at the end. It was perfect weather 68F breezy partly cloudy. Just a little rain and gusty wind at the end. If you listen close you can hear the rain in the tree canopy and the wind front come through. Fitbit map path and time in comments for anyone curious? Yes I use my human fitbit to track my pony drives and progress. Lol

First try at an endurance drive this past weekend. Trick did amazing his driver took a wrong turn and got us disqualified. It was still a great day for a drive.

How about a beautiful cool down walk around the pond tonight. What a gorgeous sunset.
