Sampling our first batch of Blackberry Cordial! We’re waiting on bottles, but the recipe is ready, the blackberries are ripening, labels are on their way... available soon!

This particular glass of cordial and soda may have a touch of gin in it. 😉 it is sooo yummy. Half an ounce of cordial is all it took!
It is delicious and just the right Saturday afternoon drink 🍹

I’ve heard about chicken math, but never fully understood it, until now.

We wanted 3 laying hens. That’s it. We picked up 5 adorable straight run chicks first. It’s looking like 3 are roosters. Then we inherited 5 lovely laying hens. Today we picked up 2 RIR year old hens, and now we have two roosters to rehome. What does that equal? We still need a dark brown egg layer, another Lavender Orpington, a Wyandotte, and a Silverdud. That right there is chicken math. 🤪

Photographed below is this mornings haul. The original 5 (2) should start laying in the next few weeks.

A pod of Orcas visited the farm yesterday! 🐳

Today Dr. Andrea Plaxton, and her assistant, Shannon, from Epona Equine visited the farm. Missy had her regular vaccinations and she had her teeth floated. She also had a little blood drawn to be sent away to test her mineral and vitamin E levels.

It was a very big day for little Herbert. Poor little man was castrated. His tiny, but very mighty body resisted the drugs... it took a lot to keep him down! He had his vaccines and a quick hand float on his teeth, before long, he was up and ready to move again. He’s now (supposed to be) resting in the barn for the night. He doesn’t love being locked up, he may be a bit noisy tonight!

It was also a great home schooling day. My girls had a great biology lesson, and learned a lot about horse anatomy. Neither of them want to be vets. Serena couldn’t stay to watch, she doesn’t like blood. Hayden stayed and photographed it all. She found it very interesting, and was very mature about it all, but does not want to cut into anything, ever. All in all a good day on the farm.
