You guys, Our Easter Eggers might start laying soon! The cold weather will probably delay it a bit, but every time I check the nesting boxes I get so excited.

Good Sunday morning friends! 🖤Just wanted to share how cute my Ayam Cemani were being this morning! 🖤Mama Prue’s eggs should be hatching in a couple of days, I can’t wait to see a mama Ayam Cemani with little black babies. Do you guys think of a new week starting on Sunday or Monday? I tend to think it’s not a new week till Monday.

Our new chicks , buff orpingtons to change up the flock and due to their docile nature and good egg laying qualities, they already are much sweeter than the first batch was at this age , now we have 11 chickens total & we will be building another coop and bigger run in the upcoming weekends !

Our Buff Orpington chicks are happy and adjusting well to their new home! Buff Orpingtons are a fluffy, show-worthy breed known for their calm disposition and heavy laying. We can’t wait until our new flock is old enough to free range the farm!

Best birthday present ever? Meet Lemon, Mango, and Mocha. I’m very happy to have buff orpingtons in our flock again and the cuckoo marans was an excellent surprise. They’re all very social and sweet.

🌿We have a black copper marans early hatcher! A whole 24 hrs early. No one else has even pipped yet. So until then, the little monster is stirring up the eggs🌿in this incubator. FYI this is an Incuview., which doesn’t hold a lot of eggs but you can see them hatch beautifully - holds 27, easy to clean, and excellent hatch rates.

These were all of my favorite eggs I collected this week! I have one or two black copper marans hens that lay such dark eggs (maybe 8s on the marans scale?). The problem is they only lay like one egg a week IF I’m lucky. I hatched all of the eggs I could from them this year. The goal is to have a small flock of marans that lay that color. The first round of pullets is due to start laying soon, so as soon as I see if they lay a decent color, I’ll start selling again! (From top row to bottom row: black copper marans, olive eggers, wheaten marans, easter eggers, ameraucanas, lavender orpingtons).

How cool is this green!? I’ve had this color green only one other time a long time ago. You may remember if you’ve been following along for a while. 💚

Egg Color Genetics 101:
Breed a Black Copper Marans or a Welsummer rooster to a pure bred blue egg layer. Then breed their light green egg laying daughter back to a Marans or Welsummer rooster, to get a darker shade of green. Your generations are called F1, F2, etc until you reach the desired green you’re after. You can also cross a blue egg gene rooster with a brown egg gene hen to produce an Olive Egger as well. Have fun with it!! 🤣
