What started off as a kick in the teeth turned into an opportunity to share our mission. I discovered graffiti on our shack today. I'm not sure why anyone would want to vandalize a shell of a building in the middle of the woods, but my brain doesn't operate that way. I felt sick and defeated. I decided I should report it and at least get the advice of the sheriff's office. I called and the two officers that came out were both veterans. After showing them the damage and giving them my statement, I was able to share our mission for the rescue. They were both very supportive and asked for cards to share at the station. As much as I hate that someone trespassed on our property and defaced our building, it brought our story to two more sets of ears.

Update on Delphine... we had her transported to TN Equine Hospital in Thompson Station. They are giving her fluids and trying to re-hydrate her, but the vet does not seem hopeful. I have two wonderful volunteers, Macie Burd and Vanessa Petronelli , who have been with her all day doing all they can to help her feel safe and loved. I tried to go down there to be with her, but within 10 minutes of arriving, Julie called to inform me Duke had tried to jump the fence from the front pasture to the pasture behind the house. The on call vet came out to patch him up and we are now waiting on the hauler to pick him up to transport him to TN Equine Hospital. No visible breaks, but some deep gashes near his rear left hock that may be cause for concern. Early indications are Duke should be fine.

We had a super special visitor to Boudreaux's yesterday. You may recall seeing Audriana sitting on Buddy last year as she celebrated her 6th birthday with her family. We were truly honored when her mom reached out to us two weeks ago to see if they could come back for her 7th. Percy and Duke gave her all the nuzzles and nibbles, and were rewarded handsomely with an abundance of carrots and alfalfa. Audriana has Rett Syndrome (RTS), a rare genetic mutation affecting brain development in girls, robbing them of their muscular coordination and speech. Audriana's love for horses is palpable, and they get her. Watching the non-verbal exchange of affection between a 1,200 lb horse and a child is a unique and powerful experience.
