The puppies are 8 weeks old today and are now all home with their new families. We are so proud of their progress and are excited to see their new adventures as they explore the world with their new families.
Congratulations to Ben Fox (with Suki) and Andrew and Angela Greene (with Skipper) on your new little loveable bundles!
Meri is remaining with us as our newest golden family member. We love her bunches and are happy to be her forever family!

This week we do not have weights for these pups, but we know the girls are both over 12 lbs and Skipper is likely around 11 lbs, give or take.
Here are some pictures of these pups with their families. We look forward to sharing more of their adventures when possible in the months and years to come.

These puppies are 7 weeks old today and getting ready to go to their new homes in the next week. In honor of this approaching milestone in their development, my sister who is a photographer and owner of Fox Photography did a mini photo shoot with them for this week's post. They are scrumptious!
The puppies know how to chow down some puppy food and are experts at rambunctious play. They have a grand time with each other and are the stars of the show with any human visitors too.
Now that they are 7 weeks of age, we did the puppy aptitude test with them to gain additional insight into their individual personalities and temperaments. This confirmed some of our suspicions and expanded our understanding in some enlightening ways too. The information we gained will be shared with their new families in order to help set them up for greater success in tailoring training approaches to their puppy.

This week the puppies all exceeded the weight capacity on the little kitchen scale we have been using so far. As a result we do not have weights exact to the oz, but we do know approximate weights from our big scale.
Green girl (Suki) ~11.5 lbs
Blue boy (Skipper) ~10.5 lbs
Yellow girl (Meri) ~11.5 lbs

We are excited to see these puppies continue to develop and look forward to seeing the new adventures they embark on with their new families!

6 weeks old today! These puppies are full of energy and such busy bodies. They love to play, explore, and love human interaction. They are mischief makers, but so loveable. They are eating fully dry puppy food now, in preparation for weaning soon.
Next week we will do the puppy aptitude test and gain a bit more insight into each puppy's personality.
Today's weights:
Green - 9 lbs 8 oz
Blue - 8 lbs 13 oz
Yellow - 9 lbs 5 oz

Just a short time longer with us and two of these pups will be off to explore and learn with their new families. We are excited to see them continue to grow and develop!

Puppies are 5 weeks old today! They are definitely in full on puppy mode now. Playing, exploring, and creating all sorts of shenanigans. They enjoy time on the lanai each day and outside exploring the backyard. They have discovered the fun of playing in the shade of our Areca palms. Those old fronds on the ground are rustle-y and such fun to bite, paw, and drag around. Mulch, grass, pebbles, sand, and concrete are all interesting novel surfaces to walk on too.

Green girl - 7 lbs 10 oz
Blue boy - 7 lbs
Yellow girl - 7 lbs 9 oz

This next week the pups will finish weaning and be fully on dry puppy food and will make more leaps and bounds of developmental growth as they learn to socialize with both other dogs and humans. Love these little balls of furry fun!

Puppies are 4 weeks old today. They have had a big growth spurt in the last week and have made a lot of developmental progress. They are romping around the pen wrestling, playing with toys and playmates (canine and human), eating mushy puppy food, and love exploring. Their exploration is widening beyond the puppy pen to include other parts of the house, the lanai, and the backyard so far.
They are keeping us busy, but are tons of fun and it's a joy to watch them grow and develop.

Green girl - 5 lbs 13 oz
Blue boy - 5 lbs 6 oz
Yellow girl - 5 lbs 12 oz

We're halfway through their time with us and there is much development and puppy shenanigans ahead!

The puppies are 3 weeks old today! They are now entering the all important and exciting socialization period which will last through 12 weeks of age. They now have their senses in basic and developing form. They are scampering around their newly expanded pen area outside their whelping box. Each one has successfully climbed out of the box into the pen. Thet have had their first dewormer treatment and will have their first dog food mush meal this week.

Today's weights:
Green girl - 4 lbs 5 oz
Blue boy - 3 lbs 12 oz
Yellow girl - 4 lbs 4 oz

There is much fun to come as we watch them play, learn, and explore together!

Today the puppies are 2 weeks old! Their eyes are opening, they are sniffing and mouthing things, and they are now taking their first wobbly steps around the whelping box. They are all healthy, growing well, and cute as can be!
2 week weights:
Green girl - 3 lbs 2 oz
Blue boy - 2 lbs 12 oz
Yellow girl - 3 lbs 1 oz

This coming week is the transition period in their development, during which they develop their senses (sight, smell, hearing) and begin exploring their world. Much fun and lovable shenanigans ahead!

These puppies are 1 week old today and they are growing fast!
Here are today's numbers:
Green girl weighs 2 lbs 1 oz.
Blue boy weighs 1 lb 10 oz.
Yellow girl weighs 1 lb 14 oz.
They are getting cuter by the day and we are excited to see what week 2 brings!

Meet our 3 dumplings born yesterday. In birth order: Miss green, Mr blue, and Miss yellow. (Placeholder names to use for the next 2 months before they go to their forever homes)
They are off to a great start!

Cassi has successfully delivered her litter of 3 healthy puppies, yay! She has done such a wonderful job and has had the best attitude through it all. She is already a top notch mom too. Now that the pups are all here, cleaned, and nursing she can finally rest. We are so proud of her!
Puppy #1 is a girl weighing 1 lb 3 oz.
Puppy #2 is a boy weighing 14 oz.
Puppy #3 is a girl weighing 1 lb.

We now can say with some certainty that Cassi is expecting a litter of 3 puppies. While this is not as many as we were hoping for, we are grateful they seem to be progressing in a healthy and normal way.
Cassi is due to bring these pups into the world a week from today on the 11th. We are hoping for a smooth and healthy delivery for her and her pups. There is no telling what the gender split will be, so we'll find out next week.
It's almost time!

Exciting news!
This morning Cassi had an ultrasound and she now has a confirmed pregnancy. The number of puppies was not able to be determined at this stage. She is at about the midpoint of her pregnancy, on track for an estimated whelping date of May 11.

If you are interested in a puppy from our planned litter this Spring, now is a good time to begin preparing by reading up and planning for a smooth transition for your family. We recommend the following books to aid you in this process. We have found them to be very helpful to our family in raising our dogs and we continue to use these resources as a reference routinely.
First, The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete. This book is a great overall guide to all aspects of puppyhood to ensure a good start for your puppy. You can find answers to most common questions in this book.
And second, The Art of Training Your Dog also by the Monks of New Skete. This book is wonderful for teaching you how to train your dog using a modern gentle E-collar. This allows for greater connection with your dog and greater freedom for your dog.
The authors are experienced breeders of German Shepherds based in New York and understand the kind of close relationship we strive to cultivate with our dogs.

Grab a copy of one or both of these books and arm yourself with knowledge. Better preparation leads to a more enjoyable process of bonding with your puppy!

Last week Cassi had 3 successful breeding ties with Pete. Assuming a healthy and typical pregnancy, we estimate her litter whelping date to be around May 11; puppies going to new homes at 8 weeks of age around July 6.
Below is a picture of Cassi from her puppy days. We are proud of her!
Deposits for puppies will be due to secure a pup in May at/after whelping. Full balance will be due at puppy pick-up in July.

This week Cassi is visiting the stud dog for the breeding. Meet Pete, pictured below. He was very excited to meet our Cassi and we have high hopes for the pups that result from this breeding. Exciting news!
Cassi, is now in heat and will be bred this month to a great stud dog with an extensive background in field hunting and competitive obedience work. We are excited about the future for this litter and will soon begin talking with prospective new families for the puppies. If all goes well, the puppies will likely be ready to go to their new homes around the end of July.
