This little fella’s mom bought a Pound Puppies gift card in a silent auction benefitting a rescue group in New York!
I live in Southern Mississippi and I’ve been doing portraits for almost two years now but it still amazes me when people from so far away place an order.

Like many unwanted dogs in south Mississippi Hillary was found wandering alone on a busy road.
She got extremely lucky when a rescue friend stepped up to save her.
I ran a small portrait fundraiser for her and we were able to raise a little over $100 to help with her vetting.

May and early June were probably two of the busiest months I’ve ever had with portraits!
I took a small break from commissions to catch my breath but I’m ready to open back up.
My portraits are digital only.
I am currently offering two styles:
Line drawings with a colored background for $18
Or watercolor splash for $35.

Short haired dogs are what I tend to do the most but when Rachel had me do portraits of Sally Sue and Hettie Rae, she pushed me out of my comfort zone.

I love doing memorial portraits because as a dog mom, I understand the pain and grief that comes with losing one and I know how special a portrait of them can be.
When my friend Christina, told me that she and her wife lost their boy, George, I was absolutely devastated for them. George was Sara’s first dog and he died unexpectedly due to an illness.
That heartbreak is just unbearable.
I was honored to do this portrait that portrayed the never ending bond between George and his person.

We’ve all heard it.
“It is all how they are raised”, when referring to pit bull type dogs.
But is it?
As a rescuer who focuses on pitties, I’ve lost count of the number I’ve had come through my home. I’ve also always had large packs of rescue pitties. My first group unfortunately all passed away from old age and/or cancer and we currently have 5 personal pit bull type dogs and 1 foster.
These dogs who have shared our home in the past and present, also lived with a child (who is now 19), cats, small breed dogs and now chickens.
We’ve had gunshot victims, dog fighting survivors, dogs who lived on chains, horrible abuse cases that left emotional and physical scars, dogs with wounds that were so graphic they are forever burned in our memory, even dogs who basically lived a life completely alone.
All raised very very poorly.
When you repeat that phrase “ it is all in how they are raised”, you couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, you are damning all these amazing dogs who just so happened to have a horrific past.
They weren’t raised right but they are individuals and should be treated as such.
They weren’t raised right, but they still deserve a second chance.
They weren’t raised right but they can still be your families’ best friend.
Stop using this phrase, even with good intentions. It only hurts the dogs we love.
