Meet Captain Chuck McDonald, the Patrol Commander at the Thomas County Sheriff's Office. His office responds to Animal Services calls. He says, “It sounds simple, but my job really is to serve and protect—whether that’s protecting someone from a roaming dog that might be aggressive to returning a pet that’s lost its way. I wish everyone could ride along with us and see what we do every day. It would really warm your heart to see the impact it makes when we help a pet find its way home or respond to a call.”

Here, pretty bird!

It’s a bird owner’s worst nightmare to have their melodic companion fly away. Pet birds do not have the skills to find their own food or watch out for predators. While we aren’t able to help locate lost birds, we do have some tips for keeping your feathery friend safe:

🔹Always check that the cage door is locked when you leave the house.
🔹Keep doors and windows closed anytime a bird is out of its cage.
🔹Screen windows and doors as an extra pre-caution.
🔹Practice whistles together so it might echo and help you locate her.
🔹Micro-chip your bird.

When we rescue lost dogs, one of the first things we do is get them proper healthcare, to ensure they are healthy and safe. We have amazing partnerships with local shelters and their veterinarians. They’ll examine the pup for major injuries and check for a microchip, in hopes of reuniting it with its proper family.

This cute little fella can be microchipped after about 8 weeks of age, according to many veterinarians. Microchips are approximately ½ inch long, about the size of a grain of rice, which is perfectly safe for kittens who are a few months old.

Get your kitten microchipped at your local veterinarian’s office or at one of our free microchip clinics (check out our events page for the next one). Remember to log in and keep your info current so we can contact you if we find your lost pet.
