Dog Name: Killeen

Breed: Pyrenees mix

S*x: Male

Age: 10 months

Weight: 60ish

Medical Needs: None

Housebroken: Yes; does best on a schedule

Crate trained: Yes; may fuss in the beginning, but quiets down well and enjoys sprawling out on his back

Good in the car: Yes, though he may boof at things from time to time. Usually after the first boof, he's nonreactive

Good on a leash: He tries to pull, but redirects easily with pressure. The more confident you are, the more relaxed he'll be.

Energy level: Medium; he enjoys fetch, but is also more than happy to flop on the closest dog bed with a bone.

Need a fenced in yard: No, leashed walks will be fine

Dog Friendly: Yes, with proper introductions. Killeen is young, and a bit awkward at first meets. Give him a few minutes, and he figures it out.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, but he'd probably enjoy a friend to romp with.

Cat Friendly? Yes. One of the residents took offense to him trying to say hello; Killeen stood there for the smackdown, and then offered a play-bow in an attempt to make amends for his presumptuousness.

Kid Friendly: Unknown

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Older children (8+) who understand how to let a dog come to them, and give him space if he needs it.

Traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Killeen's motto is goober, goofball, oh heck yeah there goes the ball gotta run gotta run-

Eventually.

When he came to his foster home, there was work to be done to get him to that point, though really, what he needed most was a little bit of time and a good bit of understanding. He lacked confidence, and while he could certainly still use some of that, as well as socialization, once he's comfortable… he thrives.

Killeen LOVES his people, and shows a curiosity for the world that's befitting of a young dog still finding his way. He may react anxiously the first time he sees something new and scary (looking at you, Lowe's animatronics), but once he figures out it means him no harm, it becomes part of the background of life, and Killeen is happy to continue on with his day.

If you're looking for a dog that'll love you like you hung every single star just for him, then give Killeen a chance. He'll pay you back in spades for it.

Dog Name: Rocket

Breed: Maltese mix

S*x: Male

Age: 8

Weight: 20lbs

Medical Needs: Totally blind and partially deaf

Housebroken: Yes. He will come and find you when he needs to go and walk between you and the door to get your attention.

Crate trained: Yes

Good in the car: Yes

Good on a leash: Yes

Energy level: Low

Need a fenced in yard: No

Dog Friendly: Yes, but prefers them on the calm side. Being trampled is no fun for a little guy.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No

Cat Friendly? Unknown

Kid Friendly: Yes. He's enjoyed every kid he has met so far.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with appropriate supervision.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Rocket is a friendly, calm senior who has a lot of love to give. Don't let his age or the fact that he's totally blind fool you. He learned the lay of the land in his foster home in less than 2 days. He does still struggle getting up and down the steps without guidance, but he's happy to be carried anywhere at anytime, or will follow along on a leash just fine. He has no trouble getting on and off the couch though.

He's a quiet guy, usually only barking if he needs to go potty or if another dog startles him. He's not afraid to tell them to back off either, so if you have a reactive dog in the home already, Rocket wouldn't be a good fit.

Dog name: Delly

S*x: Female

Breed: Pyrenees mix

Age: 5 months

Weight: 30ish pounds

Medical Needs: She will need to be spayed. The appt has been requested for the end of August/beginning of September at the Dover BVSPCA.
Date will be shared as soon as we get it.
Keeping this appt is a condition of adoption, and because of it, adopter must live within one hour of Dover and be willing to travel there for her appt.

Housebroken: Still working on it

Crate Trained: Yes

Good in the Car: Getting there

Good on a leash: Yes, she does very well on a leash and even stays close by when let off leash to roam around.

Energy level: She's a puppy, need I say more?

Need a fenced in yard: No, but please remember she will be a large dog, so she will need ways to get her energy out.

Dog Friendly: Yes.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No

Cat Friendly: Yes

Kid Friendly: Loves kids. She has sharp little puppy claws, so will need a kid who will tolerate the occasional jumping of a puppy

Traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them:

Delly is an amazing little puppy who had a rough start in life when she caught a nasty little virus and was hospitalized. Since then, she has gained so much strength back - you'd never know she was once so sick.

This charming girl is all puppy; she loves romping around with the kids, playing with the other dogs in her foster home, and running around outside rolling in the dirt. When kept on a very strict schedule, she does well with her house training, so she will do best with someone who has time to help her with her training. A home where she won't be left alone for more than four hours at a time would be best.

Delly has so much love to give, and is a super laidback, sweet little baby.

Foster location: Felton, DE

If you're interested in Delly, you can find an application at grrde.org/adoption-application. If you already have an approved application on file, email [email protected] and say you're interested in Delly.

Dog Name: Azula

Breed: Pyrenees/Anatolian

S*x: Female

Age: 4 months

Weight: 35 lbs

🚑Medical Needs: Will have 2 rounds of DAPPV when clear to adopt, she will need 2 more rounds. These will be the adopter’s responsibility.

‼️Azula has MANY environmental/food allergies and has to eat specific food‼️

Her allergy profile will be provided to approved applicants to review.

Spay date scheduled for August 30th

Housebroken: Yes

Crate trained: Yes. Loves her crate for nap and bedtime.

Good in the car: Yes. She hops right in. She’s getting used to the passenger seat, but does like to lay on your lap. Her backside in the passenger, and her front side on your legs.

Good on a leash: Yes. Also used to a harness

Energy level: Mellow throughout the day, after seven or 8 o’clock, watch out haha!Lots and lots of energy.

Need a fenced in yard: Yes. She does have a little call the wild in her, but hasn’t taken off. She loves to run and will need the space for that.

Dog Friendly: Absolutely! If anything, her best fit would be a family that has a large dog that needs a friend. She is desperate for a pup-friend to play with.

Cat Friendly? Azula does really well with my cat (“Boy”). The first couple of weeks, Boy didn’t want anything to do with her, but now he has totally warmed up to her and rubs all over her when coming in from outside.

Kid Friendly: Yes, however, she is still a puppy, so of course, be wary of the puppy teeth and claws

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? At least 5+.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

She is an absolute joy. A total baby doll. She loves to play and cuddle. She loves spending time outside, especially when the sun goes down. Most of the time you’ll find her sleeping over the air-conditioning vent😅.

She will take care of any bug you may have in your house. She loves beetles, grasshoppers, butterflies, etc. Funny enough her favorite toy is a thick plastic water bottle or her lick matt😅. She’s a chewer so always have plenty of chew toys around for her.

She has an excellent temperament. When other dogs bark at her, she does not react. She just sits/lays down and watches them, unfazed.

We’re still working on a couple of tricks, but she has learned “Sit”. She doesn’t know she’s a large puppy, so beware of a permanent lap dog haha!

She’s definitely a family dog, and has rarely ever been left alone in the house without someone being home. I work remotely so I’m with her most of the day. She would do best with a family or a couple with the same situation and that has another dog.

Her disposition is just overall really great. She aims to please, loves people and enjoys going for walks. Seriously cannot emphasize enough how sweet of a dog she is. Whoever gets her is very lucky and will have a fantastic companion 🐶🥰

Dog Name: Kelby

Breed: Rottweiler/Pit Mix

S*x: Female

Age: 8 months

Weight: 42lbs

Medical Needs: None

Housebroken: Yes! And she knows the route to outside and will paw at the door to go out.

Crate trained: Yes, she does very well, does expect a little treat when she gets in

Good in the car: Yes, loves being able to look out the window and explore.

Good on a leash: She’s getting there, she still pulls especially when she gets so excited to see friends, we’re working on it.

Energy level: We’re getting out of the puppy stage, but she still loves to play, especially w her foster sister, once she’s inside she wants to snuggle and will chew on her toy at your feet.

Need a fenced in yard: Not if she’s leashed when you’re outside. But she’d prefer space to run free. After all, she was in a shelter from the time she was 1pm to old to 7 months. She loves being outside.

Dog Friendly: YES! She loves other dogs and wants to be engaged w them .

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, she loves them, but also loves her attention from her people.

Cat Friendly? Yes, pretty much ignores the cat altogether.

Kid Friendly: Yes.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Currently the youngest in our home is a 5 year old. She is still a puppy and would need to learn how gentle to be with a younger child.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Kelby is such a loveable, goofy sweetheart! She would make a good guard dog with her big bark, and she alerts us whenever there is a stranger at the door or near the back yard, but in public she doesn’t bark. If you're looking for an older pup who's still ready and eager for adventures, she's your girl for sure! Sometimes she acts like she's auditioning to be the next energizer bunny, but she listens, and she's sweet as pie, and her smile could win anyone over, it's so great 😍

Dog Name: Sunday Riley

Breed: German Shepherd

S*x: Female

Age: 4 years old

Weight: 62 lbs

Medical Needs: Treated for heartworm on 7/8 and 7/9/24. She must receive heartworm preventative every month. Recheck in six months.

Housebroken: Yes

Crate trained: Sunday Riley is very good in her crate.

Good in the car: Yes, she loves car rides!

Good on a leash: She pulls but works well with a prong collar.

Energy level: Medium

Need a fenced in yard: No

Dog Friendly: Sunday Riley genuinely loves other dogs.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No.

Cat Friendly? Sunday Riley, to my knowledge, has not been tested with cats.

Kid Friendly: Not sure.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed? I would not put her with a young child. Older children 12+ would be best.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Sunday Riley is a very sweet, smart, affectionate dog who needs a quiet home. Her new family should have German Shepherd experience because, while she doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body, she does have the shepherd angst and will bark at anything that makes her nervous. As long as she's secure, though, she is the best dog to hang out with. She loves to romp outside, but inside she prefers to nap or chill on the floor at your feet with a toy.

Sunday Riley's favorite sport is counter surfing and some favorite toys include the legs of furniture, paper, and perhaps the couch, so you may want to keep at least one eye on her -- she's basically a 4-year old puppy. She does understand the word no all too well though and is getting to know the rules pretty quick! She immediately loves anyone she meets outside the house. However, people coming into her home should be introduced slowly, as she sees some people as a threat and will bark and maybe nip at them out of fear. Once you're deemed safe though, you are wholeheartedly welcome.

All in all, if German Shepherds are your breed, Sunday Riley would be the greatest addition to your household!

Dog Name: Reverie

Breed: Pit Mix

S*x: Male

Age: 3

Weight: 40lbs.

Medical needs: A heartworm retest to ensure the heartworms he was treated for are gone

Housebroken: Yes.

Crate trained: Yes.

Good in the car: Yes.

Good on a leash: Yes. He will pull a little but is easily corrected.

Energy level: Medium

Need a fenced-in yard: No, but it is always nice.

Dog Friendly: Yes, but he is selective about who he wants to be friends with.

Does your foster need another dog in the home? No, he'll be fine as your sole companion.

Cat Friendly? No

Kid Friendly: Yes.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any age with proper supervision.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Reverie is a sweet boy. If you’re looking for an itty bitty pitty - he’s your guy! He loves getting attention from people and will follow you around all day. I fondly refer to him as the “Supervisor of Daily Operations.” He loves to get pets and snuggle with humans. He also loves to curl up and sleep with his foster sister. He gets really excited to meet new people and will do a helicopter tail wag! Reverie LOVES to play! He can get a little rough in his play with other dogs, but he is easy to correct. He knows the commands sit, paw, kennel, and we’re working on stay. Reverie also loves to play fetch. He’s a well-mannered little gentleman and is eager to please!

13/07/2024

Dog Name: Aries

Breed: 100% Good Boy Mix

S*x: Male

Age: 10 years old

Weight: 50 lbs

Medical Needs: None

Housebroken: Yes

Crate trained: Yes and eats meals in his crate.

Good in the car: Yes, he loves car rides (needs to be seat-belted in the back unless you want a 50lb copilot in your lap)!

Good on a leash: Great on a leash.

Energy level: Low - Medium

Need a fenced in yard: Foster has a fenced yard so the pack can run free and tennis balls stay in the yard. A fence isn't necessary though, so long as he's properly exercised and leash-walked.

Dog Friendly: Aries gets along well with other other dogs that share his same energy level.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No but he does share the house with the foster's two other dogs and they all get along well.

Cat Friendly? No cats in the house and he's shown limited interest in the neighborhood outside cats during walks.

Kid Friendly: Yes

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed? Any with supervision.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?

Do you need a unconditionally loving buddy? Aries wants to be wherever you are. Getting a snack, he'll be there to help you make a good choice. Going to the basement to do the laundry, he'll wait at the top of the steps and then watch you fold towels. Brushing your teeth, he'll make sure you floss!

Do you need someone who is so happy you came home that he squeals with joy when you walk in the door. Whether it's a 5 minute trip back and forth to WAWA, a few hours of errands or a half day at work, you're going to feel loved when you get back home! Side note: The foster works from home and Aries is rarely crated for more than a few hours.

He's vocal . . . he's going to bark at loud noises on a TV show or a car door shutting outside from time to time. He might even fart in his sleep, wake himself up and then bark (hilarious!). He's definitely going to bark when someone is at the door (knocking or coming in).

He has a curious behavior where he randomly barks at people walking around the house (no matter if they are permanent residents or occasional visitors) but quickly quiets down. Example, the foster's 20 y/o son comes downstairs and gets a barky greeting. Aries quickly quiets but might speak up again if the foster's son goes to another room for a short period and then comes back. On the other hand, he might also squeal with joy. That's a work in progress and something the foster associates with Aries past.
Aries loves to nest, so if you have a blanket on the sofa or floor, he's gonna get under it!

He has good door manners and waits patiently for permission to go outside. Aries is 100% a Good Boy and deserves to relax in comfort in his senior years with people who are going to give him continuous love and attention. He would be the greatest addition to your household or pack!
