Have dogs on crate and rotate? What about a new puppy? Enrichment toys can really help out! This is an outward hound toy - the little stuffed squirrel balls all have a treat under them in the ball. It takes Legend quite a long time to get them all out.

Our friend Christina is offering an amazing class and support group all about dogs who can’t get along together in the home. I highly recommend this course!

This is my super popular mentorship program in which I spend 8 weeks with a small group of people struggling with dogs who fight at home. Because this is a custom experience and I get to know each of you and your dogs intimately, space is limited to only 6 people.

Too funny 🤣

Manda here! Our GSD pup Wick is 13 weeks old now. We have worked through the few guarding issues we were having with our older dog Draken. Our main issue now is that Wick is Bitey McBiteface 🤣 We all know puppies love to chew, but this man is next level. We are working hard at redirecting him on to appropriate things to chew. Not human arms or his older brother. He also has a tendency to stand and bark in Draken's face if Drae is choosing to ignore him. We don't want Draken to decide he does not enjoy having a little brother, so we are also using time outs if Wick's impulses are getting the better of him. What are some of the strategies you use to calm puppy behaviors and keep the whole family happy?

Manda here! We are currently in the process of integrating this little cutie into our home. This is Wick our 10 week old male GSD. We also have a 3.5yr old intact male Olde English Bulldogge named Draken . Wick has been in our home for about a week and a half and overall things are going well. The only thing we are seeing some issues with is some resource guarding from Draken. In order to minimize issues we never feed them together but we are seeing it with toys/bones. With Wick being a typical baby GSD he wants to bite all the things all the time so we have lots of chewable toys all over our family room, so we can redirect his bitey on to appropriate things. For the most part Drae has no interest in the items and ignores when Wick is running around the room with whatever item hit his fancy. However, if the item is something Drae has decided he is interested in, then we see problems. Since the issue happens randomly and isn't there all the time, we have not gone to the extreme of picking up all items off the floor if they are in the shared space. Instead we are monitoring Drae for signs of stress when the puppy has something and we will put that item away for awhile or we let Drae go hang out in a different space. If we don't catch him before he tells the puppy off, then we give both of them a time out apart. Then later when everyone has had a chance to calm for a while, we will bring them back together and reward for the sharing the space. Then we will try having the item back out and will reward Drae for ignoring the puppy playing with it.

We’re so excited to have Amanda joining our team at Legion of Dogs!

Amanda initially got in to dog training after her and her husband became actively involved in the sport of Weight pull with their Olde English Bulldogge Riddick. As Riddick became Amanda’s sport dog, they brought a second dog into their family, a Cane Corso named Ripley with hopes of being her husband’s sport prospect. As a puppy Ripley integrated into the family well but over time, they noticed she had a lot of confidence issues and fear reactivity. She also could no longer live normally with their other dog Riddick, resulting in the family living under heavy management including a crate and rotate scenario.

This lead Amanda to delve into learning everything she could about dog behavior, reactivity, managing a multiple dog household all to find ways to best help Ripley. She has attended seminars and done courses on aggression, fear, impulsivity and reactivity. She also attended a class with Ripley using Bat 2.0 training. Amanda continued to further her education as in the spring of 2020 their family lost Riddick and in the summer brought a new Olde English Bulldogge puppy, Draken, into their home. This presented a new set of problems to overcome integrating Ripley with a new puppy.

Amanda has previously done podcasts with Legion of Dogs to discuss her challenges with multidog living and the changes when introducing a new puppy into the home. She also received her Accredited Dog Trainer certification through the IAABC in October of 2022. Amanda is excited to be a partner in Legion of Dogs! She looks forward to using her personal experiences and education to help others navigate the challenges of multidog living. She is now currently living with her husband, their 2 snakes, cat Tony and her current sport dog Draken, and they just added new German Shepherd puppy Wick to their family this past week!
