Have dogs on crate and rotate? What about a new puppy? Enrichment toys can really help out! This is an outward hound toy - the little stuffed squirrel balls all have a treat under them in the ball. It takes Legend quite a long time to get them all out.
I get asked about intact female dogs and heat cycles a lot these. Many vets are recommending spaying later so families are waiting. Here’s a video of Frankie Pickles on Day 2 of a heat. Every dog is a bit different but my girls all seem to act similar.
- loss of appetite
- they seem more playful
- I see a lot of mounting one another (typically both dogs are having fun so I don’t interrupt unless it’s excessive or I see signs of stress in one of the dogs)
- some bleeding but my girls clean each other enough that I don’t use diapers
- my dogs typically reach standing heat around day 10-14 so no risk of pregnancy yet but if I had an intact male I would separate him pretty soon (a bit dog dependent on that timing).

Taking a toy or a treat out of another dog's mouth is not permitted in out home. This helps avoid conflict and fights over resources. Sadie learned with the bigger dogs and is now learning to have good manners even when she could easily overpower the smaller dog ❤️
We have a visitor for a few days 🥰 He gets to meet my dogs in groups, not all at once.
My Halloween protocol… I love handing out candy so we have a way to make it work even with 5 dogs.
Doorbell rings, I scatter feed (in my Care Bear costume of course) and then I can answer the door and hand out candy. Our dogs are blocked by a baby gate and are out of sight from the door.
Navy is medicated as there’s also random fireworks going off. I advise that for dogs with extreme noise phobia like her.

Does calling a dog away from fence running for cookies reinforce the fence running?
Some of you may be aware that I have an adorable 4 month old puppy with me for a week of board & train. She is a delight :) This is our third morning together and we are working on calm! After 20 minutes of this, we are off for a fun romp and race around the acreage :) Remember, you can only ask this of your puppy if their needs are being met.
