We are getting close to the end of our trip. It's been a good trip and all the dogs have done great. Even though I'm only with the dogs for a short time I get attached to them a little bit. I may only be with them for 4 or 5 or 6 days. But I'm with them 24 hours a day and we go on a lot of walks together and we sleep together and we spend a lot of time together during those few days. I may not remember the name of every pet that I transport, but I remember all of them. A few times I've been able to take pets back the opposite direction. And it's always cool when the pets recognize me and are excited to see me. I won't say that I like pets more than people. God died for every person in the world and that puts an infinite value on each one of us. But there are aspects of animals that I do prefer! Hahaha but my job is also about people. I get to meet some very very nice people in my business. And I get to help them get there precious family members home. And that's pretty cool. It's not the perfect job. I'm away from my family a lot. I tried to hire some other people to help me with my business and it just hasn't come together just right yet. It's hard to find that right person who can travel from the United States to Central america, who loves pets and people, who likes to drive, at his crazy enough to drive pets across Central America. I do have a couple of guys in Central America who helped me out. They're both great guys and they've been a tremendous help. I think I'm going a little bit long here. And maybe rambling a little bit. But at the same time you don't have to continue reading! Hahaha Alright. God Bless. Matt

If you're new to my page and Instagram page this is Hong the German shepherd, Grizz the Australian shepherd, and Bebe, who is listed as an Australian Shepherd also... I'm pretty sure he's not purebred. Haha. We are beginning to get near the end of our journey. It's been a great trip in the dogs have all been wonderful. I'm excited to be able to reunite these boys with their parents.

If you or anyone you know needs help getting their pets from the United States to Central America or from Central America back to the United States you can contact me using the WhatsApp button below. God bless.

This is the Angry Beast Hong! He was nervous when I first picked him up And the family thought it was best if he was in a muzzle. I don't like muzzles but I also realize that sometimes it's the prudent thing to do. Well after a few hours and a couple of walks and some belly rubbing Him and I have become good friends. Most dogs that bite are just nervous or uncomfortable with their situation. They just need reassurance and they need to know that everything's going to be okay. Once you can get them to understand that you care for them and you just want to be their friend They don't want to bite you anymore. Hong is a good boy. We're still in Mexico so I'm allowed to have the dogs out of kennels. I like to rotate them a little bit so that they aren't stuck in the kennel the whole time. Once we get to the U.S They must be in kennels. I'm a USDA certified pet transporter and that's one of the USDA guidelines. There are a lot of pet transporters In the U.S who offers Services where your dogs don't have to be in Kennels. And that's fine and it's a nice service. But if you are USDA certified you can't do that. I have inspections of my facilities and my vehicles periodically with the USDA. They have quite a few regulations But they've been very good to work with. I have found that in the end Their biggest concern is the welfare of the animals.

Here's maybe a more level-headed post. I was a little bit upset in the last post.

It's true that there have been two trips where dogs died in my care. On the first trip it was a 14-year-old and a 16 year old chihuahua. I just could not get them to eat or drink on the trip. I did everything I could. And on the next trip it was a large 11 and a half year old dog. And I have no idea why he died. He was not eating a lot but it had only been a day and a half. He was drinking and otherwise he was just sitting between us on the floor. I have addressed this in Greater detail on my page.

I think the reason that I got upset in my last message is because I take things too personally. Everyday I get text messages of people telling me that I'm a waste of skin, that they wish I would die, they wish my family would die, that I'm going straight to hell, and someone told me today that if he ever saw me I would no longer exist in the world.

These people don't even know me. And yet they say such horrible things. I know that our pets passing can be very sad. I've had pets my whole life and every time I lose one it is hard. And it never really gets easier. But just like with family members we slowly move on with our lives.

I run a Ministry that supports women who used to be prostitutes. I help get them off the streets and help move them into safe neighborhoods. I pay for their expenses so they don't have to work like that anymore. I send them to school and I help them start small businesses so that they can support themselves and their families in an honest manner. 75% of the money that I get from Pet transportation goes to support this ministry. The last few weeks I've been reducing the lady's support every week. I'm sending everything I have but My recent trips have been smaller. The ladies are making do as best they can. But four of them had to drop out of school because they can't afford bus fare and food. Bus fair is not cheap in their City. There are other stories but that's not what this is about. We will all make do, we will all survive, and we will all move on.

I don't care if these people hurt me. I don't like what people say but I get over things quickly. I'm pretty thick skinned. I do care that these people are hurting ladies who are fighting to get out of a horrible life. The country that these ladies are from does not have options. These ladies did not get into that life because it was easy or good money. They got into that life so that they could put food on their table for their kids.

So I'm sorry I lost my Temper in my last post. But please be careful what you say in life. Sometimes your harsh words have repercussions that you don't even know. Sometimes your words can do damage that is very difficult to ever repair.

I will continue to provide my service. Number one because I love what I do. I have many skills and talents and can do a lot of different things to earn income. But I love what I'm doing and I'm providing a valuable service. And number two, because I have to. The ladies of my Ministry are fighting for themselves and their families. They don't want to go back to that old life. So they will continue fighting. And I will continue doing everything I can to give them the tools that they need in life.

Thanks,
Matt

THE TRUTH. There is a group of people headed by Russ Reynolds from Belize who are spreading a tremendous amount of false information about me and Best Friends Pet Transportation. In the last 4 years we have transported over 400 pets safely between the United States and Central America.
It is true that Mr. Reynolds’ dog died while on one of our trips. We had his dog for about 36 hours before he died. He was well taken care of the whole time but was an older dog and unfortunately did not handle the stress well. I have posted about this on my page with full details.
Mr. Reynolds is lying about us crossing dogs illegally. That would be foolish and irresponsible. I would never jeopardize myself or my business by doing something illegal. It would not be safe. But Mr. Reynolds and his friends make a lot of false statements. Many of the text messages they have posted are not real, if you want the truth please go to my page where I have been very transparent about my process and the loss of Mr. Reynolds’ dog. You will also find real testimonials of many of my customers. They can vouch for the quality of my service.
Transporting your pets between Central America and the United States is not an easy job. We have transported over 400 pets back and forth safely. It is true that three have died. Two were from the same family. They were a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old Chihuahua. The other was an eleven and a half year old large breed dog. I have talked to several veterinarians that believe it is likely that this dog had a heart attack because of stress.
I would like to also address the communication issue that has been mentioned. At the end of July we did a very large trip as a favor because border laws were changing. Since we follow border laws, we explained to people that because the changes were somewhat unclear the best way to ensure you would be able to bring your dog to the States before the end of August was to bring them up before the beginning of August. (Laws about rabies vaccinations have changed somewhat) As a result there were about 15 people that requested our services. We had a large vehicle and three people driving the vehicle. Unfortunately because our focus was on getting the dogs safely to the United States in the remaining time, communication did lack some on that trip. Generally we take about five dogs each direction, which means that communication is not an issue. Again please feel free to look at my Facebook and Instagram pages for evidence as to how my communication is.
Even though there has been a lot of incorrect information going around, Best Friends Pet Transportation will continue to offer excellent service to people relocating to Central America or moving back home. Though there have people who have acted spitefully, but we do forgive them understanding how hard it is to loose a beloved pet. Our name, photos and other things are not changing because we are proud of the services we provide in keep families together. We will continue taking monthly trips. Those who are interested or have questions are welcome to contact us and we will do our best to truthfully answer their questions and concerns.
Lastly we do want to caution you about who you send your pets with. There are a few other people who transport dogs between these locations and as it becomes more widely needed there will be more. Many of these people have little to no experience which can be dangerous on such a long trip. We know what we are doing and we are very careful, we also love our pets and those who we work with.

We are happy to speak with anyone about any of the above situations. Our phone number is listed below.

To address the communication issue that many people have mentioned. We did a favor for many individuals near the end of july. Again look at my page and my Instagram page and you will see how excellent my communication is.

We will continue to offer excellent service to people in central america. Despite these spiteful people's efforts we will not close our business. I will not change my name and I will not change my photograph. I continue to take dogs every month for individuals who are willing to do their research. We have some of the happiest customers you're ever going to find. Don't let a few bad eggs spoil your opportunity. And please do not send your pets with someone who does not have experience. Driving across Mexico and Central America is not easy. There are individuals who do one or two a year. I do 100 per year. Do your research and make an informed decision.

And I am happy to speak with anybody at any time about any of these situations. My phone number is listed below.

Here we are with Griz in guatemala. It's a beautiful day and Guatemala really is a beautiful country. It's warm out but not too hot. Chris just needed to take a break and stretch his legs a little bit. He's a good boy and very easy going. Lots of energy so he goes on a little bit longer walks. But that's the way most Aussies are. We're on our way towards Belize right now. If you are anybody you know needs to have your pet transported feel free to reach out to me. We make trips every month from the United States to Central America and from the Central America to the United States.

Is there anything better than rolling in the grass on a nice summer day? I think not! We already dropped cow off and Augie's next. Auggie was a little bit nervous when I first picked him up. And he absolutely did not want to get into a kennel. On this last walk that we were taking there was an old man walking down the road beside us. Augie went right up to him to get pet and say hello. And as soon as we're done with the walk I take him to the back of the van and open the door and he jumps right up into his kennel. He's had a really good trip and I know he's excited to be home. And I know his parents are excited to have him home soon also. He will be home in Tegucigalpa by this evening.

If you need help getting your pet from the United States to Central America or from Central America back to the United States you can contact me using the WhatsApp button below the photos.

Good morning! We are in northern Mexico in a little town called Ocampo. There's some public showers that you can rent for a couple of dollars so I like to stop there and get a shower and then there's also a decent place to walk the dogs. So all four dogs got a nice long walk and then they got breakfast and are now settled back into the kennels ready for the next little stretch.

The first stop in the morning and the last stop at the end of the day are always a little bit longer. I like to get the dogs a nice long walk in the morning. At least 15 minutes. Then I usually straighten their kennels up a little bit and clean them out if needed. Can I get the dogs little back in their kennels and get them their breakfast. It takes a little bit of time because each dog has their own food in their own bag. And each one eats a little bit differently. Usually I take about an hour to an hour and a half in the morning and an hour to an hour and a half in the evening. In the middle of the day our stops are a bit shorter because we're just stopping for the dogs to go to the bathroom and stretch their legs a little bit.

This little cutie patootie is cow. He is an Akita that's heading to honduras. He is super cute and he's super spoiled! Hahaha. I took three Akitas down for his parents a couple of years ago. Two girls and a boy. The oldest female dog weighed 165 lb! She was scary looking but she was very sweet. The other female was a good bit smaller but still a very big dog. Almost 100 lb. And the mail Tito was intimidating! Haha. He pretty much wanted to eat me from the time I met him but by the time we got down to Honduras we were good friends. This little guy is super sweet and is going to be a very handsome dog. Akitas are beautiful dogs.

Day 2. I spent the night in Northeast Virginia and got up early to continue driving back to tennessee. Both dogs had a good night's sleep. Both of them were a bit nervous when I picked them up but they are much more comfortable now. We're just driving to Tennessee today and will staying at the campground for tonight and tomorrow night. We will head out on Sunday for texas. I have one more pet to pick up in Nashville today.

The truck has nothing to do with pet transportation. It was sitting outside of a hair salon. But come on... it's pretty sweet!

Make sure you subscribe to my page to get daily updates. Once we head into Mexico I'll probably be posting more than once per day.

What do you do when the unimaginable happens? I certailny didn’t know, but now I am writing this post to explain a very sad situation that occured.

I have been transporting pets for 4 years and have transported over 300 pets safely between Central America and the United States, but tragically, over a month period, I had 3 dogs die. This is a tragedy that I am beside myself over. I have always cared for each and every pet as if they were my own. I have not posted on this before today out of respect for the owners who lost their friends, but I feel it is important to address it now.

In July, I picked up 4 small chihuahuas in Belize city. They were from the same family. They were 3 daughters and a mother dog. The daughters were 14 years old and the mother, 16. The dogs were very thin, but seemed ok for dogs of that age. Once on the trip, I could not get any of the dogs to eat or drink enough. I had food and water available in their kennels at all times, the van was cool and kennels clean, but they were just not interested in anything. Once I arrived in the US, I took them to a veterinarian. The vet thought they should be admitted to the hospital so they could receive IV fluids and IV nutrition. I was in constant communication with the owner, but she just wanted me to continue to Tennessee and not admit them. On the rest of the trip, I would stop every hour to try to feed and give them water by syringe. Unfortunately, two of them passed away before I arrived in Tennessee. I feel that these dogs were just too old and were very attached to their owner. Once separated from her they would not eat or drink and they could not handle the stress of the trip. The owner was very gracious and urged me to continue transporting older pets.

On the very next trip, we picked up a dog named Buddy. He was a larger dog and was 11 1/2 years old. He had arthritis pretty bad and had to be helped in and out of the bus, but seemed healthy otherwise. The owner asked if we could not put him in a kennel, because he would become stiff from the arthritis, so we had Buddy sitting at our feet. We picked him up early one morning. He did fine that day. He ate a little, but that is common as dogs often need to settle in. We stop every three hours to walk the dogs and we would help him in and out of the van. The next morning he was also fine just needing help in and out of the bus, but getting around fine once he was out. At About 1:00 PM, he was sitting at our feet on his large sheepskin pad. He got up and walked to the back of the bus and laid down. Two hours later, at our stop just before the Mexican border we went to wake him up, he had passed in his sleep. He had only been with us about 36 hours.

We have been devistated by these losses. In both cases we are not sure what we could have done better. We have 3 airconditioners in the bus and are able to keep the temperature at 68 to 70 degrees at all times. We have water available for every dog at all times. We give the dogs extra water every time we stop. We stop to walk the dogs every 3 hours.

We endeavor to make this trip as easy on our passengers as possible. We try to alleviate their stress from being separated from their owners in any way we can. This tragedy has saddened us and we have dediced that we will not take older dogs on our trips.

We have had many of our customers reach out to us and we appreciate the support and love that has been shown. Thank you to all of our customers that have trusted us in the past and are trusting us with your precious cargo in the future.

God bless.

I just dropped off two more pets from our latest trip. Willow and skittles. Their parents were moving back to the United States and needed to have them stay with me until they were settled into their house. It was great being able to spend a little more time with them. They're both great dogs.

I still have one more dog at my house. Ruby. Her parents are still finalizing on their house in colorado. I think she'll be traveling home sometime in the next week.

I've been home for a couple of weeks and my next trip starts on sunday. These trips are long and it's been nice to get rested up over these past two and a half weeks. But I'm also excited to meet my new passengers and begin a new adventure with them.

I'm going to be chronicling in Greater detail this trip. I want to give all of you a better idea of what it's like to travel across Central America by car with pets. It's quite an adventure!
