Ninja The Amputee Tortoise

Ninja the amputee desert tortoise awoke burmation with a nasty URI (upper respiratory infection). He got examined today and was given an antibiotic shot, nasal antibiotics, and oral antibiotics. He’s in a hospital tub to stay nice and warm as reptiles have to be warm to digest their medication. Thank you all for the donations and love and prayers!

I know i haven’t been posting because, well, i don’t have much to post while ninja is in hibernation! I’m just so happy he gets to this year. Last year was rough.

Just wanted to let you all know Ninja is down for the winter enjoying his first hibernation since the accident! I miss him but am so glad he gets to hibernate this year and follow his body’s natural instinct.

Happiest of birthdays to Ninja!!! This is a huge milestone. Sweet 16 and 1 year with us here at 661PetRescue. With the damage to his arm we weren’t even sure he’d make it. He’s 1000% healed and even gets to hibernate this year! GO NINJA! Happy sweet 16! 🥹❣️🙏🏻

We entered an online show!

803 suffered the wrath of 2 loose pits that broke through his old owners fence and ate his foot off. It took about 6 months to fully heal and we lost more tissue in the process. He’s now fully healed and back to living the life outside!

It’s summertime!! And i get to live this one outside!! My stump is fully healed and i get around like nobody’s business. Sorry for our lack of posts, Moms been so busy with 661PetRescue Shes been lacking on my page. If you don’t know my story 2 pit bulls broke through my old owners fence and ate my foot off. It was about a loooonngg recovery. I’m doing great now and love wandering my new home.

Ninjas journey wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t cheap, but man is he on the go now! He’s so healthy and happy thanks to all your guys prayers and donations. Ninja is living a normal life now after being mauled by 2 pits that busted through the fence at his old home.

Loving outside life. And my stump is getting a hard callous (that’s a good thing!)) Just like doc said it would. The thicker the callous the less i feel on my bone and tissue. I feel like I’m at the end of a rainbow rn! Mom wasn’t sure what would happen with me, and I’m her success story. Us Torts are pretty dang strong!

Big news! I’m officially back in the outdoors! And man does it feel good. I’ve lived in yard majority of my life, this past winter is when i got attacked. I stayed in a tortoise table to heal all winter. When my stump scabbed over i got to go around the house. But now I’m outside !!!! WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!

I got to meet the Easter bunny!! Luckily he wasn’t scary like some I’ve seen😟 everyone there worked with us to get the pic to include my nub for you guys to recognize me, and Mr. Easter Bunny listened on how to handle my sister Pinecone the Sulcata Tortoise and i correctly. Very gentle. Happy we have these memories together❣️ ~ Ninja

Please family, keep us away from your dogs!!!!! For my sake!

PSA: Dogs will kill tortoises.

In the springtime, between our 3 hospitals we see anywhere from 3-6 tortoises chewed on by by dogs PER DAY. Many of these tortoises do not survive. It is heartbreaking & avoidable. Please do not allow your dogs and turtles/tortoises to share the same space unsupervised.

Common comments we hear:

"We thought he was in hibernation and didn't know he was awake until the dog had him."

"My dog & my tortoise have lived happily together for 10 years so I never expected this to happen."

Please do not let this happen to you or your tortoise.

Very important reminder Friends!

PSA: Dogs kill tortoises....even dogs who have been "friends" with the tortoise for years.

Every single day in spring, we treat multiple tortoises with serious dog bite wounds. Many of them cannot be saved. A tortoise's shell has bone underneath the keratin layer and a dog biting through it causes severe pain for a tortoise.

Please do not allows tortoises and dogs together unsupervised.

Thank you so much to our new followers and people who have liked our page! For those of you who do not know my story, here it is. I was in a loving home when two pit bulls broke through my old owners fence, and ate my foot clean off. It’s been a long road to recovery. I got stitched up but then the tissue died due to the saliva in the pits mouth. I lost another half of my limb. Now i have a healthy stump and get around great. I do have some pyramiding from improper diet but I’m getting everything i need now. I should be able to go back outside this spring/summer !!

Mom gave me my first soak since the dead tissue came off, and man did it feel good! Also, did i tell you i am out of my tortoise table and freeroaming?? There’s a 98% chance I’ll be able to go outside by spring/early summer. I’m so excited friends. It’s been a long time since i got to live my life outdoors. I miss the earth under my feet , i miss the real sun, i miss the space. Pray family! I may get my life fully back soon! And also I’m developing a nice callus on my stump to protect my bones and muscles. Just like doc said! Mamas so proud of me she could cry 😢 🤩

Yes , that’s right… IM OFF ANY AND ALL ! My is . All . I have a small red spot on the base, but that’s where my is and some over that. I should be able to live my in the by the time comes!!! I can’t wait!! One thing mamas worried about is that my shell scraps when i walk because of the . We’re going to talk to my amazing about if this should be a problem or not. With March upon us it is very common for tortoises to become more active and have encounters with dogs. Unfortunately, we see tortoises with fatal injuries caused by dogs every single day during spring. Please do not let this happen to your tortoise. Tortoises and dogs should never be left alone together.

I’m struggling so hard right now. Animals are the only thing making me smile. But I’m not even able to take care of them I’m so sick. Thank God my mom Anita Heard has learned so much from me and has been taking phenomenal care of all of them, even the special needs. I’m so proud of her and so thankful she’s my mama. Pine and Ninja,i adore the crap outta you two. This was on a sunny day and they got to graze and get some sun! Before my procedure and breaking my toe. Thank you all for being patient with me throughout this difficult time, i promise I’ll be posting more updates soon.
