Club de l'Epagneul Breton of the United States The CEB-US is the national breed club of the Epagneul Breton. Three months later, the organization was incorporated and the work began.

The Club de l'Epagneul Breton was formed by a small group of fanciers of the original "French Brittany Spaniel," who wanted to establish an organization in the United States to preserve the characteristics of the original breed and distinguish it from the American Brittany. At a meeting held in a barn in Missouri on August 30, 1997, the group elected officers and wrote a mission statement outlining their goals.

The Joyce Smith Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually by a selection committee to qualified high school senior applicants who have demonstrated substantial interest in, dedication to, and involvement with the Epagneul Breton and who have participated in associated breed club activities.

This memorial scholarship was established by W. Edward Smith of Indiana in memory of his late wife, Joyce Smith. The scholarship fund honors Mrs. Smith’s generosity, leadership and many contributions, and is an integral part of the foundation’s educational and charitable mission. The scholarship receives charitable donations from generous individuals who designate gifts to the foundation for support of the scholarship fund.

Deadline to apply is Feb 15th in the year in which the student will graduate.

Day 3 of the National Conclave Comes to a Close

Today, the spotlight was on conformation, where we celebrated the essence of the Epagneul Breton through evaluations and the highly anticipated specialty show. These moments are vital in preserving and promoting the breed standard, ensuring that form and function continue to work hand in hand.

Tomorrow, we return to the field, where the bird dog heritage that truly defines the breed will be on full display.

The evening wrapped up with our always-lively auction, filled with friendly banter and plenty of laughs, alongside a delicious fish fry generously prepared by our host club. A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers, donors, and attendees who made the night—and the entire day—so memorable. 🫶

On to the final day of the Conclave! Let’s finish strong and keep celebrating this amazing breed together! 👏

One of the most unique and cherished aspects of the National Conclave is our tradition of inviting a distinguished foreign judge to oversee our field trial and specialty show. These judges bring with them a wealth of knowledge about the Epagneul Breton and its breed standards as outlined in Europe. This connection to the breed’s origins ensures our EBs stay true to their heritage and continue to honor the traditions established over 100 years ago.

By welcoming judges from abroad, we guard against the drift toward Americanized trends, preserving the authentic characteristics that make the Epagneul Breton so exceptional.

This year, we are deeply honored to have Elena Melnikova presiding over our event. Her expertise, insight, and dedication to the breed bring an invaluable perspective to this year’s Conclave. It is a privilege to host someone of her caliber and to share in her wisdom as we celebrate and evaluate our beloved breed.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Elena for joining us and helping to ensure the Epagneul Breton continues to thrive for generations to come!

Day 2 of the Conclave is in the books!

Today, the action shifted to the beautiful fields around Lumpkin, where we witnessed lots of bird contacts and some truly brilliant dog work. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible landowners who generously opened their gates, allowing us the privilege of running dogs on their grounds. Your support makes this event possible!

The day wrapped up with the Annual Membership Meeting, bringing together members to celebrate our shared passion for the Epagneul Breton.

Tomorrow, the excitement continues as we trade the field for the show ring, where a new National Best of Breed will be crowned. Best of luck to all participants—we can’t wait to see these amazing dogs shine!
