One of my worst nightmares that came to life (as a new mom) was the time I woke up to find Braeden at about age 10 months, playing in his crib, diaper off and p**p smeared literally in every crack and crevice, on the walls, rails of the crib, all over his face, and YES on his pacifier. (There is no way it wasn’t on the inside of that one). I remember turning around and walking back into the bedroom near tears and half in shock and waking Kris up with “it’s my WORST NIGHTMARE!!!” I’m sure that the look on my face was one of “how in the heck did this happen, why is this happening to me, and are you sure I can cut it as a mom?!” Kris rolled out of bed, calmed me down and greeted the smiling, p**py baby with a laugh. He plucked him out of the crib and put him promptly into the tub and started to fill it.

This morning I woke up to check on Luna and the pups - and found Luna in the same state. She just looked at me with wild eyes, pacing around in the pen stepping in and out around pups taking a frantic lick here and there, whispering. I immediately thought a pup had died! But the moment I glanced in the whelping “pool” I realized she just lived my worst nightmare times EIGHT. Nearly every pup had p**ped after they nursed, and then rolled in it, and tracked it around, laid in it - half were already napping in their smush! Since they all decided to free themselves at the same time that poor mama couldn’t clean them up fast enough! It was the “what if I’m not cut out for this?!” “I can’t even keep my kids clean!” “It’s my worst nightmare!!”
I soothed her and led her outside to potty then quickly changed all the bedding and let her back in. It’s amazing how one simple “here, let me help!” Changed everything. When she got back inside, the bedding was clean and she could go about trying to lick all the butts in the room getting them back to her cleanliness standard.

Moral of the story?
Sometimes new mamas (and returning mamas) just need an extra set of hands. Even if it’s something you feel is so simple - it just might take the edge off the overwhelming nature of all that P**P. Call a mama, offer to help with something specific. An open ended “let me know what you need” is 99.99% of the time never going to manifest. But a specific offer is much more likely.
2nd moral? I have open reservations for this litter still, and I promise they will be clean for you! 🤣

❓👩‍🏫 Did you know that puppies are born blind and deaf? 👩‍🏫❓

Their entire life for approximately the first two weeks, is experienced fully by touch and smell. Our little pups are now 6 days old and their little noses precede every move they make, constantly snuffling and grunting their way around the bedding. They want every hair on their body to be touching someone else, as much of the time as possible. They each seek out their brothers and sisters, nosing their way underneath a leg, or crawling and sprawling over someone's back, or curling up together in a tight ball. What a simple life that must be at this point for them! 💗
